11 1. Before Using the Product Functions Generic I/O functions (data I/O operations that directly access the I/O ports) - Input The unit transmits a maximum of 32 channels (< DI-32LN-FIT >), 16 channels (<DIO-1616LN-FIT >, < DI-16LN-FIT >) or 8 channels (< DIO-0808LN-FIT >) of externally supplied digital signals to a PC that is connected to it via the LAN. Access to the unit from a PC is performed through the input port. When an input port is read by the execution of an input command, the buffer gate associated with the input port is opened, and the digital signals supplied from an external device are fetched in groups. During this operation, signals that are transmitted to the unit will be [ON (closed): 1, OFF (open): 0]. - Output The unit writes a maximum of 32 channels (< DO-32LN-FIT >), 16 channels (< DIO-1616LN-FIT >, < DO-16LN-FIT >) or 8 channels (< DIO-0808LN-FIT >) of digital signals to an external device. Access to the unit from a PC is performed through the output port. When data is written to the output port by the execution of an output command, the data is held on the latch circuit that is associated with the output port. After being electrically isolated by an Optocoupler, the digital signals are transmitted to the connected external device through transistors. During this operation, signals that are transmitted to the external device will be [ON (closed): 1, OFF (open): 0]. Output data monitoring function This function allows you to keep track of the signal data that is being output. 42 3. Connection and Installation Surge Voltage Countermeasures When a load that generates surge voltages and inrush currents, such as an induction load (relay coil) or an incandescent light bulb, is connected to the digital output, appropriate protection must be provided in order to prevent damage to the output stage or a malfunction due to noise. The rapid shutoff of a coil, such as in a relay, generates a sudden high-voltage pulse. If this voltage exceeds the withstand voltage of the output transistor, it can cause the transistor to gradually deteriorate, or even completely damage the transistor. Therefore, when driving an induction load, such as a relay coil, you should always connect a surge-absorbing device. The following illustrates a surge voltage countermeasure that can be employed: Example of use of relay coil Output pin Diode Output pin Relay coil Relay coil Zener diode Minus common Minus common External power voltage < Zener diode voltage Example of use of lump Output pin Output pin Surge current prevention resistor Resistor Minus common Minus common Figure Surge Voltage Countermeasure < DIO-1616LN-FIT >, < DIO-0808LN-FIT >, < DO-32LN-FIT >, < DO-16LN-FIT > CAUTION In order for a protection circuit to operate effectively, it must be connected within 50cm from a load and a contact point. 43 3. Connection and Installation Digital Filter (Hardware) Using this feature, this product can apply a digital filter to every input pin, thereby preventing the input signal from being affected by noise or chattering. Digital Filter Operation Principle The digital filter checks the input signal level during the sampling time of 1/4 cycles of digital filter setting time. When the signal level remains the same for the digital filter setting time (four time sampling), the digital filter recognizes that signal as the normal input signal and changes the filter output signal level. When there will be a change in the signal in the digital filter setting time (sampling four times), the input signal till then is disregarded and it continues the level check again. If the signal level changes at a frequency shorter than the set time, therefore, the level change is ignored. 68 6. Virtual Address Map F&eIT Protocol Specifications The sudden spread of the Internet has resulted in networks springing up in a wide range of fields. This, in turn, has resulted in the appearance of many information devices that make use of this infrastructure. Yet, it is a fact that interconnectivity - the greatest advantage of networks - is not being used to its fullest. CONTEC sees networks as a prime part of the system bus concept and has developed distributed monitor & control networks that organically integrate various applications from corporate offices through to field applications. Figure 6.2. Communications Server Concept-Overall Diagram The following defines the common protocol layers that will be provided in all products based upon the communications server concept. Such products, complying with the communications server specifications, will be able to access device information using the same protocol.
