14 Installation Explanation of name changes The procedres in this gide are applicable when installing or pgrading either Watch4net or EMC prodct sites based on EMC M&R version 6.4.x software artifacts. EMC M&R may be sed instead of EMC Watch4net in EMC prodct sites that se version 6.4.x as their nderlying monitoring and reporting platform. The procedres in this gide are applicable for installations and pgrades of version 6.4 software or higher. Install setp file names may vary depending pon which prodcts are licensed. For example, Options for standard installation Watch4net download filenames may have this syntax: setp-linx-x86_641- v64.sh or setp-win641-v64.exe Prodct site download filenames may have this syntax: EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Linx_64-bit_Setp_File.sh or EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Linx_64-bit_Setp_File.exe. Yo have several options when yo perform a binary installation of the EMC M&R platform. The EMC M&R platform infrastrctre consists of three types of hosts: Note Frontend host Backend host (Primary and Additional) Collector host Yo can have only one Primary Backend host. Yo can add Additional Backend hosts to scale ot a deployment. The EMC M&R platform binary installation package spports the following installation options. Defalt (UNIX) or Recommended Modles (Windows) installation To install all of the modles in the EMC M&R platform binary installation package, se this option. Yo can se this option on a single host and enable it to serve as a Frontend, Backend, and Collector host. Yo can cstomize this host frther by manally adding or removing specific modles. Host-specific installations To install software only on a specific host (Frontend, Backend or Collector host), se the same EMC M&R platform binary installation package and select the type of host to install. Minimal (UNIX) or Base Installation (Windows) To install the minimm modles reqired for any host type, se this option. 15 Installation Installing EMC M&R platform on UNIX Yo can install the EMC M&R platform on spported UNIX hosts. This procedre specifically ses the Linx installation procedre as an example. Before yo begin When yo install EMC M&R platform on a UNIX server, assign exectable permissions to the installation script. Ensre that yo have a login with root privileges to rn the installer. Download the installation package to a directory on the server, sch as /temp. Procedre 1. Locate the installation package. 2. Navigate to where the EMC M&R platform is located. 3. Change the permissions of the installer. For example, for the Linx 64-bit exectable, type: chmod +x EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Linx_64-bit_Setp_File.sh 4. Rn the installer from the directory. Example:./EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Linx_64-bit_Setp_File.sh 5. Read and accept the End User License Agreement. 6. Accept the defalt installation directory of /opt/apg or type another location. 7. Accept the defalt ser accont name of apg or type another name. 8. Accept the defalt location of service scripts of /etc/init.d or type another location. 9. Accept the defalt base directory of/etc for rnlevel scripts or type another base directory. 10.Depending on the host prpose, select one of the following options: Option Defalt Frontend Backend Collector Minimal Description Installs recommended modles available in the binary installation package. Yo can se this option on a single host, which enables it to serve as a Frontend, Backend and Collector host. To cstomize this host frther, manally add or remove specific modles. Installs web services and front end applications. Installs the database and backend services. Installs base modles to perform data collection and enrichment. 16 Installation Installing EMC M&R platform on Windows Server Yo can install the EMC M&R platform on spported Windows Server hosts. Before yo begin Ensre that yo have a login with system administrator privileges to rn the installer. Download the installation package to a folder on the server, sch as \temp. Procedre 1. Locate the installation package. 2. Doble-click the setp file, for example: EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Windows_64- bit_setp_file.exe 3. Click Next on the Welcome screen. 4. Read and accept the End User License Agreement. Click I Agree. 