Page 18 During the time I was self employed, I was commissioned with the production of over 100+ projects. The range was from simple visualisation stills to content for installations over to visual effects for german TV shows like Polizeiruf 110. At the Filmakademie I produced 2 VFX driven shorts, 2 Full CG shorts and 1 Image Film for the Technical Director Degree of the Academy. I was awarded with the VES award 2016 for outstanding visual effects in studend project for my gradiuation film Citipati and Face the Darkness was awarded with the Calagari Filmpreis 2015 and with 2x Silver Screen award in Cannes Furthermore I was involved in academy projects outside the Institute for Animation and Visual Effects. In that time I was the vfx producer of the feature film Land of Light which will air in german TV in 2016 and for the pilot of the webseries Redland which won an LA Webfest Award for oustanding visual effects. 6 10 11 #01 Citipati Client Location Date Length Graduation Project Germany :50 Official Selection Citipati is a 6,5-minute long, 3D-animated student short about a dinosaur within the final moments of its death, and the creature s own personal struggle in it s mind. The project was completed within 18 months of production in total. The animation and visual effects lasted 12 month from concept to rendering. To make matters even more complicated, the project was conceived to be fully rendered in stereoscopic 3D from the start. The film in total contains over 300 individual FX simulations of all types, including liquids, fluids, particles, rigid bodies and hair simulations. Scheduling was done completely by spreadsheet. Dailies as well as milestone presentations was standard procedure. 7 12 13 The 3D scenes were divided into multiple render layers, which were again split into individual render elements, because the lighting and shading were completely revised in compositing on a regular basis. This sometimes resulted in 320+ render elements per shot (x2 due to stereo 3D) and more than 4,500 nodes within individual compositing scripts.

8 14 15 #02 BreakingPoint Client Location Date Lenght Graduation Project Germany :40 This shortfilm is about to give birth to a child and experiences a surreal moment because it s a complicated birth. Everything happens in a metaphorical scene where the baby is falling from a house on one end of a street and the mother on exactly the other end. Only because of sheer willpower she manages to rescue the baby and herself. This VFX driven short film consists of 32 vfx shots, some full cg shots and lots of simulations. Official Selection

9 16 17 The shooting was done in 4 different locations in Germany and was one of the most sophisticated shootings of the Institute of Animation. The preproduction was very accurate: all locations were 3D scanned and measured and all data for shooting was planned through the previz. This included which lenses to use on every shot as well as the daytime for every shot. This was possible because everything was build in 3D and through gps it was possible to simulate the sun and shadows on the date when we needed to shoot. The VFX team consists of 3 lead artists and 7 supporting digital artists. More than 30 digital assets were scanned on site. A lot of elements were shot in the studio to minimize the need for simulations. Shot and asset tracking is done using custom scripted spreadsheeds. The project will have a total production time from concept to final of 14 month and will be completed in april 2016.

10 18 19 #03 Face the Darkness Client Location Date Length Graduation Project Germany :20 The harsh and ultimately beautiful environment showcased in this commercial, as well as with the unstoppable force of the beast, forms the perfect counterpart to the velvet like foam and rich aromatic taste of Einstök Toastet Porter. After a quick concept and pre production phase (about 6 weeks) we went to Iceland for a 8 day location scouting and shooting. 11 20 21 Concept and technology The concept was illustrated very early in 2D and 3D at the same time. We needed a first 3D concept, that was rigged with a basic setup and roughly animated using the references of our animatic. We used this for our ncam system on set to support the DOP. At the same time, a second unit photographed rocks and hills for photogrammetry purposes to create 3D assets for set dressing. The commercial has 31 VFX shots. 18 of them include the creature and 5 are Full CG. The complete production time from concept to final are 9 months. Shot tracking and reviewing is done using ftrack. The VFX Team consists of 8 digital artists.

12 22 23 #04 Phosphoros Client Location Date Length Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg Germany :00 Phosphoros is a 60 second trailer for the 21st Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film in It was created by a team of 10 students, including a composer and a sounddesigner during a period of 4 month. It is full cg and includes a character and fluid simulation. Scheduling was done using shotgun and spreadsheets. Meetings were held in dailies. 13 24 25 The trailer got some positive response in the media, including a mention by Shelly Page as one of the 10 must-see VFX short animations in Besides a facebook page, it got also a 6-page report in the Digital Production magazine and in Shelly Pages article in an issue of 3D World.

14 26 27 #05 Risen 2 Main Menu Client Location Date Length Deep Silver Germany October :30 The main menu was created by 2 artists in about 4 weeks of production time, including concept and production. Every asset was modelled and shaded by the team. The animation was loopable and needed to be used in multiple aspect ratios to support every type of TV. The game was shipped worldwide as AAA title and was released for XBOX360, PS3 and PC. Client reviews were held in weeklies and completely virtual via Skype and gdocs.

15 28 29 #06 40 Thoughts Client Location Date Length Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg Germany x 1:00 40 Thoughts is a 3 episode shortfilm 2d animated series created for the 21st Stuttgart Festival of Animated Film in Several stories told in progressing, sometimes intersecting fragments illustrate cyclical yet unpredictable nature of life. It was created by a single director/animator, Anselm Pyta using Toon Boom Harmony. The team also included a composer and a sounddesigner during a period of 4 month.
