1 About the Authors 235 About the Authors Book Editor Mario Piattini received M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the Madrid Politechnical University (Spain). CISA (Certified Information System Auditor) by the ISACA (Information System Audit and Control Association). He is currently an associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Castilla-La Mancha (Ciudad Real), where he leads the ALARCOS Research Group. His research interests include software engineering, databases, IT auditing and software maintenance. He has published numerous articles and books in these areas and has co-edited a book on Advanced Databases (Artech House). Previously, he was an assistant professor at the Complutense University and University Carlos III of Madrid. He has founded and worked as Director of Cronos Iberica, S.A. and ESINET, s.l. Chapter Authors Pedro Pablo Alarcón Cavero holds the position of Associate Professor in Madrid Technical University (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid), School of Informatics. He has been director of the Department of Organización y Estructura de la Información and Vice-director of the School of Informatics. He has taught algorithms and programming techniques. At present he is involved in subjects such as databases, database Copyright 2000, Idea Group Publishing.

His research interest is databases. Juan Garbajosa has an appointment as Associate Professor in Madrid Technical University, the Department of Organización y Estructura de la Información. He teaches several subjects in Databases and Software Engineering. His research interests include tools to support specific processes, such as system testing, deployment of advanced databases, and standards development and implementation. He is active at ISO/IEC JTC1 SC7 (Software Engineering) and the IEEE Standards Association. Before that he worked in industry for over 15 years, both in business and aerospace computing fields. He holds a PhD in Computer Science and an MsC in Chemistry. Coral Calero received a B.S. degree in computer science from University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain in She received the M.S. degree in computer science from University of Sevilla, Spain in At the present time, she is assistant professor of Languages and Computer Systems from Computer Science Faculty, Ciudad Real, Spain. She is currently a doctoral candidate in the Department of Computer Science, University of Castilla- La Mancha. Her research interests include databases, metrics and object-oriented software. She is member of the Alarcos research group, specialising n software engineering and databases. Miguel Ángel Davara Fernández de Marcos has been a lawyer since 1995, specializing in information and telecommunication technology and law. Nowadays, he is a professor of law and computer science at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas de Madrid (ICADE). Between 1995 and 1998 he taught eight courses about the usage of some of the most popular software and has given some talks about the legal aspects of information technology audit, the Data Protection Security legislation, legal problems of the Internet, telecommunications legal framework,

3 About the Authors 237 and the domain names and the intellectual property rights. He has also published articles about domain names and the intellectual property rights. He has developed one hypertext program which contains the Spanish Data Protection legislation and its actualization, and another hypertext program which contains the more important Spanish telecommunication legislation. Jane Fedorowicz holds the Rae D. Anderson Chair in Accountancy and Information Systems at Bentley College where she is teaching accounting and information systems courses. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Systems Sciences from Carnegie-Mellon University. She has previously taught at Carnegie-Mellon University, Northwestern University, Boston University and the University of Massachusetts at Boston. Professor Fedorowicz currently serves on the editorial boards of Information Systems Research, the e-journal Communications of the Association for Information Systems and the Review of Accounting Information Systems. Her primary research interests involve the impact of information technologies on individuals and organizations, especially enterprise information systems and object oriented technologies. She has published in Decision Sciences, Journal of Management Information Systems, Information and Management, ACM Transactions on Database Systems, Communications of the ACM, International Journal of Technology Management, Decision Support Systems, and many other venues. She is a frequent speaker for research and practitioner groups. Ulric J. (Joe) Gelinas, Jr., Ph.D., is Associate Professor of Accountancy at Bentley College, Waltham, Massachusetts, USA. He is co-author of Accounting Information Systems, 4th ed. and Accountant s Guide to Accounting Information Systems and he was the founding editor of the Journal of Accounting and Computers. He participated in the COBIT Expert Review-USA and has conducted COBIT Implementation workshops in the US, Canada, and Europe. He participated in the development of the 2 nd edition of COBIT by authoring portions of the Implementation Tool Set. He has published articles in the IS Audit & Control Journal, Technical Communications Quarterly, Transactions on