5. Select the Destination Folder: a. Change the drive to a Windows non-root drive. b. Maintain the defalt folder strctre (Program Files\APG). c. Click Next. 6. Depending on the host prpose, select one of the following options: Option Recommended Modles Frontend Modles Backend Modles Collector Modles Base Installation Description Installs all recommended modles available in the binary installation package. Yo can se this option on a single host, which enables it to serve as a Frontend, Backend and Collector host. To cstomize this host frther, manally add or remove specific modles. Installs web services and front end applications. Installs the database and backend services. Installs base modles to perform data collection and enrichment. Installs the minimal modles reqired for any host type. To cstomize this host frther, manally add specific modles. 7. Click Install. 8. When the installation is complete, click Next. 9. 18 Configration Starting the EMC M&R platform services from the command line After yo install EMC M&R platform, start reqired services. Before yo begin Before yo start EMC M&R platform services, ensre the library search path is correct on the server that hosts EMC M&R platform. This reqirement applies to the libaio package on Linx. Ensre that yo have a login with root, APG, or system administrator privileges. The ser apg is the accont that the EMC M&R platform application ses instead of root. Procedre Type the command for yor operating system from the bin directory of the installation: Operating system UNIX Windows Command./manage-modles.sh service start all manage-modles.cmd service start all Reslts The platform displays a list of services. Right-click each service and click Start, in this order: APG Topology Mapping Service APG Topology Service APG Webservice Gateway APG MySQL APG Alerting Backend APG Backend APG Collector Manager (Generic RSC) APG Collector Manager (Generic-SNMP) APG Collector Manager (Load-Balancer) APG Event Processing Manager (Alert-Consolidation) APG Tomcat APG Task Schedler Verifying if the EMC M&R platform services are rnning Verify the EMC M&R platform services are rnning on each host by obtaining the stats. Before yo begin Ensre that yo have a login with root, APG, or system administrator privileges. The ser apg is the accont that the EMC M&R platform application ses instead of root. Procedre 1. Type the command for yor operating system from the bin directory of the EMC M&R platform installation: Operating system UNIX Windows Command./manage-modles.sh service stats all manage-modles.cmd service stats all 2. The list of available log files will vary depending pon choices made dring installation. (Collector, Backend, Frontend, Defalt, or Minimal installations will generate different sets of log files.) Before yo begin Make sre yo have a login with root privileges. The EMC M&R platform installed on a server rnning Red Hat Enterprise Linx 6, CentOS Linx 6, or SUSE Linx Enterprise Server (SLES) 11. 21 Configration Procedre 1. Open the /etc/secrity/limits.conf file. 2. Add the following lines for the ser. In this example, the ser is apg. apg hard nofile apg soft nofile apg hard nproc apg soft nproc Save the file. 4. Type the following commands from the bin directory of the installation to restart the services:./manage-modles.sh service stop all./manage-modles.sh service start all 5. Type the following command to verify the changes: s apg -c 'limit -n -' Logging in to the User Interface Log in to view reports or test ser access. Procedre 1. Open a browser, and then type the URL. Example: 2. Log in. a. Type the login credentials. The defalt sername is admin. The defalt password is changeme. b. Click Sign In. After yo finish Yo are atomatically logged off after for hors. Connecting to Centralized Management Connect to the server so that yo can access Centralized Management to install and administer SoltionPacks. Centralized Management is one of the mltiple web applications available in EMC M&R platform. Procedre 1. Open a browser. 2. Type The serverip is the flly qalified hostname or IP address of the server where EMC M&R platform rns. The port is the port nmber of the server. Example: Logging in to the User Interface 21

22 Configration 3. Log in. a. Defalt sername is admin. b. Defalt password is changeme. c. Click Sign In. After yo finish Yo are atomatically logged off after for hors. Confirm configration settings and register remote servers Confirm configration settings for the Frontend server after yo first log in. In a mlti-host environment, yo mst also register remote servers with the Frontend server and confirm those configration settings too. Before yo begin After yo first log in with administrator credentials for core software, yo mst confirm the configration settings for the Frontend server. If yo install additional servers after installing the Frontend server (for example, collectors, backend server, and so forth), yo mst register each of them on the Frontend server. Procedre License management 1. In the Servers Configration window, click Save to accept the predefined vales for the Frontend server. Fields that are blank mst remain blank. 