3 OPERATION PA-SIP Paging Switch is designed to Connect a Paging Amplifier to an IP based PBX (Local or Cloud). Once installed, PA-SIP provides you with the capability to make a Paging Call from any extension of your PBX PA-SIP connects to any Network Connection Point, or it can also be connected direct to a Network Switch or Modem-Router. Once installed you can then : 1. DIAL AN EXTENSION NUMBER To make a paging call, the user need only dial the telephone extension number that PA-SIP is connected to. PA-SIP answers after 1 Ring and produces a short beep. 2. MAKE YOUR ANNOUNCEMENT PA-SIP will generate a short beep before connecting the caller to the attached paging amplifier. The caller can then make a paging announcement and hang up. 3. HANG UP PA-SIP has a hang up tone detection circuit which will then terminate the call after the detection of 2 or 3 US hang up tones. PA-SIP will then be ready to take another paging call. PA-SIP is calibrated to detect US Specification Hang Up tones. If you are in the UK, Australia, New Zealand or another country that uses a UK specification, you should order PA-SIP (UK), which is calibrated for UK Tones. If your PBX telephone system cannot output US Specification Hang Up tones, then PA-SIP can terminate a call after any one of the following other conditions takes place: 1) By pressing any TOUCH TONE digit (0-9) after the announcement. 2) After a fixed period of time (set by the user). 4 INSTALLATION OVERVIEW PA-SIP : IP Network Connection PA-SIP can be connected to ANY Point on a Local Area or Wide Area Network, such as : * Any Internal Network Point of a LAN * Direct to a Network Switch * Direct to a Network Modem used for LAN or WAN Once connected, PA-SIP will connect to the Network via DHCP A Windows based program (called Natcomm SIP Controller) is supplied with your PA-SIP unit. This program is designed for use on a Windows based PC on your same network (Windows 7 or later). Install the program by double clicking the file : Natcomm_SIP_Controller.exe The program will install and a Natcomm Icon will be installed on the desktop. Double Click the Icon to open the program. Once the program has loaded, Click the Icon that says : Click for IP Address After a short delay, the program will then display the IP Address, Gateway Address and Subnet Mask of PA-SIP. It will then allow you to Enter the : Extension Number Username and Password (if used) that has been assigned by the PBX administrator for PA-SIP. Page 4 Natcomm

5 PA-SIP : IP Network Connection 1. Using the supplied CAT5 cable connect the NETWORK port of PA-SIP Switch to your Internet Network, at a convenient Network Point or direct to a Switch or Modem-Router. 2. Connect the Supplied Power Adaptor (12VDC, 2A Center Positive) TURN ON Power to PA-SIP Note : DO NOT use an alternative Power Adaptor, as doing so may damage PA-SIP. Call NATCOMM USA on ph (800) for further information. 3. Install the supplied Natcomm_SIP_Controller.exe As described on page 4 and enter the Extension Number and the optional Username and Password that has been set up for PA-SIP. 4. You can also quickly and easily change the following parameters if necessary The Port Number (if different to the default port number 5060) A Different Audio Codec (if different to the default codecs) Set up a to Static IP address If the PBX Network Administrator may advise you to change from a DHCP connection (default) to a Static IP Connection. You should overwrite the following displayed paramters : IP Address Gateway Address Subnet Mask If you are connected to a WAN and it requires a Host Name and Domain name, then you can also enter these details here : Enter DNS Domain Name Server Enter Host Name Enter Domain Name Should more advanced settings be required, they can be accessed via the advanced settings option. This area is restricted by a password as there are a large number of settings and parameters that can be changed, which might affect the operation of PA-SIP. If you must access advanced settings of the SIP connection, call NATCOMM USA on (800) for the password. Natcomm Page 5

6 PA-SIP : Paging Amplifier Connection PA-SIP is connected to the Paging Amplifier via a supplier RCA connection cable which has an integrated Safety Isolation Transformer. 1. Use the supplied cable with the RCA plug to connect the Paging Amplifier port of PA-SIP to the RCA input of your Paging Amplifier. This cable incorporates an integrated Line Isolation Safety Transformer (SAFETY TRANSFORMER ). Connect the SYSTEM port of the SAFETY TRANSFORMER to the PA SYSTEM port of the PA-SIP Switch, using the supplied RJ11 to RJ45 telephone cable. Connect the SOURCE port of the SAFETY TRANSFORMER to the Line In or Auxiliary Input of the Amplifier, using the supplied RCA cable.. 2. Switch your Amplifier ON. 3. Call the PA-SIP units Extension Number (Phone Number) to make a test Paging Call Adjust the PA volume to suit with the Amplifier Volume control. Note: You only have 30 seconds to do this before PA-SIP hangs Up. 4. Hang Up. Note : If PA-SIP does not terminate the paging call soon after you have hung up, then your Telephone System is not outputting US specification Hang Up tones and you should program it to do so (see page 6), or use one of the other call termination methods described (see page 7). 5. You can now change any of the User Programming capabilities of PA-SIP Switch to suit individual requirements Two separate User Programmable parameters are provided. In most cases you will not need to change any of these parameters. Page 6 Natcomm

