2 Registration VECAT classroom courses are now open for sign up on the Germanna Community College website (GCC) classroom courses will be held at the following Virginia Community College locations: Germanna CC campus, Germanna CC Culpeper campus, Paul D. Camp CC (Suffolk, VA), Virginia Western CC (Daleville, VA) and Virginia Tech Transportation Institute - Roanoke, VA (Mix Design class). Registration for all VECAT courses must be completed online at Credit card information must be provided at the time of registration. Important Information: Class size is limited to 25 individuals per location, so make sure to register early to ensure a seat. Enrollment of students must be completed one student at a time (if there are multiple student needing enrollment) so that a unique Germanna ID can be assigned to each student. This ID will be used to access the courses on Germanna s Blackboard system. To make the sign up process easier, companies can provide Germanna with credit card information to keep on file so that a credit card does not need to be in hand every time a student is enrolled. To set this auto payment option up, please contact Susan Brown at Germanna at for further information. If you have additional questions about the course registration process or testing procedures, contact Judith Calvert at Germanna at (540) For all other questions, contact Carter Iseman, VAA Director of Training and Development at ciseman@vaasphalt. com or UTILIZING WORKFORCE CREDENTIAL GRANT (WCG) FUNDS The WCG program was launched to ensure that workforce credentials are accessible and affordable for Virginians seeking the skills they need to obtain good paying jobs in high demand fields. The WCG program is currently unavailable for the 2018 class year. CERTIFICATION EXPIRATION Beginning in 2018, all VDOT materials certifications will have an Active lifecycle of five (5) years. At the end of this timeframe, the certification will become expired and its holder will be required to complete the same requirements as for a new certification to re-activate the certification. This includes the full course (classroom or online options are open to individual choice and/or availability), written exam, applicable proficiency exams and any prerequisite certifications. Please note that pre-requisite courses for a higher-level course (i.e. Plant I and II for Mix Design) do not need to be completed prior to that course if those certifications are active. This means that you do not need to take Plant I or II before taking Mix Design if your Mix Design certification is coming due but your Plant I and II certifications are still active. PROFICIENCY TESTING Beginning in 2018, all proficiency testing will be managed by Germanna Community College. See below for course locations, dates and fees. Contact Judith Calvert at (540) to schedule a time and location for any proficiency testing that is required. 3 Registration (continued) TESTING ELIGIBILITY Students will be allowed a total of 2 attempts within a calendar year (2 attempts at written exam, 2 attempts at proficiency test if applicable) to successfully pass the requirements to obtain a desired certification. If the student is not successful within these two attempts, he/she is no longer eligible for that certification within that calendar year and must wait until the next calendar year to be eligible to try again. CLASSROOM POLICIES A valid Photo ID must be presented to take all examinations. These certification courses are not introductory programs. It is ad vised that applicants have some knowledge of road construction practices. Applicants must have basic reading compre hension skills as well as knowledge of basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Due to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), a Federal law protecting the privacy of student education records, grades may only be released to the attendee of the certification course regardless of the payer. Additionally, a release form must be signed by the attendee giving Germanna CC permission to release the grades to VDOT for display in the VDOTU system. CLASS CANCELLATION POLICY Class will be held at its scheduled location unless fewer than fifteen (15) students have registered. If this is the case, Germanna will notify affected students and class will be moved to one of Germanna s home campuses ( either /Culpeper Campus or FredCAT/ Fredericksburg). Germanna maintains the right to cancel a class if registration numbers do not support holding the class.