2. To register additional servers, log into Centralized Management and click Configration > Register a Server. 3. Complete the fields and click Save. For detailed information abot the entries, click Docmentation and view the Centralized Management Gide or check the online help available from the User Interface. In a new installation, yo may evalate featres in SoltionPack Center sing the 30-day trial licenses inclded with the software. The EMC M&R trial license applies only to new installations and is not available for pgraded installations. The trial licenses works for the first 30 days. If yo pgrade EMC M&R software and want to try a new SoltionPack, yo mst reqest a license for that SoltionPack from the EMC spport website. To install licenses, se the manage-licenses.sh command. If yo have an existing permanent license or a temporary license that reqires pdating, se the license pload featre in Centralized Management. Both permanent and temporary licenses are distribted in.zip files. Permanent licenses do not have expiration dates and may be associated with a host ID. Temporary licenses do have expiration dates and are not associated with a host ID. When temporary licenses expire, the modle license checks fail and the modles stop working. For example, the collector modles stop collecting new information and, if the frontend modle fails, yo cannot access the User Interface. 22 EMC M&R (Watch4net) 6.4 Installation and Configration Gide

23 Configration Obtaining a permanent license Obtain a permanent license by creating a Service Reqest (SR). Before yo begin Make sre yo have a login with root, APG, or system administrator privileges to perform this task. The ser apg is the accont that the application ses instead of root. Procedre 1. Type the command for yor operating system to obtain the host ID: Operating system UNIX Windows Command /opt/apg/bin/manage-licenses.sh host-id C:\Program Files\APG\bin\manage-licenses.cmd host-id Obtaining a temporary license 2. Copy the host ID information to a clipboard or to a text file. 3. For prodct licenses, go to EMC Online Spport, spport.emc.com. 4. Browse to Service Center > Prodct Registration & Licenses. 5. Paste the host ID information into the Service Reqest. Obtain a temporary license by creating a Service Reqest (SR). Procedre 1. For prodct licenses, go to EMC Online Spport, spport.emc.com. 2. Browse to Service Center > Prodct Registration & Licenses. 3. Create the Service Reqest. Installing licenses Before the 30-day trial licenses expire, contact EMC Online Spport to obtain and install new license files. Before yo begin Obtain the reqired license file by creating a Service Reqest on EMC Online Spport. Make sre yo have a login with root, APG, or system administrator privileges to perform this task. The ser apg is the accont that the EMC M&R application ses instead of root. Procedre Type the command for yor operating system from the bin directory: Operating system Command UNIX./manage-licenses.sh install <download_path>/ <license.zip> Windows manage-licenses.cmd install <download_path>\<license.zip> Obtaining a permanent license 23

24 Configration Linx example:./manage-licenses.sh install /opt/apg/licenses/license.zip A.zip file can contain any nmber of license files. Adding licenses Yo mst pload a license file whenever yo install a new SoltionPack or ReportPack. The license enables views and reports to display. Before yo begin Obtain the reqired license file by creating a Service Reqest on EMC Online Spport. Procedre 1. Log in to the host with administrator credentials. For example, 2. Click Administration. Deleting licenses from EMC M&R platform 3. In the Centralized Management pane, select Licenses. 4. In the Physical Overview tree, select Licenses Management. 5. In the Licenses Listing pane, click Upload. 6. In the License Upload dialog box, browse to yor license file. Click OK. Licenses in a.zip file are extracted and appear in the Licenses Listing pane. 7. When License Upload Complete appears, click OK, then click Contine. 8. If yo have remote servers in a distribted environment, click Synchronize to add the licenses to the remote servers. Yo can select and delete specific licenses or delete all existing licenses from the EMC M&R platform server. Procedre 1. Log in to with administrator credentials. For example, 2. Click Administration. 3. In the Centralized Management pane, select Licenses. 4. In the Physical Overview tree, select Licenses Management. 5. In the Licenses Listing pane, select one or more license checkboxes. 6. Click Delete. 7. 