1 RSLogix 5 Software PLC-5 Programming Software, Version Ref: ACIG Date: February, 2008 Dear Rockwell Automation Customer, The purpose of this Product Service Advisory is to inform you of a functional issue that exists with: RSLogix 5 PLC5 Programming Software, Version This Advisory explains the functional issue and the steps being taken to rectify the situation.

2 Page 2 -Issue Description- With RSLOGIX 5 PLC5 PROGRAMMING SOFTWARE, VERSION , hereafter referred to as RSLogix 5, the following functional issues exist: Using the Search/Find or Search/Replace feature for an address within a BTR or BTW instruction may result in an unintentional alteration of the control block or data file address if the Search/Find or Search/Replace is searching at the bit / sub-element level of the address. Note: If you do not have BTR or BTW instructions in your projects, you can ignore Functional Issue 1 below. However, please review Functional issue 2, as it is applicable to all projects. Functional Issue 1: The control block or data file address of a BTR/BTW instruction will be unintentionally changed if a Search/Find or Search/Replace feature is used to search (or replace) to the bit or sub-element level of the address, as described below. Note: Element level addresses are, for example BT9:0 and N7:0. BT9:0/ER, BT9:0.ELEM, and N7:0/1 are examples of bit / sub-element level addresses. For this issue to occur for a control block address, the address specified in the search must be in the range of the control block address +1 to control block address +4. For example, if the control block address is BT12:0 then search would have to include addresses in the range between BT12:1 to BT12:4 to occur. For this to occur for a data file address, the address specified in the search must be in the range of data file address +1 to data file address + length -1. (The length is specified in the BTR or BTW after the data file address) For example, if the data file address is N7:0 and the length is 4, then the address specified in the search must be within N7:1 to N7:3 to occur. So, if the block transfer control block address is BT9:0 and you perform a search using BT9:1/ER, the block transfer control block would be changed from BT9:0 to BT9:1. If the block transfer data file address is N7:0 and you perform a search using N7:1/1, the data file address would be changed from N7:0 to N7:1. The resulting effect of this issue is the unintended replacement of the control block or data file address with the one specified in the search or search/replace. A working block transfer instruction may cease to function correctly. Additional block transfer instructions throughout your project could also cease to function correctly. Also, please consider that a single search procedure could affect multiple block transfer instructions.

3 Page 3 Functional Issue 2: In RSLogix 5, if an instruction has multiple operands, but the first operand is not set as address, the other addresses in the instruction will be missed in the "Find" or "Replace" process. For example: DIV 3.5 F8:0 F8:1,( 3.5 is divided by F8:0 and puts the result into F8:1 ), Because 3.5 is a constant rather than an address, F8:0 and F8:1 will not be found. -Temporary Workaround- Current workaround is to avoid the use of the search function as described above until the software is updated to version or later. -Product Identification- Product affected by this Mandatory Product Service Advisory includes RSLOGIX 5 SOFTWARE with the following series and version levels: 9324-RL5300ENE, 9324-RL5300ENF, 9324-RL5700NXENE-Software,, VERSION Rockwell Automation shipped/made available the affected products between October 1, 2007 and November 15, In order to identify if your version of RSLogix 5 is affected, open your RSLogix Software and select: Help > About. You may need to use the pull-down menu to view the latest version installed. If the latest version matches the version referenced above, your software is affected by this functional issue.

4 Page 4 -Issue Correction- The functional issue described above has been corrected in the following versions of the RSLogix 5: RSLogix 5 programming software, version Version removes the Search feature for finding addresses used with block transfer instructions. Important: If this new address search feature for block transfers was used in version , you should review all BTR and BTW instructions to check for any altered addresses and then correct them to the original values. Use the Compare Utility to check this information. The Compare utility is available under Tools > Compare in RSLogix. Follow the instructions in the RSLogix online Help in the topic Compare Utility to perform a compare of the current project to an earlier known good version of the project.

5 Page 5 -Requested Customer Action- Each notified customer should take the following actions: Confirm that you have the affected products. If you have affected product, please update the software to the latest version. Software updates can be found at If you have transferred ownership of the affected product to another company or individual, you should immediately contact your local Rockwell Automation Sales and Support office with contact information for the new owner of the affected product and forward the notification to the new owner of the affected equipment.
