BYOD Informational Session
Why BYOD?
What is BYOD? BYOD is Bring Your Own Device. It is a Wake County initiative to assist students in integrating technology with learning. It will enable our students to become futureready, empowering them with the 4 Cs of 21st Century learning - collaboration, communication, creativity, and critical thinking.
WCPSS Student Acceptable Use Policy (AUP) School Board Policy 6446: Wi-fi access will come with the same security walls, etc., that are in place for all school devices. This policy governs the use of WCPSS electronic information resources and defines students' proper conduct and responsibilities while using WCPSS electronic information resources. The entire AUP Policy can be located on page in WCPSS Student Parent Handbook.
What type of device can my child bring in? Internet enabled devices that can connect to the district s wireless network. These devices may include, but are not limited to: -ipod Touches -ipads -tablet computing devices -smartphones -laptops -netbooks -e-readers
What if My child cannot Bring in a Device Students who cannot bring outside technology will be able to access and utilize the school s equipment. NO student will be left out of classroom instruction.
When will devices be used? Who determines when I can use my personal mobile device? Teachers determine when use of mobile devices is appropriate and allowed within your classroom. Use of the BYOD network is for instructional and school related purposes only. Students may not use any device or service for non-educational purposes during school hours, unless granted permission by a school administrator or teacher.
What are parent responsibilities? Carefully read and review the BYOD Student Parent Agreement. Both parent and student must agree to this policy in order to participate. Monitor that your device is in proper working order and is fully charged daily. To avoid data usage, parents are responsible for showing their child how to connect to Wake County WiFi with their device.
Security and Damages Responsibility for the security of the device resides with the individual student. Hunter GT/AIG Basics Elementary is not liable for any device stolen or damaged on campus. If a device is stolen or damaged, it will be handled through the administrative office similar to other personal artifacts that are impacted in similar situations. We highly recommended that skins (decals) and other custom touches are used to physically identify your device from others. Protective cases for technology are encouraged.
Wake County BYOD Partnerships Wake County is partnering with Barnes and Noble, Apple, and StayMobile. B&N and Apple stores are offering training programs. Contact your local store for more information on these programs.
