What is Associate Pledge and How Does it Work Associate Pledge enables your organization to take control of the distracted driving situation by controlling the device itself. When your employees, with smart phones, are driving and reach a threshold speed, the smart phone will go into lock mode. The appearance of the smart phone will change from the home screen to a screen displaying an unlock button. Without any further action, an employee may place or receive phone calls by using a Bluetooth device tethered to the smart phone. Should the employee choose to press the unlock button and violate corporate distracted driving policy, the incident will be reported to the management console.

Installation Steps 1. Download the Management Console to desktop or laptop computers 2. Set corporate distracted driving policy parameters to the Management Console 3. Download the smart phone application to handsets

Installing Pledge on a Blackberry Enterprise installation may be performed via corporate BES systems or the link may be ed or sent via text message to the handset. Pledge will operate on Blackberry handsets with software version 5.0 or higher. To install Pledge, access the browser on the Blackberry and enter the following URL: Check the box for setting permissions and insure that all permissions are set to Allow. Press the return button on the handset, save the permissions and the application will load. Grant the application trusted status. Note: Handsets running O/S 5 must be booted by removing and reinstalling the battery. The Blackberry is now ready to enable your organization to control distracted driving. Note: An icon for Associate Pledge will not appear on the handset.

Installing Pledge on Android Smart Phones Enterprise installation may be performed via corporate MDM systems or the link may be ed or sent via text message to the handset. Pledge will operate on Androids with operating system or higher. To install Pledge, access the browser on the Android and enter the following URL: Pledge will immediately download to the Downloads folder. Tap the Home button then tap Applications. Locate Downloads and Tap on Associate Pledge then Tap Install. Press Open and Pledge will begin operating. REBOOT THE DEVICE BY POWERING DOWN AND RESTARTING. To further protect your employees, disable the text message display on the status bar by selecting messaging>>file>>settings>>notifications and uncheck the box allowing display message notifications. The Android is now ready to enable your organization to control distracted driving.

User Experience When the GPS in the smart phone receives a signal from four or more satellites indicating movement, Pledge will lock the handset and begin recording incidents of distracted driving. When travelling above the threshold speed as specified by corporate policy, the device will display the lock screen. While the smartphone is locked, calls may be sent or received through the use of a Bluetooth headset or in car sync*. An audible warning is played when the handset enters lock mode; the audible warning will not play if the screen is dimmed. Touching unlock will display the unlock screen. If an employee elects to break corporate policy and use the handset, they must press the YES button and choose the time period that the smart phone will remain unlocked. Texts, and phone call transactions will be recorded to the management console along with the record of any unlocking of the handset. Should an employee select unlock and then choose NO, the device will return to locked mode. Calls initiated* or received while using a Bluetooth device by depressing the button on the earpiece (or other remote buttons such as on the steering wheel) will not be recorded as a breach of corporate distracted driving policy. If your employee is a passenger in a moving vehicle and needs to operate the handset, they would select the I am not driving button and use the smart phone as normal. Texts, and phone call transactions will be recorded to the management console along with the record of the unlocking of the handset with the notation of (I m Not Driving). The Emergency button will call 911 on a Blackberry device. On an Android device "911" is pre loaded into the dialer and the call button must be pressed to engage with emergency services. Support information is available, including video instruction on the PortNexus.com website. *Certain handset functions via Bluetooth are limited based on the brand of the Bluetooth headset or vehicle sync.

Installing Pledge Management Desktop Console Install the Associate Pledge Management Console on desktop and laptop computers by accessing the Internet Explorer browser and entering the following URL then saving it to your desktop or to favorites: Access the management console by clicking on the saved desktop icon or from Internet Explorer. When prompted, enter the User ID and Password, as provided by PortNexus, to the home screen and click Login.

Setting Corporate Distracted Driving Policy Criteria The criteria for your corporate distracted driving policy are entered to Pledge through the management console by clicking on the Update Your Organization's Settings bar. A page will appear where you can enter the threshold speed at which each smart phone will enter lock mode as well as the time that the smart phone must remain stationary before it unlocks. You may enter the unlock time intervals that your employee may choose when unlocking the handset (by selecting YES or Emergency/I am not Driving). Click Update Settings to complete the process.
