Wireless Infrastructure Redesign Questions & Responses June 13, 2016 Q1: One thing I was curious about was if you are open to field questions and will there be floor plans listed showing areas where coverage is needed as well as showing any current cable drops and current AP placement. R1: Please see attached file, or visit Q2: Also is there an existing list of current hardware in use today so we could check compatibility to use existing equipment? R2: 1 Wireless Controller Aruba 6000 Access points: 12 AP AP 65 June 15, 2016 Q3: Is it your intention and plan to eventually, replace your entire n wireless infrastructure with ac? R3: The College is looking for a recommendation utilizing current and future technology. We have not chosen a direction at this point. Q4: Could you please inform us which model of Aruba access points to make sure we address the compatibility accordingly? R4: See response 1. Q5: Could you please inform us the model of your existing layer 2 and/or layer 3 access lists and switches R5: Currently using HP switches 29xx, 54xx, and 82xx models with POE. Q6: Are you currently a VMware customer? R6: Yes. Q7: Do you have a floor plan that you can share with us to build a remote predictive survey for you (no cost)?
R7: Please see response 1. Q8: Please provide the Site Maps depicting current Wi-Fi node locations throughout the campus R8: Please see response 1. Q9: Site Maps of any new areas that are needing coverage R1: Student Center and Wellness Center areas need coverage. See floorplan below. Q10: Current Heat Maps showing current coverage and areas identified as weak or black holes R10: See response 1 for heat maps and coverage areas. Q11: Equipment inventory of what is existing, to include Models of switches, APs, controllers, routers, firewalls, etc. basically any equipment that will be displaced by the new solution. R11: See response 2. Q12: What s the square footage for indoor coverage? R12: See maps and floor plans in response 1. Q13: Please provide available Floor plans Complete & Accurate R13: See response 1. Q14: Building construction type concrete? Wood / Concrete? Metal / Wood? R14: All constructions types used. Q15: Floor construction Concrete? Wood/Wood? Metal/Wood? Concrete/Wood? R15: Concrete. Q16: Wall construction Concrete? Sheet Rock? Wood? Combination of all? R16: Combination of all. Q17: Ceiling type - Drop / Suspended Tile? Sheet Rock? Concrete? Industrial? Equipment closet location(s)? R17: Ceilings are made up of all types. Equipment closets are not identified. The College will use the existing cable plant to connect wireless network equipment. Q18: Number of floors R18: See response 1 for floor plans. Q19: If outdoor coverage is needed what areas are to be covered and what are the connectivity requirements for outdoors usage? R19: No specific outdoor coverage needed. Outdoor coverage can be provided from indoor APs.
Q20: Wi-Fi capacity / capabilities (Take in consideration indoor and outdoor requirements)? R20: Currently have about 300 concurrent wireless users with approximately 1400 users a year. We are looking for the latest technology and capabilities to manage BYOD and enterprise wireless networks. Q21: How many clients need to be supported? R21: See response 20. Q22: How many devices need to be supported? R22: See response 20. Q23: What types of devices need to utilize the network? Tablets? Laptops? Desktops? Printers? Smart Phones? VoIP Phones? Hand Held Scanning devices? R23: Any wireless device. All those listed in Q23. Q24: Bandwidth expectations for Wi-Fi R24: We are looking recommendations and the costs associated with those recommendations. Need the ability to manage and limit user bandwidth. Q25: What kind of usage - checking? Video Conferencing? Video streaming? Audio streaming? VoIP? Client tracking aka Location Based Services Context Aware? R25: All listed. Q26: Would the spectrum analysis and heat map be performed after the award and as part of the project, or is it expected that this work would be performed as part of the bid process? R26: Vendor should put in the bid and project what they feel is required for their system. Q27: Is the intent to have the heat map performed on-site or as part of a predictive design? R27: See response 1 and 26. Q28: Are you able to supply floor plans of all the areas that require coverage, including notations of high density areas, building materials, and ceiling heights? R28: See response 1. Q29: Will the school provide all the necessary cabling to the AP locations and POE switch ports? R29: Yes. Q30: Is there a preference as to a cloud based management solution or a premise based solution?
R30: The College prefers on premise. Q31: If premise, will there be an ability to load the management software on VMware? R31: The College currently has VMware but would prefer a hardware based solution separate from current VMware configuration. Q32: Regarding the statement NMCC would like the design to take into effect the existing infrastructure coverage ; does this mean that NMCC plans to augment the existing wireless network, rather than replace as new? R32: We are looking for recommendations and costs associated with the recommendations. June 20, 2016 Q33: Is it possible to obtain a clean copy of current maps needed without the exiting coverage showing? This will help make a clean design and we will still leverage existing cable drops where possible. R33: Yes. See website for maps. Q34: Wall materials questions: inner and exterior walls: should we assume all brick if unknown or can you tell us the materials in the buildings? R34: Most are block with metal studs with sheetrock on the exterior. Interior walls are mostly metal studs and sheetrock. Some walls between building additions such as Edmunds to Christie are block. If it is unknown using block as the material type will help guarantee a better signal. Q35: Required coverage areas? Should we assume all rooms on maps? Any areas where we should assume >50 simultaneous users regularly (such as auditorium or common area). R35: Yes coverage is required in all areas. The student center area will have >50 simultaneous users regularly. See map for area identification. Q36: Estimated number devices: how many wireless devices will be active on the network simultaneously? R36: Currently at 300 concurrent but looking for recommendation for grow over the next 5 years. Q37: Do you have an estimate or a daily average? R37: No. Please see response 20. Q38: Are you currently leveraging Aruba Airwave for troubleshooting and reporting? R38: No.
Q39: Is the desire to continue to keep using any of the existing Aruba AP 105's (we would recommend the AP 65's be retired under almost all circumstances). R39: We are looking for proposals that can provide the latest technology but also keeping the project costs as a factor in the project. Q40: What worked and what didn't with your previous WLAN? R40: Using the captive portal for authentication worked well but created issues when users didn t login and this overloaded the firewall on our current Aruba controller. Q41: What are some of your major pain points? R41: See response 40, guest account management, managing residential life gaming consoles, and the limit of APs on existing controller. Q42: Any other driving factors? R42: No. Q43: What does the campus primarily use the network for today, (i.e. Guest Access? Classroom Based Curriculum? On Campus housing?) R43: Yes, all of these. Q44: Where do you see NMCC in the next 3 to 5 years in terms of increased enrollment? More locations? R44: Probably not additional locations but enrollment growth. Q45: What types of devices do you anticipate connecting to the wireless? Printers? Smart TV s? Other technology widgets? R45: See response 23. Q46: Do you have floor plans available? What types of walls do you have on your campus? Concrete? Dry Wall? R46: See maps and response 34. Q47: How many locations and/or buildings does your campus have? Do you have remote workers? R47: 1 location with 10 buildings. No remote workers that utilize wireless network. Q48: Do you need visibility into the network? What applications are being used on your network? R48: Yes, limited use of a PacketShaper. Unknown. Students, public, and employee applications.
Q49: Are you also looking for switches along with this redesign, or will you just be replacing/adding to the existing wireless? R49: No. Currently network was upgraded 3 years ago. Q50: Do you have time to schedule a call to speak with one our engineers and evaluate some of the product? R50: We will schedule presentations after the initial review of RFP documents. Q51: What other complementary (or competitive) solutions are you evaluating? R51: None. Q52: Do you have a listing of the scope of work, number of units, and the number of access points deployment today? R52: See response 2. Q53: Can we re-use the existing Ethernet connections to the current APs? R53: Yes.
