17 ETSI ERM TG26 Maritime Communication TG26 deals with standardization in relation to the Marine Equipment Directive (i.e. required to be carried by ships under the IMO SOLAS convention). 18 ETSI Technical Committee SES Satellite Earth Stations and Systems Responsibility the Home in ETSI for Satellite Earth Stations and Systems standardization. The scope can include: All types of satellite communication services and applications (including mobile and broadcasting), All types of earth stations and earth station equipment, especially the radio frequency interfaces and network and/or user interfaces, Protocols implemented in earth stations and satellite systems. 20 WG Aeronautical Satellite Earth Stations (AES) The Scope of the WG is definition of an HS (EN ) for Earth Stations installed on aircraft operating in operating in the 11/12/14 GHz frequency bands. Standardization of transmit/receive aircraft earth stations in order to ensure general safety and to limit interference to other radio communications systems. Guarantee satisfactory limits for unwanted emissions, focusing primarily on the Radio Astronomy bands and under extreme environmental conditions (specifically vibration). Collaboration with the Joint Aviation Authorities (JAA),and as necessary by other organisations, e.g. EUROCAE. ESA, Palais de Luxemourg, Paris 29 April

23 WG Harmonisation Responsible for the maintenance of Harmonized Standards under the R&TTE Directive (99/5 EC). 24 Working Group on Geo Mobile Radio GMR is a satellite-based extension of the GSM terrestrial cellular standard The Geo-Mobile Radio (GMR) air interface specifications describe requirements to support a mobile satellite service via geostationary earth orbit satellites Document structure based on GSM specifications and the GMR specifications are organized into two releases: Release 1 specifications. Defines the GMR circuit mode services, which are based on the GSM phase 2 circuit mode services. published jointly in ETSI (TB-SES) and in the TIA (TR 34.1) Release 2 specifications. 26 Working Group Broadband Satellite Multimedia To produce specifications, standards and other ETSI deliverables for broadband satellite multimedia. This includes: Definition of satellite system architectures supporting broadband services Service requirements and descriptions for broadband communications systems Definition of network architectures and interface protocols leading to air interface standards, interworking standards and other user terminal specifications. 27 WG BSM Internet Protocol over Satellite (IPoS) This standard was developed by TIA in the TR working group the standard conforms to the SES-BSM architecture as a result of the ongoing liaisons between BSM and TIA. Soon published by ETSI (TS ) as endorsement of TIA document IPoS is proposed as a Transparent Satellite Star (TSS) family member in accordance with the BSM family classification defined in TR developed to create a multivendor procurement environment for remote terminals for providing the two-way satellite Internet access for both residential and SOHO markets ESA, Palais de Luxemourg, Paris 29 April

28 ETSI standards for Galileo Need for an Open Standard for Galileo identified Talks with Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU) Basis for contribution to ICAO, Eurocae for Aeronautical applications Taking into account of the results of working groups responsible for the design of the Galileo system and user equipment. Realisation of an Open Standard through ETSI Expertise and Publications Approach based on annual Releases, in progression with the definition of the system design meeting with Galileo Joint Undertaking (GJU), in charge of Standardisation activity. representative of GJU on Galileo accepted to come to the next plenary TC SES #61 to present the Galileo status and may be some standardisation activity. 29 CONCLUSION ETSI is heavily involved in Space Communication to produce technical standards and support regulation. SC EMTEL is the focal point for discussing the user perspective and their requirements TC ERM is the focal point for frequency and regulatory matters and TG25 support the Single European Sky initiative TB SES is the focal point for activity covering all aspect of standardisation of a Satellite Systems ESA, Palais de Luxemourg, Paris 29 April