25 Configration Verifying EMC M&R platform licenses from Centralized Management Verify whether EMC M&R platform licenses are valid or expired for all servers in yor environment from Centralized Management. The local and remote servers listed in this view are registered with Centralized Management. Procedre 1. Log in with administrator credentials. For example, 2. Select Licenses Management. 3. In the Licenses Listing pane, read the Expiration colmn. The EMC Watch4net Centralized Management Gide provides information abot sing Centralized Management and server registration. Obtaining a new license after host reconfigration If yo change the configration of the host, for example, by adding interfaces, removing them, or by changing the operating system, yor EMC M&R permanent license may no longer work. In that case, obtain the host ID and reqest a new permanent license. Before yo begin Make sre yo have a login with root, APG, or system administrator privileges to perform this task. The ser apg is the accont that the application ses instead of root. Procedre 1. Type the command for yor operating system to obtain the host ID: Operating system UNIX Windows Command /opt/apg/bin/manage-licenses.sh host-id C:\Program Files\APG\bin\manage-licenses.cmd host-id Installing a SoltionPack 2. Copy the host ID information to a clipboard or to a text file. 3. For prodct licenses, go to spport.emc.com. 4. Browse to Service Center > Prodct Registration & Licenses. 5. Paste the host ID information into the Service Reqest (SR) for a new permanent license. After yo log in as an administrator, yo can install a SoltionPack from Centralized Management. Before yo begin Determine whether yo need a SoltionPack license file by checking the featre names and expiration dates listed in Centralized Management > License Management. If the license is not listed, obtain one by completing a Spport Reqest (SR) form, which yo can find on the EMC spport website Verifying EMC M&R platform licenses from Centralized Management 25

26 Configration Make sre the core modles, sch as the Modle-Manager, are p-to-date on all servers since not all modle dependencies are validated dring the SoltionPack installation. Look for additional SoltionPack-specific installation instrctions on the EMC Commnity Network (ECN) or the EMC Spport website. For example, more detailed information may be fond in the EMC M&R SoltionPack Articles for Service Assrance Site. Many SoltionPacks have read me files embedded in the software. Yo can find these after yo install the SoltionPack by navigating to Centralized Management > SoltionPacks. Expand the tree and click on the SoltionPack to open the Properties page where the docment is listed. Procedre 1. Log in and select Administration. 2. Select Centralized Management in the Administration tree. 3. Select SOLUTIONPACK CENTER. 4. Select the SoltionPack in the Browse and Install SoltionPacks screen. 5. Read the smmary information and click Install. 6. Select the components to install. a. Type the instance name. b. Select the server in one or more list boxes. For example, select the server in the Data collection and Reports list boxes. c. Click Next. 7. For each list box yo select, a screen appears. a. Click Next after yo complete each screen. b. Click Install after yo complete the last screen. The installation process begins. 8. Select the maximize arrow next to each component to view the installation process. When the installation sccessflly completes, green checkmarks appear. After yo finish After the installation is complete, select Centralized Management > SoltionPack to verify the installed SoltionPack. Reviewing reports After yo install a new release or migrate to a new release, check the reports to ensre that the data appears properly. Before yo begin If the collector configration changed, yo can manally rn the schedled tasks in Administration > Centralized-Management > Schedled Tasks > Database to speed p the report generation process. Wait at least two polling cycles before manally rnning the schedled tasks. To view yor report: Procedre 1. 30 EMC M&R Platform Update Planning the pgrade The procedres needed to pgrade to EMC M&R platform version 6.4.x vary depending pon the version yo have installed. In earlier versions of Watch4net docmentation, the term, "migration" described how to move from one "point" release to the next. (For example, from 6.2 to 6.3.) The terms, "pgrade" or "pdate," described how to move from one software pdate bndle to the next. (For example, 6.31 to 6.32.) With the release of EMC M&R (Watch4net) version 6.4, the migration and pdate procedres have been simplified by introdction of an pdate script. A single term, "pgrade," now describes all migration or pdate activities. Note Bring older Watch4net releases p to version 6.3.x before sing the pdate script to pgrade to version 6.4.x. EMC M&R pgrade workflow Yo