TransPacket s unique and patented Fusion Networking is designed for increasing operator revenues. TransPacket Fusion Networking Fusion networking is invented with the purpose of increasing operator revenues and competitiveness. The unique and patented Fusion networking technique enables a new level of utilization of the infrastructure with an uncompromised Quality of Service. Fusion networking enables operators to increase the throughput on their existing infrastructure to a new level. The Quality of Service level offered by Fusion networking enables operators to launch a new set of services with best-in-market latency characteristics and zero packet loss. Latency is known as the most critical parameter for services like mobile backhaul, high-frequency trading, storage-area networking, video-conferencing, video-broadcast etc. Fusion networking combines the best from packet switching and circuit switching in a unique way. Circuit switching is known for its Quality of Service enabling zero packet loss and low predictable latency. Packet switching is known for high throughput efficiency as its biggest strength. Fusion networking combines these properties into a fully Ethernet compliant network without the use of legacy circuit-switching techniques. The combination of the properties enabled across the network is unique in the market: High throughput, zero packet loss, ultra-low latency and latency variation. TransPacket H1 Fusion networking product H1 addresses the increasing demand for increased operator revenues through high capacity and high quality optical network transport services, dynamic networking and management simplicity. TransPacket s H1 allows Ethernet connections with ultra-low latency, ultra-low latency variation and zero packet loss, a Quality of Service level known from wavelength transport. We call this a wavelength-grade Quality of Service (QoS), a highly appreciated property allowing operators to offer services for transport of e.g. synchronization information (IEEE1588), high-quality video and high-frequency trading. Additionally, the high capacity utilization and cost-efficiency known from packet switching is achieved using statistical multiplexing when aggregating traffic on top of traffic following circuits. When inserting the extra traffic, packet loss and delay characteristics of traffic following the circuit is not impacted in any way. Adding an optical module allowing wavelength multiplexing or wavelength add/drop, a powerful packet optical solution within a compact 1U chassis. This makes H1 a problem-solver for operators realizing ring-based 10 Gigabit Ethernet WDM infrastructures as well as powerful point-to-point transport solutions. 10GE 1GE Optional module e.g. WDM MUX TransPacket Fusion H1 Features: Increased revenue on your fibre infrastructure by means of the Fusion network principle New service offerings through market leading delay characteristics Compact and cost-effective aggregation of 1GE client signals into 10GE line signal Gigabit transparent Ethernet line channels with ultra-low latency and latency variation Configurable Add-Drop function Allows switch/router bypass, unique packet granularity on adddrop or bypass connections Ultra-low latency variation (PDV) for e.g. mobile backhaul services Ultra-low latency for missioncritical applications: Videoservices, high frequency trading etc. Zero packet loss Deep buffers (up to 200 ms) for statistical multiplexed aggregation, handling bursty traffic patterns Future proof QoS handling existing and future services Cost-effective and energy-aware network design lowering Total Cost of Ownership 1U solution for small footprint and cost optimization Remote in-band, or out-of-band management

Wavelength service solution Fusion networking: A unique chance for carriers to increase network bandwidth utilization SM Statistical multiplexing Add up to ten ekstra connections! GST Guaranteed Service Transport Using TransPacket s Fusion networking, operators can add more traffic on Ethernet lines without any impact on the Quality of Service. The value of the extra bandwidth utilization typically enables payback on equipment investments within 1-2 months. TransPacket Fusion networking allows as the only technology in the market, simultaneous QoS at the level of a wavelength and efficient bandwidth utilization of the fibre. Extra traffic can be aggregated on top of a 10 Gb/s Ethernet wavelength using statistical multiplexing known from packet switching. This can be done without adding packet delay variation and packet loss to the traffic following the wavelength. If traffic in a wavelength is switched through a router or Ethernet switch, packet delay variation is always imposed on the traffic whenever extra traffic is aggregated onto the wavelength. Typically also delay in the order of 10 s of microseconds or even milliseconds is added, and if congestion occurs, packets may be lost. Fusion networking completely avoids this problem, and offers additional benefits like e.g. connections with full isolation and privacy. Illustration of the uniqueness of the Fusion networking technology. Add traffic to a 10 GE wavelength without impact on the wavelengthperformance.