He has made presentations at the regional, national, and international meetings of the American Accounting Association, the Information Systems Audit and Control Association, and several other organizations. Bart van Lodensteijn, CISA. is an IS Auditor and Consultant for CALS, Computer Aided Logistics S.L, Madrid and specializes in CAATs, IS Security, Logistic Systems and Supply Chain Design. He received a degree in business administration in 1994 and in the same year he received a post academic degree (in the Netherlands Post-HBO) in EDP Auditing. He has nine years experience in IT and quality topics. His experience covers: controlling and auditing several IT implementations, ISO 9001 and 9002 certification concerning IT (information needs obtained and evaluated and tuned on ISO norms), developing and executing IT-plans and strategies, control, risk and contingency frameworks, monitoring IT projects of employee benefits and financial planning products. Financial administration auditing, control objects created for the salary administration and the general ledger, designing control objects in an insurance system, creating contingency and risk plans, auditing and evaluating Prolongation and Creditors administration. Josè Luis Lucero Manresa is a Managing Partner of IEE - Inform ticos Europeos Expertos, a company dedicated to the computer consultancy, formation,development, auditing, etc. He has more than 26 years of experience in computer science, as a consultant and previously as Director of Development of Computer Science and as directive in other areas, in the REPSOL Group. He has experience in big international projects (UN, UE) in Ecuador (Ministry of External Relationships), Uruguay, Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay (MERCOSUR). Prior to this, he was responsible for the area of organization and methods during three years. He is a member of various professional organizations, including the Directive Board of the Association of Doctors, Graduates and Engineers in Computer Science (ALI), the Society of Statistic and Operative Research (SEIO), Spanish Association

Macario Polo received a B.S. degree in computer science from University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain in He received a M.S. degree in computer science from University of Sevilla, Spain in At the present time, he is assistant professor of Languages and Computer Systems from Computer Science Faculty, Ciudad Real, Spain. Rodero: M.Sc. in Computer Science from Málaga University (Spain). Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Computer Science, Murcia University (Spain). He is an application analyst at the Ayuntamiento de Murcia and assistant professor at Murcia University and lecturer at Murcia Catholic University. Previously he had worked for other private (Alcatel, Inforges, IBM) and public (Ministery of Defense) organizations. He has participated in several national and international conferences. He is Dean of the Colegio Profesional de Ingenieros en Informática of Murcia and vice president of the Federación Nacional de Asociaciones de Ingenieros en Informática (AII). His research interests include Information Systems auditing and datawarehouses. Arturo Ribagorda Garnacho has a M.Sc. degree in telecommunications and Ph.D in Computer Science from Politècnica University of Madrid. Currently he is Full Professor and Head of the Computer Science Department in the Carlos III University of

6 240 About the Authors Madrid. His academic tasks are focus on the IT security, a field where he contributes to several research projects, nationally and in Europe. He has published more than 40 papers in national and international journals, has lectured in numerous congresses and has written four books. Furthermore, he is a European Research Program evaluator (Advanced Transport Telematics y ESPRIT) and CICYT (National Spanish Research Institution) evaluator. He has been an advisor on the same subject for the UNESCO and the UE Spanish office. At present he is a member of the Council on Data Protection of the Madrid Community, elected as Expert on the subject. Rafael Rodriguez de Cora holds a bachelor degree in Computer Sciences. He is now General Manager of CALS (Computer Aided Logistics, S.L.), a company having products and services which offer solutions about Information Security, Logistics, and Transportation. He has worked for Arthur Andersen and Price Waterhouse Coopers, where he was involved in information system auditing for big Spanish corporations. He has designed and given information system audit training courses and seminars, such as: Seminar sponsored by the Instituto de Auditores Internos (Internal Auditors Institute) on Auditing Information Systems; Coordinator and Teacher of various seminars for Information Systems Auditing for the Contraloría General de la República de Panamá (Project PII/UNESCO); Teacher and coordinator of the module Computers and Management. Course for Human Resources Management held in Fundación ONCE - European Social Fund; Design and development of How to introduce computers and Information Systems in your company - Training Institute of the Comunidad de Madrid; teacher of the modules Auditoría y Seguridad Informática in the Master Program of IDE-CESEM; from 1996 until 1998 he was the President of O.A.I. Francisco Ruiz received a M.S. degree in sciences from Madrid University (Universidad Complutense), Spain in He has worked as analyst since 1983 for different companies, and as Head of Computer Services at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Spain. At the present time, he is associate professor of Languages and Computer Systems, and he is Dean of the Computer Science Faculty, Ciudad Real, Spain. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the Department of Computer Science, University of Castilla-La Mancha. His research interests include software maintenance, project management, auditing and metrics. He is member of the Alarcos research group, specialising on software engineering and databases. José M. Sierra Cámara is M.Sc. degree in Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence and he has finished Postgraduate Studies on Information Technologies Security. Currently he is a lecturer assistant at Carlos III University of Madrid where belongs to the ICT security laboratory. His academic tasks focus on the ICT security, a field where he has participated in several research projects, nationally and in Europe. He has published more than 15 papers in congresses and journals. Finally, he is about to finish his Ph.D. Thesis on the security of the Internet new framework (IPv6).
