1 SECTION COMPUTER NETWORK WIRING SYSTEMS FOR PLCs NOTE TO SPECIFIER: This section applies to primary learning centers only. PART 1 GENERAL 1.01 SUMMARY A. Section Includes: A complete computer network wiring system for data communications, including necessary accessories. B. Related Sections: Telephone and Data Raceway Systems Wire and Cable SUBMITTALS A. Submit properly identified manufacturer's literature and technical data to A/E before installation. B. Provide additional information as may be required by A/E to establish compliance with requirements of this section. C. Project Record Documents: Furnish a set of "Record Drawings" to A/E indicating accurate plan layout, conduit runs, and the like as actually installed QUALITY ASSURANCE A. Qualifications: The installer shall be a licensed electrical contractor with at least 10 years of experience installing data cables and equipment and certified by equipment manufacturer. All devices shall be installed as indicated and as specified by manufacturer's recommendations. 1. Provide tools, labor, and materials as necessary for a complete installation. B. Regulatory Requirements: Comply with current building and electrical requirements of: 1. National Electrical Code - NFPA 70 (NEC). Project No. GUIDELINE SPECIFICATIONS

Adhesive Marking Tape: Bradley or accepted equivalent COMPONENTS A. Data Cable: The data cable shall be a Level 5, high Project No. GUIDELINE SPECIFICATIONS

3 performance 100 ohm, four-pair (No.24 AWG) twisted unshielded solid core copper cables, band marked insulation, tested and capable of transmitting data at speeds up to 100 Mbps. 1. Unshielded Data Cable in Metal Conduit: PVC coated. 2. Unshielded Data Cable Not in Metal Conduit: Plenum rated and FEP (teflon) coated. 3. Provide color-coded cables as follows: a. The EIA/TIA 568B wiring standard shall be used for data and voice jacks. b. This system requires: 1) Pair - 1 be wired to pins 4 and 5. 2) Pair - 2 be wired to pins 1 and 2. 3) 4) Pair - 3 be wired to pins 3 and 6. Pair - 4 be wired to pins 7 and 8. B. Fiber Optic Cable: Inside/outside 62.5/125 micron 12 stranded multimode fiber optic cable with snap type (ST) connectors. C. Workstation Outlets: 1. Workstation Outlet Jack: AT&T type M100 or equal. 2. Single Gang Faceplate: AT&T M16A fourplex, almondcolored plastic, or accepted equivalent. D. Wiring Closet Panel: 1. Cross-connect Category 5 Jack Panel: AT&T 1100 type or accepted equivalent. 2. A data communications backboard or terminal cabinet. E. Data Communication Backboard: 3 feet wide by 6 feet high by 3/4" thick plywood panel, painted gray with fire retardant paint. F. Terminal Cabinet: Great Lakes Case and Cabinet Co. or accepted equivalent. G. Communication Cabinets: P/N GLPP-2418, GLPP-4818, or GLPP PART 3 EXECUTION 3.01 INSTALLATION Project No. GUIDELINE SPECIFICATIONS

4 A. Metal Conduit Systems: 1. Install wires and cables for the computer network wiring systems in a metal conduit raceway system consisting of conduits, cable trays, appropriate supports, pull boxes, and outlet boxes to form an empty raceway system. 2. Conduit fill of any conduit shall not exceed 40 percent. B. Cables shall be pulled-in complete without splice from workstation outlet jack to wiring closet cross-connect jack panel. 1. Each above-ceiling J-box or pull box shall be used for pulling purposes only and shall be located in accessible locations. 2. Junction box blank covers shall be painted gray. C. Make terminations of twisted pair cables at workstation and wiring station panels edge connectors according to color code assigned to each terminal. Color-coded connections shall be the same throughout the work. D. Cables within wall mounted pull boxes shall be neatly bundled with plastic cable ties. Allow an equal amount of slack for cables. E. Identify cables from wiring closet panel to workstations with adhesive marking tape by workstation room number at each junction and pull box. Identify interconnection cables at wiring closet panel. F. Provide within each wiring closet panel a 20A, 125V, 3 wire, grounding type dual duplex receptacle. 1. Install the receptacle in a 4" x 4" x 2-1/8" deep box and connect to a dedicated circuit. 2. Provide an equipment ground. NOTE TO SPECIFIER: The following paragraph applies to new projects only. Edit to suit project requirements. G. Install fiber optic cable between wiring closets, if more than one wiring closet exists. NOTE TO SPECIFIER: The following paragraph applies to renovations and additions only. Edit to Project No. GUIDELINE SPECIFICATIONS

5 suit project requirements. H. Install fiber optic cable between the new wiring closet(s) and the nearest existing wiring closet(s). I. Terminate the fiber with ST connectors in a Lightguide Interface Unit (LIU) box at both ends or in a rack mounted termination/splice cabinet in the terminal cabinet. J. Install 4-pair twisted cables between the nearest new wiring closet and the new workstation locations (maximum wire run of 250 feet). K. Terminate the 4-pair twisted cables between the new closet(s) and workstation outlet locations on a crossconnect jack panel in the wiring closets and on a jack at the workstation outlet locations. L. Install a data communications backboard panel in each wiring closet FIELD QUALITY CONTROL A. Test, with a WAVETEK LAN cable tester, the following: 1. The connection of wiring of each work station outlet and corresponding wiring closet panel outlet. 2. The connection of fiber of each IDF to the MDF. B. Provide tests for the following conditions: 1. Continuity of each wire in the installed cable. 2. Short circuit condition between any wire of the cable and the metal conduit system. 3. Noise. 4. DC Loop Resistance Scan(cable length/distance to fault). Capacitance. 7. Impedance. 8. Attenuation. 9. Near-End Crosstalk. 10. Signal-to-noise ratio. 11. Meet EIA/TIA-568A and EIA/TIA-TSB-67 standards for CAT 5 for basic link. C. Replace defective cable/connections without additional cost to the Board.
