27 Examination Regulations The examination regulations (Prüfungsordnung) state your rights and duties as a student of Business Informatics at our university: You can find them here in German and (soon) in English: Student Services Office: Examination Regulations 27
28 Examination Affairs The examination board of the Faculty of Business Informatics is the authority in regulating examination modalities The Student Services Office implements those regulations and is the first choice of contact for most examination affairs. 28

31 Exam Registration Attention: Earlier exam registration period for Business Administration fundamental courses and Information Systems (IS) courses Exams for fundamental courses in Computer Science (CS) and Information Extraction (IE) can be registered either for the first or the second round of examinations. 31
32 Withdrawal from Exam Registrations Different withdrawal modalities and deadlines for Written exams that have an official examination date listed on the webpages of the Student Services office Oral exams Seminars Team projects 32
33 Withdrawal from a Written Exam Withdrawal from a module with a written exam: At most 2 days prior to the exam you can withdraw from an exam registration without any repercussion. You can only withdraw from a module if no in-class exams or assessments have been taken or are not currently being taken. Student Services Office: Exam withdrawal Attention: Please note that for the most exams in the master programs, you have to use the form Application for withdrawal from modules in master's programs from here: Student Services Office: Applications forms 33
34 Withdrawal from an Oral Exam Withdrawal from modules with an oral exam: Modules with oral exams can only be withdrawn up to a certain deadline (approximately 2 weeks prior to the exam period). For the deadline of the current semester, see Student Services Office : Change in Registration Also here: You can only withdraw from a module if no other inclass exams or assessments have been taken or are not currently being taken. 34
35 Withdrawal from a Seminar Withdrawal from a seminar: If you have officially applied and received a topic from the seminar s lecturer, then you are registered for the examination. As soon as the lecturer of the seminar forwards this registrations to the Student Services office you can not withdraw any more. 35
36 Withdrawal from a Team Project Withdrawal from a team project: If you have applied and have been accepted for a team project, then you are registered for the examination. You can withdraw from the team project within 3 weeks for a 6 month team project 6 weeks for a 12 month team project To withdraw from the team project you have to inform: 1. Your supervisor 2. Birgit Czanderle -> They will inform the Student Services Office 36
37 Module Commitment Once the period for withdrawal of registrations has passed and you are registered for the exam of a module you are committed to pass this module. 37
38 Resits (Retaking an Exam) If you fail an exam, you will be registered automatically by the Student Services Office for the next possible examination date! You can resit every exam ONCE If you fail an exam twice you cannot attempt it anymore. If you failed too many exams to fullfill the required ECTS for fundamentals, projects and seminars or the Master s thesis, then you have failed the Master s examination. 38
39 Exam Registration If you do not appear for the exam without a valid reason -> You will fail the exam (Grade 5.0) If you fall ill and cannot take an exam: Immediatly go to a doctor or hospital and get a doctors note ( Attest ) documenting the illness preventing you from taking the exam Hand in the certificate to the Student Services immediately In case of oral exams, seminars and projects or the Masters s Thesis: Inform your supervisor immediately If you fail to do so: You will fail the exam (Grade 5.0) 39

41 Team Project, Seminar, Master Thesis 3 milestones during your studies that involve Literature research Programming Writing Practice those skills from early on If you know that your programming skills are not solid, start practicing/learning now If you cannot contribute to a team project, it is very likely that you will not get a passing grade If you have no programming skills it will be very difficult for you to find a Master s Thesis topic 41
42 Plagiarism Plagiarism is when you copy someone else s work and do not give credit by referencing the source of the content This applies to: Images Text Content structure Code We take this matter very serious You can fail the team project, the seminar or the Master s Thesis because of this 42
43 Master s Thesis 6 Months It is not recommended to have other exams during this period. Every chair has requirements that you have to fullfill to be considered as an applicant for a thesis at this chair. You will find a list of required lectures and skills on the web pages of the examination board. 43
44 Master s Thesis How to find a supervisor and a topic: Learn about relevant topics for a thesis in the lectures and seminars Ask the people giving those courses about possible topics Look at our websites for published lists of possible topics Create your own idea Start at the end of the 2 nd semester to find a supervisor and a topic! 44
