11 SECTION 2.0 SETUP & OPERATION 2.0 GENERAL This Section outlines setup and operation of Sunnen Electronic Dial Bore Gages. 2.1 PRECAUTIONS Observe the following precautions to avoid instrument failure or malfunction. Do not strike Gage or allow it to be struck. Do not drop Gage or apply excessive force. Do not disassemble or modify Gage. Do not press keys with a pointed object (such as a screwdriver or ballpoint pen). Do not use or store Gage under direct sunlight, or in an excessively hot or cold environment Be alert for malfunction due to material deterioration if Gage is used in an environment with Low or high atmospheric pressure. Do not store Gage in a high-humidity environment Do not use Gage where it could be splashed with coolant Do not use high-voltage equipment, such as an electric marking pen, near Gage; electronic parts may be damaged by such equipment. Be alert for malfunction if Gage is used in the vicinity of electric noise. Secure Gage with a fixture such as a dial gage stand in a vibration-free environment. 5
12 Do not subject the spindle to a vertical load or torsion. Wipe stains from Gage paneling a soft cotton cloth or swab, that is dry or moistened with diluted neutral detergent. Do not use an organic solvent such as thinner and benzene, which may cause Gage panel to deform or malfunction. NOTE: Be alert for measurement errors caused by thermal expansion of component parts and fixtures, resulting from a significant temperature fluctuation. Use Gage only in a temperaturecontrolled room that has minimum temperature fluctuation. Allow sufficient time for Gage to thermally stabilize if it is moved to an environment with a different temperature. 2.2 SETUP ANGLE ADJUSTMENT OF DISPLAY Display can be rotated 240 clockwise to position A; or 90" counterclockwise to position B from its initial position. IMPORTANT Stops are set at both positions A and B. Stop rotating display at stops, or Gage may malfunction. Do not push in display or pull it out. Doing so may cause Gage to malfunction. 6
13 2.2.2 CABLE CONNECTION Measured values can be transferred, summed up and recorded by connecting Gage to a Digimatic Miniprocessor DP-1 VR or other data processor with an optional connecting cable. 1. Remove output connector cap, and then connect Gage to data processing unit by using a connecting cable. 2. Insert cable securely to end. IMPORTANT Retain cap for reinstallation, taking care to prevent loss. Be sure to re-attach cap to connecting cable when not in use. 2.3 OPERATION POWER ON/OFF Power can be turned ON or OFF, by Press DATA ON/OFF key. 7
14 NOTES: Gage always starts up in Measurement Mode upon Power ON. Measurement that was set before Gage was Power OFF is retained. (refer to step Switching measurement system.)
