2 What is JCA HN, and what fr? A Jint Crdinatin Activity n Hme Netwrking (JCA-HN) was established in March 2006, apprved by TSAG Andrew Nunn (BT, UK) is the Cnvenr f this activity. The scpe f the JCA-HN was decided fllwing a meeting held immediately after the ITU-T wrkshp Opprtunities and Challenges in Hme Netwrking, Octber JCA-HN will: C-rdinate the Hme Netwrk Initiative activity acrss ITU-T Study Grups Seek cperatin frm external bdies wrking in the field and disseminate infrmatin received frm these bdies t the relevant ITU-T Study Grups. Identify what shuld be standardized by ITU-T Prepare a radmap fr this standardizatin activity

3 The task frces in JCA HN Task Frces have been set up under the JCA-HN n HN architecture and QS and Terminlgy. The Task Frce n Hme Netwrking Architecture will perate as a grup f experts frm the relevant ITU-T Study Grups. The cnvenr is Mr. Istvan Sebestyen (Siemens). The Task Frce n Hme Netwrking QS and Terminlgy will be pen t "nminated" members f relevant utside bdies. A web site is available

Objective 2 : T be a place t share the prgress and the results (e.g.qs requirements frm HGI, final chice between the scenaris presented by Cablelabs, )

5 Sme f the definitins n which cmmn apprach shuld be apprpriate, inside the Task Frce -QS prirized (r pririty based QS) / QS parameterized (parameter based QS) Parameterized QS = Garanteed QS? - Definitin frm a presentatin given by in the Wrkshp HN, 2004 (see - Priritized: Differentiated/Preferential access t the media, n QS parameter guarantees - Parameterized: Planned access t media, QS parameter guarantees - Anther definitin given at the same wrkshp - Priritized : differentiated access/queuing - Parameterized : planned access/queuing - In parallel, it shuld be apprpriate t check if the parameters are defined similarly in different Bdies. - Static QS / Dynamic QS

7 Supplementary subjects (frm a Cntributin t ITU-T : D543 t SG15) The dmain t standardize in hme netwrking When we study end-t-end QS, we must keep in mind that there are varius kinds f Access Netwrk technlgies, such as FTTx, xdsl, wireless, and s n. This issue als applies t Hme Netwrk. Sessin 5 QUALITY OF SERVICE IN THE HOME NETWORK in ITU-T Wrkshp n Opprtunities and Challenges in Hme Netwrking addresses the QS aspect f Hme Netwrk. Accrding t the presentatin Managing QS in the hme envirnment fr multiservices distributin, ne f the main bjectives fr a Telc is t manage QS frm end t end including hme netwrks. Hme netwrk technlgies are available but the prblem is the hetergeneity in terms f: Media (phnelines, pwerlines, RF, UTP cables, InfraRed, IEEE1394, USB,...) Tplgies (pint t pint, shared bus, hybrid tplgies,...) Reliability, such as variable bit rate, jitter, delays, as a functin f the physical envirnment (prpagatin issues), EMC envirnment, It will be better t standardize IPcable2Hme Dmain in Figure 1 frm the abve perspectives fr the purpse f guaranteeing end-t-end QS. The candidate interfaces t standardize may be the tw HA interfaces; the s called TPDN and TCN. This is because TPDN is the interface that allws HA t intercnnect with varius kinds f Access Netwrks, while TCN is the interface that allws HA t intercnnect with varius kinds f Hme Netwrks.
