4 Does video matter? Increasingly faster broadband speeds are driving the use and demand for video Youtube as preferred Search Youtube is becoming a more popular search engine than Google Search. People prefer not to read and rather watch a video of how to do something, how something works, a product review, etc. than the traditional web search. This trend is going to grow. Netflix and other streaming TV services Traditionally terrestrial and satellite TV have been very popular in South Africa. With the increase in available broadband speeds and increase in satellite TV pricing, MANY South Africans are switching to Netflix and other international and local streaming services to replace what they had. Video calling Video calling on mobile and desktop is becoming a common thing.

8 Residential vs Business broadband Traditionally, Business Broadband, cost more than Residential broadband. Because of Video, it costs more to serve Residential customers than Business customers. Users expect their video streaming unbuffered and always want full speed downloads. Residential services can not be contended any more. Business users can afford to pay more for broadband internet than Residential customers. You can not charge more for Residential broadband than Business Broadband

9 Prepare for the Future The demand for video is rapidly growing. Telecommunication Network Operators need to plan for the future. Customers need high throughput (uncontended) Install the latest last mile wireless technology to be able to offer high speed broadband to many customers per sector/tower (scale)

10 How to operate in a changing environment Make sure you sell unused daytime bandwidth to business customers at a higher ARPU. Your cost to serve these additional business customers will be low. Charge more for Business Broadband Give quicker support response time SLA with penalties Free public static IP blocks? Dedicated/Named account manager Priority service desk/support Bundled VoIP & Hosted PABX