can pgrade the EMC M&R platform from version 6.3.x or version 6.4 to version 6.4.x in a Linx, Windows, or mixed operating system environment. Ensre yo back p all servers before starting the pgrade process. Ensre new software is downloaded to all EMC M&R servers For deployments sing EMC M&R version 6.4 or higher, yo can configre the Online Update process to atomatically download newer versions of software. If yo se Online Update, skip the instrctions for installing the binary version of the pgrade file becase the latest software modles are already downloaded to the Modle Repository. If yo have not enabled Online Update, download the Linx install binary files from yor prodct page on the EMC spport website. (For example, for Service Assrance Site downloads, EMC_MnR_6.4.1_Linx_64-bit_Setp_File.sh. For Watch4net downloads, setp-linx-x86_641-v64.sh.) spport.emc.com. If yo have enabled Online Update for yor system, the atomatic pdate process has already downloaded and distribted the modles to each server. Yo can skip the binary file install process. Use a tool sch as SCP to pload the setp script to a temporary directory on every server that yo plan to pgrade. 2. Log in to the server as root. 3. Before starting core software services, ensre the library search path is correct on the server hosting the core software. This reqirement applies to the libaio package on Linx. To verify the path: 1. Deleting old Java files after Windows pdate When pgrading from Watch4net 6.3.x to EMC M&R 6.4.x, there is an error on startp de to a file in the previos Java version (6.045) folder not getting deleted after rnning the lanch-pdate script. Before yo begin After the lanch-pdate script rns, the Windows collector indicates sccessfl pdate of the Java modle. Bt the older version of Java is not removed. Yo mst manally remove the Java files as described in this message: Some files were left behind after the pdate of Java... Please manally remove directory 'C:\Program Files\APG\Java\Sn-JRE \6.045' Note Yo do not need to delete the old Java directory when pdating EMC M&R 6.4 software to 6.4.x. Updating Independent SoltionPackBlocks Update the Independent SoltionPackBlocks to se the latest modle configrations and report templates. Before yo begin Ensre the EMC M&R fondation (core modles) has been pdated on all hosts. Ensre yo renamed yor old Defalt ReportPack to make it easier to distingish the old version from the new one after the pgrade. 37 EMC M&R Platform Update installed in the distribted environment. Navigate to Centralized Management > Packages Management > Packages and click Synchronization. Select Retrieve the latest packages from the remote servers checkbox and click OK. Update the Health SoltionPack. This installs the generic reports modle (as a dependency) and also ploads the latest version of the Defalt ReportPack. Navigate to Centralized Management > SoltionPacks > Application > EMC Watch4net Health and pdate the report SoltionPackBlock. Note The SoltionPackBlock pdate process overwrites any manal edits made to the XML configration files and report cstomizations. Always se the Centralized Management web interface to pdate SoltionPackBlocks. Never se CLI commands to pdate SoltionPackBlocks. If yo have already made manal edits or cstomized reports, back them p. Procedre 1. In the left panel of Centralized Management, click SoltionPacks > Independent SoltionPackBlocks. A yellow star icon appears next to each SoltionPackBlock that reqires pdating. 2. Each installed Independent SoltionPackBlock that mst be pdated will display a yellow star. Click the star to begin the pdate. a. When the SoltionPack Update page appears, careflly review the settings on this page and make changes as needed. Most vales are from the existing SoltionPack bt some may be defalt vales for the pdated SoltionPack. While pdating blocks, check the property store configration. Wherever it is set to "localhost," change it to the frontend hostname. b. Click Update. The SoltionPack Update page provides information on the progress of this SoltionPack pdate. c. Select the maximize arrow next to view the pdate progress. When the pdate sccessflly completes, a green checkmark appears at the top of the page. After yo finish Trobleshooting the generic-rsc package Repeat the pdate process for each Independent SoltionPackBlock marked with the yellow star before proceeding to pdate SoltionPackBlocks. If the generic-rsc package reqires that yo enter host configration information for an pdate, follow these instrctions. Procedre 1. Navigate to Centralized Management > SoltionPacks > Independent SoltionPackBlocks. 2. Click the Pencil icon next to Generic-RSC. 3. Delete the Host configration section by clicking the Trash Can icon. 4.
