Welcome to A+ Computer Repair. I am very excited to have you in my class this semester and look forward to a lot of fun and learning together. Employment of computer support specialists is projected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations. More support services will be needed as organizations upgrade their computer equipment and software. You are exploring an awesome field! I hold over 28 years of Information Technology experience under roles such as systems analyst, computer programming, and systems engineer. I look forward to an enriching and challenging semester and am eager to work with each of you. Course Description: This course provides students with the knowledge to become industry certified as A PC technician. This course meets the specifications for two different industry certification programs. It prepares the student for the PC Pro certification and A+ certification (a nationally recognized standard administered through the CompTIA (Computing Technology Industry Association) that certifies a benchmark level of competency in the microcomputer industry. It has become one of the most sought-after computer certifications. Many computer retail and service companies are required to have A+ Certified personnel on staff. The following topics will be introduced: Session 1 (pc technician, system components, peripheral devices, storage, networking) Session 2 (printing, mobile devices, windows system management, system implementation, file management, security, and troubleshooting)

2 Students will also learn soft skills such as collaborating with a team and interacting with their peers to model real-life work environments as these skills are sought after in the job market. Students will participate in an in-depth study of servicing computers and peripheral devices. They will be expected to learn how to assemble and disassemble computers, install and use basic DOS commands, configure computer equipment, diagnose and troubleshoot problems, and implement a preventive maintenance program. A+ /Computer Repair is recommended for juniors and seniors. Prerequisite: Keyboarding AND Algebra I Grading Policy: 20% - Labs (online and hands-on) 20% - Written work (homework, classwork, and documentation) 20% - Tests 40% - Daily Attitude (effort, participation, productive use of time, interacting with others) Semester grades are calculated as follows: 40% - Quarter 1 40% - Quarter 2 20% - Exam Fees: (Note: The certification exams should not be attempted until A+ Computer Repair - 2 nd session has been completed) PC Pro test fee: free voucher for 1 attempt; $39.00 retake A+ test fee: $ however, I will be working with the district to gain a discount for all students. Grading Scale: DMTC follows the South Carolina Uniform Grading Policy. The grading scale is as follows: A = (Passing - exceeds expectations) B = (Passing - meets expectations) C = (Passing but did not meet some standards) D = (Passing but met only minimal standards) F = 69 and below (Failing does not meet minimum standards) Required Supplies: inch 3 ring binder filled with notebook paper - Dividers for notebook (5 tabs) - Black pen, # 2 pencil

3 - Yellow highlighter, Orange highlighter - A set of headphones or earbuds Training Materials: - TESTOUT.com will be the main source of training for this course - Supplemental material may be used as deemed necessary - "Hands On" training using older equipment Students are EXPECTED to: - Be on time (must report to office to get a tardy slip if late. Late is defined as "the office has announced that all SHS/BHS students should be in their class now" - no exceptions) - Prepare yourself for class upon entering the classroom (take your seat, sharpen pencils, retrieve supplies, etc.) - Have a positive attitude - Raise hand and wait to be acknowledged before speaking when together as a group (unless I have specifically asked for everyone to "call out" ideas). - Be respectful to teachers and peers - Handle mobile items with responsibility (Phones and tablets are allowed for class related activities only) (if using for any activity other than class related, you will need to place your device in the holding area until the class is over. If mobile device responsibility continues to be an issue within the classroom, "procedures followed if expectations not met for student conduct" will apply. - Handle all equipment in a SAFE fashion - Follow directions - Listen closely - Properly groom daily - Assist in cleaning room and work area - Leave food/drink in your car or place in trash before entering DMTC - wait for my dismissal of the class before leaving the classroom (note: the bell DOES NOT dismiss the class) - Control your tongue and speak in a professional manner (profanity is an example of unprofessional speech) - Do your best! - Ask for help if you need it - Remain in seat or assigned area - Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself - Ask for and receive permission before leaving the room

4 Procedures followed if EXPECTATIONS not met for student conduct: 1 st offense verbal warning issued 2 nd offense better choices form sent with a call to parent 3 rd offense detention at DMTC - your classroom (note: if detention missed, 4th offense procedure will be followed) 4 th offense - referred to administration (Note: POLICIES FOR MAJOR INFRACTIONS WIL BE FOLLOWED AS STATED IN THE DMTC HANDBOOK) What you can expect from me: - I will do my best to provide a stimulating learning environment - I will be learning the A+ curriculum alongside you - I will provide support and assistance to you - I will be your biggest cheerleader - I will provide a fair and equal opportunity classroom environment - I will be on time - I will be prepared - I will treat you with respect - I will surprise you at times with activities to keep the classroom fun and refreshing - I will provide feedback and grade within 2 days of the assignment due date - I will reach out to all parents to foster a teamwork effort between the home and classroom - I will provide a collaborative environment where all students are encouraged to research and educate. - I will encourage you to reach for your next level of challenge always.
