2 1 Purpose of qualification What is this qualification? The EAL Level 2 Diploma in Safe Working Practice in the Wind Turbine Industry is a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ). This qualification has been developed as a pathway to employment within the Wind Turbine Industry. It includes an introduction to the renewables sector, the necessary skills and knowledge to gain employment in the sector, the mandatory safety certificates required for employment and employability skills. What does this qualification cover? This qualification has 9 mandatory units covering: Health and Safety Introduction to Working with Electrics and Electronics Working at Heights First Aid Manual Handling Fire Safety Awareness Working in Medium Risk Confined Spaces Marine Safety and Sea Survival Employment Fundamentals Who is this qualification for? This qualification is intended to provide the essential mandatory skills and knowledge of safety in the wind turbine industry. This qualification is for learners aged 16 years and over wishing to develop their skills and knowledge and gain employment within the sector. I t is suitable for learners aged: Who supports the qualification? This qualification is: Developed in consultation with Maersk Training Newcastle Ltd to ensure it meets the needs of learners wishing to gain employment in the Wind Turbine Industry; Accredited by Ofqual at Level 2. What could this qualification lead to? On completion of this qualification the learner will have the basic skills and knowledge to gain employment in the wind turbine industry and progress within it or to other associated engineering jobs. Entry requirements There are no formal entry requirements however a level 1 qualification in Literacy and Numeracy (or equivalent) is advisable. Although direct entry for any candidate who would benefit from the programme is possible, the Centre should interview and undertake a diagnostic assessment of the learners to determine suitability. How is the qualification achieved? This qualification will be achieved when the learner has successfully completed: All of the mandatory units. 1 of 3
3 2 What will be assessed? How The qualification is assessed by Centre set and Centre marked knowledge and practical assessments. The assessments involve collecting and evaluating evidence that demonstrates achievement of the learning outcomes in the units. The internal assessments are accompanied by marking criteria and other material to ensure that the delivery team is consistent in their approach to internal assessment across learners. The Centre is responsible for ensuring that internal assessment is suitably controlled to ensure that assessment decisions are valid and reliable and that work submitted for assessment by learners is prepared and produced by them independently, without assistance from others and free of plagiarism. All learning outcomes of the qualification must be assessed. Centres should also maintain an assessment and feedback record for each learner, which details the evidence evaluated against the learning outcome and the feedback given to the learner. is the qualification delivered? Assessment methods within this qualification include an on-screen multiple choice examination for three of the mandatory units and Internal centre marked practical and theory assessments for the remaining two mandatory units and the optional units. Assessment methods have been designed to assess the knowledge, understanding and skills of learners for all units. The on-screen multiple choice examination is set by EAL and marked by EAL. The internal assessment is set by EAL and marked by members of the delivery team at the Centre. Where the assessment takes the form of written/short answer or multiple choice question papers, these must be treated as controlled assessments. All assessment decisions are then subject to internal and external quality assurance. Evidence of the assessment criteria being met includes:. Portfolio of work Verbal/written questioning Witness testimony Assessor observations Learners are not required to complete an exam for this qualification. 2 of 3
4 3 Structure This qualification will be obtained by the learner once they have completed all of the mandatory units. The qualification has a minimum credit value of 50 credits. The qualification has a minimum of 250 GL(hrs) and a Total Qualification Time of 500 hours.
