3 CITC: THE CONCEPT This unique facility is the engine that creates, refines, and drives UBC craftsmanship and productivity across North America A continent-wide hub for training delivery An R&D facility where relevant, standardized curriculum is developed Centers on a Train-the-Trainer (TTT) concept Core purpose is to enhance member skills: Technical Business Leadership

20 FOREMAN TRAINING For foremen there is Stepping up to UBC Foreman training material available for local training programs. This training addresses the following topics: Attitude Goals Planning Establishing authority Getting results Planning for Quality, Safety and Productivity Being confident and respected Dealing with special situations People skills Solving problems Checking progress Looking ahead

21 ADVANCED FOREMAN TRAINING This program is for UBC members who have worked as a foreman a minimum of nine months to one-year, and who the contractor thinks would benefit from the training. Topics covered in the program include: Scheduling and Sequencing Site Utilization and Stocking Trade Coordination Material Procurement and Management Prioritizing and Time Management Productivity and Profitability Measuring and Monitoring Productivity Paperwork and Recordkeeping Assessing Manpower Needs and Capabilities Setting Performance Expectations with the Crew Coaching and Motivating the Crew Problem Analysis and Solution Assessment

22 3 RD YEAR APPRENTICE PROGRAM Helping Build Our Industries: The 3rd Year Apprentice program is designed to give third year apprentices a better understanding of the Brotherhood and our industry, and the important part they and all members play in the success of both. The program includes: Discussion with one or more Officers The UBC: A 21st Century Union/Our Vision for the Future Understanding Our Industries and Our Contractors Taking Care of Our Contractors: Skill, Productivity, and Attitude Contractor Panel: Industry Insights, with Questions and Answers UBC History and Heritage A Spirit of Activism: What Can I Do? Mentoring Others Back Home

23 JOURNEYMAN TRAINING PROGRAM The UBC Journeymen Training Program is intended to focus on the "Heavy Hitters" in the field, those Journeymen who have the ability and willingness to influence others. The importance of gathering the top candidates for this program cannot be overstated. The General President has been clear that his intent is to get upwards of 10,000 journeymen through the program each year meaning each session is crucial in the overall program's long-term success. The participants for these sessions will be tasked with influencing those to follow, and without the right people we could potentially risk not being able to fulfill the long-term vision.

24 SUPERINTENDENT CAREER TRAINING The Carpenters International Training Fund's Superintendent Career Training (SCT) program is an 18-month classroom and on-the-job instructional program that prepares SCT participants to be highly skilled construction industry professionals. Through the use of mentors, company sponsored learning opportunities, and expert instruction from industry experienced professors of well-known universities, graduates of the SCT are equipped to oversee and manage productive work sites that keep projects on time and within budget.

38 TRAIN We have a Centralized Database System called TRAIN that contains information about members training history and JATC Programs. This program allows users to manage the training histories of members, instructor classes, track applicants and record Journeyman upgrade training. Every member s training and certification history follows them wherever they go. There are 3 ways a member s training is viewed: Local Program view Contractor view Training Verification Card (Member view)
