For Versatile Shooting Digital Subject Program Selection For High Quality Images White balance Adjustable camera sensitivity (ISO equivalent) Continuous shooting White balance refers to the process of color correction to match various lighting conditions. In Auto mode, white balance is optimized for the present lighting to produce the most natural-looking images. For varying types of light sources, you can select from among several other modes, such as Daylight, Tungsten, Fluorescent and Cloudy. With DYNAX 7D, DiMAGE A200 and DiMAGE Z series, you can even customize white balance for specific shooting requirements. Sensitivity is automatically controlled for all types of shooting conditions, even in dark environments or when using the flash. When you want to set sensitivity manually, you can choose from several ISO-equivalent values.* Noise reduction for dark images ON * Except DiMAGE X31. By using this handy function, you don t have to worry about changing shutter-speed, aperture and other settings for various scenes. Just select the scene mode and release the shutter; the camera makes all the settings automatically. With Automatic Subject Program Selection, the camera analyzes the type of scene you re shooting and automatically optimizes the necessary settings. For sports scenes or other fast-moving action, just keep pressing the shutter-release button; the camera continuously shoots* the sequence of the motion, so you ll be sure to capture the exact moment you want. The AF system of DiMAGE cameras and DYNAX 7D uses either 3, 5, 9 or 11 AF sensors to cover a wide area of the frame.* Even off-center or moving subjects can be easily and accurately focused. For precise focusing of a specific area of the subject, Spot AF is also available on some models. When shooting at slow shutter speeds, image noise tends to occur with digital cameras. Metering To measure the brightness of the subject in order to achieve optimum exposure accuracy in diverse lighting situations, Multi-segment metering draws on an array of sensors to deliver beautifully balanced exposures. Depending on what you are shooting, you can also choose Spot metering, which measures the specific subject area, or Center-weighted metering, which concentrates on the central part of the image. Manual focus control When you want more creative control over how your shot is focused, switch to manual mode. This allows you to fine-tune the focus manually. PASM exposure control * Except DiMAGE X series. A choice of four exposure modes gives you the flexibility to use automatic operation or enjoy versatile creative control. * Functions vary according to model. P (Programmed AE) mode In this mode, all you have to do is aim and shoot. The camera automatically combines the best aperture and shutter speed settings for the subject you are shooting. A (Aperture priority) mode Allows you to vary the aperture setting to precisely control the depth-offield. The optimum shutter speed is set automatically. S (Shutter priority) mode You can change the shutter speed manually, while the camera automatically selects the optimum aperture setting. M (Manual) mode This mode gives you full creative control over the exposure setting by allowing adjustment of both aperture and shutter speed to achieve a desired effect. Exposure compensation and bracketing To obtain the exposure level that best suits your creative purpose, you can use exposure compensation to set a value higher or lower than the correct exposure set by the camera. It offers versatile display capabilities, including a File Browser function with 6-frame index display, simultaneous image and histogram display, all-frame display of an auto-bracketing series, and multi-frame display of 4, 9 or 16 images. In the shooting mode, both current settings and exposure values are displayed in large, easy-to-read type. You can also enlarge part of the image or settings for a closer look or easier confirmation.
