The EtherNet/IP protocol provides high-speed data transmission and reliable periodic data communication for equipment to enhance more precise command controls. Features of EtherNet/IP EtherNet/IP is a communication protocol established and maintained by the ODVA association. Compared to conventional MODBUS protocols, EtherNet/IP adopts a high-speed and reliable network with over 10 times greater communication efficiency. EtherNet/IP includes the following technical features: Implicit and Explicit Communication Implicit communication (or I/O Connection): Based on user demands, host computers can connect via Unicast or Multicast as a periodic high-speed data transmission: Unicast is a one-on-one connection. Once a host computer is connected, other host computers cannot read this connection data to ensure data transmission safety. Multicast is a one-to-many connection. When a host computer is connected, another host computer is allowed to establish a listen-only connection to read data

2 Explicit communication: For non-periodic data transmission, users can give commands to devices via Message to access specific data. This feature provides another communication method for data transmission in EtherNet/IP. Easy and Real-time Data Exchange TAG Function: Users can self-define names for parameter groups as a TAG based on their demands. With the TAG function, users do not need to input repetitive parameters during maintenance. In addition, a self-defined TAG can be applied to all devices and software to provide convenience and integrity. Request Packet Interval (RPI): RPI allows a high priority data exchange to engage fast updates by setting up the frequency for data transmission interval. This feature allows slave computers to transmit data without requiring indirect inquiries through host computers, which provides more efficient data transmission to the whole network. Network Redundant Technology - DLR (Device Level Ring) This advanced redundant technology ensures network error recovery in 3ms for any EtherNet/IP network within 50 nodes. This feature reduces potential loss caused by network disconnection. TAG can also be exported to share with third party devices to save parameter setting time. Real-time Network Monitoring for Easy Maintenance EIP Builder provides visualized network management. When errors occur, the software interface displays real-time error codes and descriptions to fulfill convenient and user-friendly network monitoring. Parameter Back-up When replacing a new slave computer, this parameter back-up function allows host computers to automatically download related parameters to the replaced slave computer from SD cards. With the parameter back-up feature, users do not need to open the software to set up new slave computers.