8 CALL TERMINATION OPTIONS A paging call be terminated in any one of 3 ways: 1. UPON DETECTION OF HANG UP TONES PA-SIP is pre-programmed to automatically HANG UP the paging call after the detection of 2 US Specification Hang Up tones. PA-SIP is calibrated to look for US specification Hang Up tones (see page 6). You can change the detection parameters or disable this facility (refer pages 9-11). Note : PA-SIP is also available with a UK specification Hang Up Tone detector. Part Number : PA-SIP (UK) 2. BY THE USER PRESSING ANY TOUCH TONE (0-9) The person making the Paging Call can terminate the paging call by pressing ANY Touch Tone number (0-9) on their telephone keypad at the completion of their announcement. # and * cannot be used to terminate a call. 3. AFTER A FIXED PERIOD OF TIME PA-SIP will automatically terminate a paging call after a programmable length of time. The default connection time for PA-SIP is : 30 seconds. This is a handy back up in case any of the above methods fails to take place. Page 8 Natcomm

9 RCA connection cable With integrated Safety Isolation Transformer PA-SIP is supplied with a RCA connection cable which has an integrated Safety Isolation Transformer It is designed to : Prevent surges from an Amplifier Damaging your Telephone Equipment. Prevent any possibility of 120VAC (or 240v) Power connecting to your Telephone Equipment should there be a major malfunction of your Amplifier device. PA-SIP is designed to operate when the supplied RCA connection cable is connected. The SYSTEM port of the Safety Transformer has a modular (RJ11 6 pin) connector which must connect to the PA SYSTEM Port of PA-SIP Switch, using the supplied RJ11 to RJ45 cable. The SOURCE port of the SAFETY TRANSFORMER has a modular (RJ 4 pin) connector which should connect to the Public Address device, using the supplied RCA Audio cable. Natcomm Page 9

10 PROGRAMMING OPTIONS PA-SIP Switch provides for TWO User Programmable settings. In most cases you will not need to program PA-SIP, as the default settings are likely to be suitable for typical sites. 1. The Maximum Duration Time of a Paging Call You can set a fixed CALL TIME in seconds at which time PA-SIP will HANG UP if the Paging Call is not already terminated. Allowable Range : 01 to 99 Default Setting is : 30 seconds In programming Mode, Press : #1xx Where xx = number of seconds and can be (for example, press #145 for 45 seconds) 2. The Hang Up Tone Detection Delay You change the Delay before the start of Hang Up Tone detection for seconds after the paging call is answered. Allowable Range : 05 to 99 Default Setting is : 5 seconds In programming Mode, Press : #2xx Where xx = number of seconds and can be (for example, press #210 for 10 seconds) Page 10 Natcomm

11 PROGRAMMING PROCEDURE Should you need to program PA-SIP, please follow the procedure below : 1) Call the Extension Number to which PA-SIP switch is connected. 2) After Answer, press # (you should then hear 3 beeps) 3) To change : The Maximum Duration Time of a Paging Call Press : #1xx (you should then hear 1 beep) Where xx = number of seconds and can be (for example, press #145 for 45 seconds) 4) To Change: The Hang Up Tone Detection Delay Press : #2xx (you should then hear 2 beeps)\ Where xx = number of seconds and can be (for example, press #210 for 10 seconds). In the event of a problem, please call ph for assistance and if necessary, a Return Authorization. You should then return your unit, along with the proof of purchase date, and a written statement about the nature of the problem. The Manufacturers obligation is solely to repair or the product. The product may be replaced at the discretion of the Manufacturer. The warrantor is not liable for any incidental or consequential damages due to such defects. This Warranty shall not apply to any unit which has been subject to alteration, modification, abuse, negligence, accident, external voltage/ lightning surge or used in any manner contrary to these instructions. The user is responsible for freight costs to the repair point. The warrantor will be responsible for freight costs in returning this unit back to the user. Damage caused to this device or attached equipment by lightning strikes or over voltage surge is not covered under this warranty. THE CASE IS SEALED AT THE FACTORY.