Fusion H1 solution Aggregation services using Fusion H1 technology Operators can use the H1 for aggregation, enabling efficient sharing of the capacity on many users. This is illustrated in figure 2. The Fusion technology allows unique bandwidth utilization without compromising QoS. The efficient sharing of capacity and tolerance to bursty traffic patterns is enabled through a buffering capacity normally only found in high-end routers. WDM-PON Passive optical network aggregation of 9 gigabit Ethernet. WDM C2 CWDM MUX 10GE Passive optical aggregation: A passive optical WDM based aggregation network (WDM-PON) with wavelength-grade QoS on GE connections can be realized using an embedded CWDM MUX/DMUX module (C2) in H1. This enables a very compact 1U sized packet-optical aggregation unit. In figure 2, the passive WDM based aggregation network applies two passive WDM MUX/DMUX units (TransPacket C1) for each optical add/drop node. At each node, up to nine wavelengths (GE connections) can be add/dropped. H1 then delivers the nine aggregated GE connections (wavelengths) into a 10 GE network connection. Figure 2: Aggregation of 9 Gigabit Ethernet (GE) wavelengths using a H1 with a built-in C2 CWDM MUX/ DMUX module. Active aggregation: GE connections can be aggregated with wavelength-grade QoS (fixed delay and zero packet loss) into a 10 GE network connection. Several H1 s may be stacked, allowing additional statistically multiplexed aggregation of ten GE connections for each H1. Highly bursty traffic patterns and efficient capacity sharing are tolerated because of the 200 ms deep buffers on the GE interfaces of H1. Cost and QoS optimizing the network using Fusion H1 networking for router bypass Operators are struggling with an increasing demand for bandwidth to be met within the same budget of cost. Bypassing expensive routers using TransPacket s Fusion technology is the most cost-effective method for upgrading network capacity, and is performed without compromising QoS. Fusion networking is the only solution in the market that enables router bypass with QoS known from wavelengths, but with the granularity and bandwidth utilization known from packet switching. This is unique compared to both wavelength, SDH/SONET and OTN based router bypass which are circuit switched techniques without the high bandwidth utilization benefit achieved in Fusion. Figure 3: illustration of packet-granularity bypass between 10GE interfaces. The QoS is as for wavelengths.

Fusion H1 solution Mobile backhaul with Fusion H1 technology C1 A mobile backhaul must be able to transport both bandwidth demanding and QoS demanding services in a cost efficient way. A wide range of services must be efficiently supported, ranging from the most demanding synchronization signals and bandwidth greedy video signals to best effort types of data like e.g. . H1 is the most cost-efficient solution for supporting this. Fusion networking supports even the most demanding services through a QoS at the level of a wavelength. Time-stamped IEEE1588 packets are transparently tunneled through the network with a packet delay variation of less than 50 ns for each node. In difference from other techniques in the market, Fusion networking allows the timing accurate transport to be combined with the high bandwidth utilization of packet switched systems. Additionally, H1 supports SyncE for distribution of frequency synchronization. These unique combinations put out Fusion networking as the number one candidate for mobile backhaul networks. Figure 4: Mobile backhaul network using H1 for transport and aggregation of GE signals. Multi service network using Fusion H1 technology Operators are facing a demand for supporting an increasing number of services with a great variety of requirements. The requirements range from the most QoS and latency sensitive services, like e.g. high-speed trading, to services where aggregation of many subscribers into a limited bandwidth becomes important. Fusion networking offers a best in market ability of efficient transport of all services, both current and future services. Through the unique QoS properties, even the most QoS demanding service with respect to latency and packet loss, as well as synchronization is supported. Highly cost-efficient networks are enabled by allowing efficient (statistical multiplexed) aggregation of data on top of QoS demanding connections without any impact to the QoS of the data. Additionally, by using H1 as an integrated packet-optical solution in the network rather than separate routers and optical nodes, a higher cost-efficiency and a higher quality on the transport is achieved. Rather than using several small routers for aggregation and transport in the network, a router can be applied at a central aggregation point in combination with H1-units in the network for aggregation and transport purposes. Figure 5: All services are efficiently supported using Fusion networking. H1 allows efficient aggregation, QoS at the level of wavelength transport and optical multiplexing within a single 1U chassis.

Fusion networking principle Fusion networking principle Imagine putting up a direct train between two cities with no intermediate stops along the track. The direct train represents the properties of a circuit: Minimum latency, a minimum of variation in delay, and no packet loss. Once the passengers have entered the train, they are guaranteed a seat all the way to the destination, however if there are only few passengers travelling between these destinations, the capacity will not be efficiently utilized. Then imagine a train stopping at every intermediate station. At all stations, the passengers at the train need to leave the train and queue up at the station together with the passengers waiting at the station before all passengers enter the train together. This principle is an analogy to a packet switched network, enabling aggregation and high throughput through statistical multiplexing, but on the cost of lost packets, high latency and high delay variations. Then it is the Fusion network approach. Again imagine the direct train running between two main stations without stopping or slowing at intermediate stations. In the Fusion network, second class passengers are queuing at intermediate stations and are entering and exiting the train while in speed. This represents the Fusion network, with the best from packet and circuit networks: No packet loss, minimum latency and a minimum of delay variation for the circuit (direct passengers), and the packet networks efficient aggregation and utilization through statistical multiplexing for the second class packets. TransPacket Fusion H1 management One of the challenges today is to support new services that are developed in shorter and shorter timeframes. Service levels must be guaranteed through Service Level Agreements across multiple technologies and multiple networks. To handle these challenges the industry needs standardized management Interfaces enabling integration of multiple technologies and vendors within one management system. You can easily access and manage Fusion H1 directly by a simple and intuitive Command Line Interface (CLI) based on industry standards. Further, a web-based Graphical User Interface can be used. Or you can have the full access to management and monitoring In-band or Out-of-band, everything based on the IETF standardized Netconf (XML) and SNMP. Due to our open/standardized interface & protocol philosophy, the integration towards existing management systems is made simple. EMS / NMS Terminal MANAGER Management Interfaces Netconf.
