3 Computer Animation at Escape Studios Our Computer Animation degree is available to study full-time as either a three year Bachelor of Arts (BA) or a four year Integrated Master of Arts (MArt). Both will prepare you for your future career, but those staying on for the extra year of the MArt are likely to want to start their own studios as this adds entrepreneurship to the mix. From 2004 to 2012 the animation workforce increased by 53%, with around 4,600 people in employment in 2012 (Creative Skillset), meaning there is an increasing demand for talented artists. 4 Your first year All Escape Studios undergraduate students study common modules in their first year. This will give you the all-round skills you ll need to start on your journey to becoming a professional. Team building and creative foundations One week induction Creative Foundations - Project Creative Foundations - Craft One week showcase You start working like a professional from the beginning and you ll undertake team projects to industry briefs. You will have intensive tuition to build skills in the creative foundations including design, visual communication and narrative and then you ll put these into practice. Your first year includes a showcase and you ll get feedback on your work from industry professionals. Your work is assessed by a mix of tutor, industry, peer and self-review, just as it would be when you become a professional. This is because working across disciplines is key to many projects and it also allows you to discover which career path suits you best.

5 Your second year Your third year In your second year you ll begin to focus on Computer Animation, developing the skills you need to thrive in the industry. You ll be working on the same kit used by industry professionals, following industry-standard briefs and working to realistic deadlines. You ll now be able to hone your skills and begin to demonstrate the level of skills and knowledge that will get you noticed in your field. You ll also learn what it means to work as a professional in your field, both as a freelancer and as part of a larger organisation. For the studio project you will work in groups - learning from each other, giving and receiving constructive feedback, sharing skills and collaborating on projects across disciplines. You ll also start to specialise in a particular aspect of your discipline, going deeper into an area that you ve studied and developing expertise that you ll carry into your future career. Your final studio project is a chance to bring all your skills together and showcase your talent. You ll work in teams but we will make interventions, such as changing the brief or a deadline to mirror the real world and help you develop the resilience that is part of being a creative professional.

6 Your fourth year If you re doing the four-year MArt The Art of Computer Animation (Integrated Masters), you ll learn about becoming an entrepreneur and develop the skills needed to start your own studio. You ll be asked to organise yourselves to work as a fully-fledged digital studio, working on projects that will be viable and to a commercial standard. Developing your craft You ll be taking a project right from its inception through to delivery, with each stage being assessed for its artistic values, the excellence of the craft demonstrated, the way you ve managed the process and the viability of the business model. Billy Butler Davi has an impressive range of compositing (3D modeller at award winning Framestore), experience and works with us as a compositing tutor. It s hard to know where to start with her credits, because she s worked on so many iconic films. Such as, The Dark Knight and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. Mark Bakowski (VFX Supervisor at renowned studio Industrial light & magic) and Giles Pilbrow (Animator, TV Producer, Cartoonist and cowriter of the UK's funniest satirical magazine - Private Eye.) are just a few industry contacts that have inspired our students. The thing I enjoy the most about my course is the personal relationship I have with my tutors, they are able to focus on my personal development. The environment is very friendly and welcoming, and the classrooms are not too big or too small, making it easy to study, follow along with tutorials and be able to mingle with other students. 8 Student showcase Our first year Computer Animation students were given briefs to re-imagine a classic fairy tale with a modern twist. The project concludes with a classroom pitch, complete with supporting material such as artwork and character design. Escapees, where are they now? Our alumni (dubbed Escapees) are welcomed into our vibrant, well-connected and global community. There are over 4,000 Escapees working throughout the VFX, games and animation industry who you ll find behind many award winning films, TV shows and thousands of commercials. Computer Animation student, Ronnie Kaye, re-imagined Little Red Riding Hood as a biker girl in a dystopian world. Ronnie Kaye met the brief to re-imagine a classic tale, maintaining the recognisable classic story and giving a sense of the original characters.
