1 Statement of Purpose Name of Regulated Qualification: BIIAB Level 2 Certificate In ICT Systems and Principles for Practitioners (QCF) Level: 2 Ofqual Qualification Accreditation Number: 601/6470/0 Minimum credits (Size): 24 Overview What is the main (primary) purpose of this qualification? To enable you to progress to the next level of vocational learning What other purposes does the qualification serve? To enable you to develop knowledge in ICT systems What job role will it help me enter? It will provide you with the knowledge to work with ICT systems in a variety of job roles that specifically deal with ICT. Examples of relevant job roles include: Support technicians Website administrators Helpdesk professionals Games developer Software designers Data analysts Telecommunications technicians What is the minimum and maximum amount of learning that directly relates to an IT role? All 24 of the required credits relate directly to an IT role (1 credit is roughly equivalent to 10 hours of learning time). The qualification requires you to undertake a minimum of 3 different areas of learning (known as units). All units included within the qualification relate directly to an IT role.

2 Who is it for? This qualification is for learners preparing to work with ICT, such as support technicians, website administrators or helpdesk professionals. Learners do not need any prior qualifications, knowledge or experience. How will the qualification meet its purpose? This qualification has been designed to allow you to learn the principles of working with IT systems, and enables you to progress with that knowledge to use it to demonstrate competence in the BIIAB Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM). The qualification also provides you with an overview of the core concepts crucial to working within ICT, but offering the flexibility to further develop or refresh in a variety of subject areas. Is this qualification at the right level for me? You should do a qualification at this level (Level 2) if you feel that you are ready to use skills, knowledge and understanding to complete routine tasks with some autonomy, some of which may not be familiar to you, and you feel you are ready to take responsibility for your work. You should also have the ability to address problems. If you feel that you are able to do some of the above but not all (eg perhaps you feel that you need supervision, and may not be ready to deal with problems yourself) you should consider undertaking a Level 1 qualification. If you feel that this may be too easy for you (eg perhaps you already supervise other team members), you could look to do a higher level qualification such as the BIIAB Level 3 Certificate In ICT Systems and Principles for Professionals (QCF) 601/6461/X. Is this qualification in an apprenticeship? Yes. This qualification is part of the Intermediate Apprenticeship for IT, Software, Web & Telecoms Professionals. You may wish to do this qualification as part of the Apprenticeship, or on its own. You may wish to do the qualification on its own (eg outside of an Apprenticeship) if: you do not want to do the other qualifications that makes up the apprenticeship (the Level 2 Diploma In Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM)) you do not have the time to do the other main qualification that makes up the apprenticeship, for example if you work part-time you do not feel the need to undertake Functional Skills you feel you will be unable to achieve the Functional Skills requirements but are able to, and still wish to, achieve a nationally recognised regulated qualification at this level you do not qualify to undertake a publicly funded Apprenticeship, for example if you are too young

3 your employer wants you to just do the qualification and not undertake a full Apprenticeship How long will this qualification take me? The qualification requires 150 Guided Learning Hours (the number of hours where you will be given guidance, usually by a tutor, in order to achieve the outcomes) and approximately 240 hours in total (1 credit is roughly equivalent to 10 hours of learning time). Some people learn more quickly or are more experienced than others so it may take you more or less time than 240 hours to achieve this qualification. Is this the right qualification in this subject area for me? You should undertake this qualification if you want to gain the knowledge required to use IT, or prepare for a role within the ICT industry. If you are looking to undertake a qualification that provides you with IT User Skills then you should not take this qualification and look to undertake the BIIAB Level 2 Award In IT User Skills (QCF) 601/6490/6 or the BIIAB Level 2 Award In IT User Skills (ITQ) (QCF) 601/6462/1 if you wish to demonstrate IT User Skills within an Apprenticeship. If you are in the workplace and a skilled practicing professional, you may wish to demonstrate your competence by undertaking the BIIAB Level 2 Diploma In Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM) (QCF) 601/6450/5. Is this the right size qualification for me? You should do this Certificate sized qualification if you are prepared to undertake 150 hours of guided learning If you feel this is too much at this time, you could consider focussing on selecting units from this qualification instead, or on doing a smaller, qualification such as the BIIAB Level 2 Award In ICT Systems and Principles for Practitioners (QCF) 601/6468/2: this qualification provides a brief introduction to the ICT industry. If you feel you need a broader range of knowledge and can study for longer, you might consider undertaking the BIIAB Level 2 Diploma In ICT Systems and Principles for Practitioners (QCF) 601/6469/4 which focusses on specific areas of work within the ICT industry. Are there any requirements to do this qualification? You would need a desire to work in the ICT industry and/or You would need a desire to work to obtain ICT Systems and Principles You should have the ability to achieve the qualification (after learning and training)

4 You should have a desire to progress with further training an assessment after achievement of the qualification. At what age can I take this qualification? This qualification is suitable for learners who are: What does this qualification cover? Overall: Knowledge and understanding working with ICT systems, and the principle to work effectively. Mandatory units: You will be assessed on the following area: Organisation and planning of workload Optional units: You must choose optional units from a range of units (please see the appendix for the full list). Your choice will depend on the areas in which you work, or wish to develop knowledge. Framework This qualification is accredited on the Qualifications and Credit Framework (QCF). What could this qualification lead to? This qualification shows you have gained Level 2 knowledge about ICT systems. It may help you to get a job within the ICT sector, to improve your performance at work or be promoted. This qualification s primary purpose is that it enables you to progress with underpinning knowledge and apply it to demonstrate competence in the BIIAB Level 2 Diploma in Professional Competence for IT and Telecoms Professionals (PROCOM) 601/6450/5. If, upon completion, you wish to further develop the knowledge you have gained, you may be ready to progress to a higher level, for example by undertaking the following qualification: BIIAB Level 3 Award In ICT Systems and Principles for Professionals (QCF) 601/6506/6 This qualification is designed for those who already possess basic knowledge and understanding of ICT systems and principles, but want to broaden their knowledge.
