1 Tangipahoa Parish School System Bring Your Own Device

2 Students will be able to bring their own technology devices (e.g. any brand of laptop or tablet, ipod Touch, and Smartphones) for use in the school setting. A filtered Internet connection on our wireless network will be provided for student use. Students may use their technology devices to support instructional activities occurring in the classroom. Each teacher has the discretion to allow and regulate the use of personal devices in the classroom and on specific projects. Students participating in the BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) program must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct, Student Handbook, Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), all Board policies, and the attached guidelines regarding BYOD. 3 1. Students must have a signed BYOD Agreement and Acceptable Use Policy on file in order to use personal technology devices (PTD). 2. Student device must contain the appropriate TPSS MDM profile to allow for remote management by the district during school hours. 3. Students will follow each teacher's BYOD policy while in their classroom. (No cell phones will be used when there is a substitute teacher in the classroom.) 4. The use of devices outside of the classroom will be designated by each site administrator.(school administrators will provide specific usage and expectations for their campus.)

4 7. Students are NOT permitted to use their own 3G/4G network, as this is a violation of the Tangipahoa Parish Acceptable User Agreement and the Children's Internet Protection Act (CIPA). 5. Personal technology devices may NOT be used for noninstructional purposes unless designated by a school administrator (e.g. personal phone calls, text/instant messaging, etc.) during the school day. Unauthorized use will result in confiscation of the device and disciplinary action. 6. Student devices should only be used with the "TPSS Guest Wireless Network" and under no circumstances should privately owned devices be physically plugged into the school network connection points.

5 8. Students may not use personal technology devices to establish a wireless network. 9. Students may not use a personal technology device to photograph, record audio or video while on District property or while engaged in school-sponsored activities unless approved by school personnel. 10. Students are required to give devices to school personnel when directed. Refusal to comply with such directives will be considered insubordination and the student will be subject to disciplinary action.

6 11. Student removal of a memory chip or battery from a personal technology device in the process of being confiscated is considered grounds for disciplinary action. (Revised July, 2015) 12. The District reserves the right to collect and examine any personal technology devices brought to school. 13. Students who have a revocation of technology privileges are not allowed to bring in a portable electronic device. 14. The District is not responsible for any data plan charges students incur during their participation in the BYOD Program.

7 15. Printing from personal technology devices will not be possible at school. 16. Tangipahoa Parish Schools participating will NOT service any personal technology device, which includes troubleshooting, software or hardware issues. Students are responsible for securing their devices and making sure they have up-to-date anti-virus software installed, if applicable. 17. All technology devices will have to be registered through the school. This may be done through the school website or in the school media center (library). The District is not responsible for any lost, damaged or stolen equipment.

Students are not permitted to access electronic devices when red Device Free Zone signs are in view.

8 Each teacher has the discretion to allow and regulate the use of personal devices in the classroom and on specific projects. To make it more clear when it is or is not ok to use devices, Green and Red signs will be displayed across the PJHS campus. Students are not permitted to access electronic devices when red Device Free Zone signs are in view. If devices are seen in a Device Free Zone, teachers will follow the TPSS Electronic Device Policy found on the next slide. Hallways, Restrooms & Commons Area Are Device Free Zones!

9 TPSS Electronic Device Policy 1 st Occurrence Device is held in the office for 2 Days. 2 Days PAC or 1 Day OSS Parents must pick up device. 2 nd Occurrence Device is held in the office for 5 Days. 3 Days PAC or 1 Day OSS Parents must pick up device after $15 fine is paid. 3 rd + Occurrence Device is held in the office for 10 Days. 5 Days PAC or 4 Days OSS Parents must pick up device after $25 fine is paid. All devices should be OFF and in your backpack or purse while in a Device Free Zone.
