Firmwares like: fw-[f n xx-]a.b.c[rc k ]-hash fw-[f n xx-]a.b.c-dev[-description]-hash fw-[f n xx-]a.b.c-hash+ users only in special cases - release candidate - test version - developer version, provided to can be installed to tracker under user s responsibility, and cguard LLC isn t responsible for any negative consequences caused by using these firmwares. Version of a firmware installed on tracker is shown in configurator ( Tracker tab) (see «firsttime setting»). 2

Introduction This guide represents the user instructions for the user terminal of personal monitoring cguard ( Tracker as further in text), able to execute following functions: real-time locating current object s position; sending data to monitoring system to track object s route; SOS-alert; low battery alert. 3

8 7 6. First-time setting The tracker can be configured by using the official application cguard Configurator. You can download the latest version of this program from the manufacturer s website. 9 Emergency call/sms settings When the SOS-button is pressed, the tracker can make a call or send an SMS to the assigned number, depending of the chosen type of an action. To set up the type of the notification and a phone number to call (or to text), choose the Settings tab in the configurator, and then press the Advanced button. The moment the SOS-button is pressed is accompanied with vibration. The phone number in this parameter must NOT be the same with the number of the SIM-card installed in tracker. The tracker will freeze and the money limit of its SIM-card can exceed. 7

10 Low battery alert customizing When the battery charge level becomes lower than the adjusted threshold (if firmware version 1 is lower than 3.0.0, this threshold is not editable and equals 20%), the tracker sends an SMS to the assigned number: Tracker ID needs charging. Phone number can be set in Configurator (Settings\Advanced): NUMBER_TO_NOTIFY: phone number ( ex) or by remote command: PARAM_SET: NUMBER_TO_NOTIFY: (more about remote configuration in corresponding guide). To set the threshold of battery charge level: BAT_LOW_TLD:charge level in percentages Important! The phone number in this parameter must NOT be the same with the number of the SIM-card installed in tracker. The tracker will freeze and the money limit of its SIM-card can exceed Cell locate positioning Cell locate positioning is the additional ability for tracker to locate by signals from three base GSM stations. When this ability is enabled, tracker start to search for the stations when there s no connection with satelllites. This type of locating is less precise than GPS, but can be useful for objects in hard conditions for satellite capturing (tunnels, underground parkings, etc) This ability can be enabled in Configurator (Settings\Advanced): CELL_LOCATE:1 or by remote command: PARAM_SET:CELL_LOCATE:1 (more about remote configuration in corresponding guide) 6.4. Asset mode There is an ability to use asset mode for devices with firmware version and higher. In this mode device works by the following algorithm: device leaves the deep sleeping mode and registers in a GSM network at a certain time or after the specified time interval (how to set conditions for starting working session see below); device sends data object s location and current speed to a monitoring server; device returns to a deep sleeping mode. 1 Firmware version can be found in Tracker tab in configurator. 8

11 9 Mode can be changed by parameter DEVICE_MODE in advanced settings window in configurator (see pic. 4): value ASSET corresponds to an Asset mode, value TRACKER corresponds to a Tracker mode. Setting the device mode Parameters to determine work conditions in asset mode: ASSET_WAKE_AT time, when the device starts working session in format hh:mm:ss, example 13:30:00 (device gets in touch at 13:30 every day). If the value of this parameter is 24:00:00, this parameter is ignored; ASSET_WAKE_DAY 1 day, when the device starts working session (appropriate values MONDAY, TUESDAY etc., and also EVERYDAY). This parameter works together with ASSET_WAKE_AT, and if ASSET_WAKE_AT is turned off (valued 24:00:00), then day choosing parameter is ignored too; ASSET_WAKE_PERIOD time interval, after which device starts working, in minutes. Example (device gets in touch every two hours). Minimal value 15 min. It s impossible to use both these conditions (at precise day and time / after some period) at the same device. Parameter ASSET_WAKE_AT has higher priority, i.e. if its value is different from 24:00:00, parameter ASSET_WAKE_PERIOD is ignored. ASSET_MV_DETECTOR 1 parameter for motion detector activation in asset mode. Can have values 1 or 0 (1 on, 0 off). If this detector is activated, then device starts to work in Tracker mode since it began moving. When it stops, device returns into Asset mode (but the value of DEVICE_MODE parameter doesn t change). ASSET_NAV_TIMEOUT 1 parameter to set the time for geoposition capturing after device starts its work (by the working session conditions or by motion detector). 12 10 it s position by satellites after this time period ends, then it starts locating by basic GSM stations (CELL_LOCATE). 7. Remote configuration There are two data channels for remote configuration: SMS GPRS The remote configuration guide and the list of available commands can be downloaded from our website. GPRS configuration allows customizing device parameters and uploading device firmware. SMS-commands can change device parameters and make requests for device status and location. 10

13 11 8. Device status indication There are two LEDs: SAT and DAT to show the work process of device: DAT indicator (1) Pic.5. Device indicators The DAT indicator lights while sending data sets by GPRS and signals the work with mobile net. If it s lighting permanently, the connection is not established yet, if it s blinking data is sending successfully. In charging mode, when the battery is fully charged this LED s indication inverts. SAT indicator (2) When power connected appropriately, LEDs light and go out twice in order from SAT to DAT, it signals that work started successfully. Then SAT begins to blink once or twice in 5 seconds it is a stable device work indication. If it blinks twice, the device is searching for satellites; if it blinks once satellites are captured. When the battery is fully charged, this LED s indication inverts. Colours of the LEDs may vary depending on device release party. It can be red, green or orange, and the colour is not associated with functionality of LED. If both LEDs light permanently, there s a system error of device. You should connect the service center. If both LEDs are blinking, it s the signal of battery discharge. To continue the work charge the battery. 11

15 13 9. Battery lifetime and charging. Battery life in active mode up to 48 hours. Battery life in standby mode 5 to 30 days. Important! Do not charge the device in below zero temperature it will damage the battery. Device fully charges in 8 hours (average), it depends on parameters of the charger. The recommended chargers are microusb cables from 800mA to 2 A, voltage 5 V. Important! The 100% charge level as it shown in configurator doesn t guarantee the full charge of the battery. To make sure the battery has fully charged see the device Indication. Important! When the battery charge level becomes lower than 25% it takes more time for the tracker to get first-time location. If position was already located on this charge level, there s no such problem. 13

16 Exploitation rules For good tracking quality, cguard Personal tracker needs appropriate orientation. While carried in hands, bag or car, device position must not be SOS-button down. Perfect position button to the top. While carrying the device in pocket, the button should be oriented away from the user. User should not carry mobile phone, keys or portable radio set in the same pocket with the tracker. While using the tracker in city, area with high and dense buildings, we recommend to place the tracker close to window for 10 minutes before leaving the building for the first time a day. Capturing satellites takes some time, and it lets tracker search for signal at the starting point, so track will be more accurate. The battery capacity may decrease while using the tracker at temperatures lower than minus 18 C. It is highly undesirable to use the device at temperatures lower than -30 C without insulating cover. But it can be transported even then while being shut-off. 14
