Engineering Notebook Description of course: This course covers the fundamentals of windows operating systems, other operating systems & technologies, security, software troubleshooting, and operational procedures. Students who complete this course will be able to describe the internal components of a computer and assemble a computer system (desktop or laptop), connect/configure a printer, and connect/configure a computer network. Objective of course: The primary objective of this course is to help students prepare for entry-level IT positions in a variety of working environments: Corporate or mobile environments with a high level of face-to-face client interaction. Job titles include enterprise technician, IT administrator, field service technician, and PC technician. Remote work environments with an emphasis on client interaction, client training, operating systems, and connectivity issues. Job titles include remote support technician, help desk technician, call center technician, IT specialist, and IT representative Settings with limited customer interaction where hardware-related activities are emphasized. Job titles include depot technician and bench technician. Enabling activities: Enabling activities include hands-on activities, demonstrations of disassembling & assembling computers, and building networks by connecting equipment as required. 3 Testing: Students must be ready for tests after each major objective. Quizzes will be announced and pop quizzes may be given at any time. Students are expected to not give to, nor receive information from others during testing. Any student caught cheating will be referred to the administrators and dealt with according to school policy. It is the goal of the Teacher to complete each unit on a Friday and test on the unit the following Tuesday. NO RETESTS WILL BE GIVEN. Students CANNOT EXEMPT the Final Exam. Course Information: Students will access all course materials online. Information will be provided during the first week of school on the system that will be used and the directions on accessing the course in and outside of class. The following information is provided via online: Daily Lesson Plans Class Assignments Assignment Worksheets Assignment Resources Quizlet Vocab Activities Review Activities Tests Make-up Work: NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED ONCE UNIT TEST HAS BEEN COMPLETED. If you are unable to complete the assignment in class, you are required to complete it at home (provided you have access to a computer and internet). You will be able to save all of your work to the GCS OneDrive. This will allow you to access all of your work anytime and anywhere you have computer/internet access. In addition, you will have access to Microsoft Office applications via your OneDrive account. In the event of a student absence, it is the responsibility of the student to view the applicable Daily Lesson Plan on GCS Canvas (can be accessed via NCEdCloud Applications) to determine the work missed. Absences are strongly discouraged in this class. A grade of zero will be given if a student does not turn work in on time. You are responsible to turn in any assignments missed during your absence within three days of coming back to school. Assignments/Grades: There will be a variety of assignments given throughout the semester. 4 Attendance: Class attendance is highly encouraged and will adversely affect your grade and/or put you into a No-Credit Status should you have excessive absences. This class is a technical class and we will be learning new concepts and skills during each lesson. For each day that you miss, you are getting behind about 3 days. Class time or Enrichment cannot be used to makeup work from when you were absent. Should you choose to not complete your assignment in class, then you will have to find other time, outside of class time and enrichment, to complete the work. Strive to be here every day and you will be successful. All students will be expected to make up work missed during absences. Students can refer to the daily lesson plans to determine the work that was missing during the absence. Remind Communication: Remind is a free, safe, and simple messaging tool that helps teachers share important updates and reminders with students and parents. I will be using Remind to broadcast important updates and schedule reminders to parents/students throughout the semester as needed.
