12 Chapter 1: Introduction to alarms and events Alarm and events overview Events SimpliVity provides a number of pre-configu alarms trigge by events occuring throughout the SimpliVity environment.these alarms can change state from mild warnings to serious alerts as conditions change and can trigger automated actions such as Phone Home. SimpliVity events are records of system actions that act as triggers for various pre-configu SimpliVity alarms. There are three types of events: Information Warning Error Alarms A list of all SimpliVity events is available in the vsphere Web Client by: Selecting Monitor > Event Console and filtering the output for SimpliVity. A list of the events for an object and its associated child object is available through the Web Client by: Open the vcenter Management Console Select the inventory object. Select the Monitor tab. Click Events. Alarms are notifications trigge by an event. Multiple events may trigger the same alarm. View the current alarm state by selecting the Alarms sidebar in the vsphere Web Client and: Clicking All to view all trigge alarms. Clicking New to view new alarms. Clicking Ack'd to view achnowledged alarms. Or, select Monitor > Alarms to view alarms trigge on a selected object. A SimpliVity alarm definition consists of the following elements: Name and Triggers Provides an identifying label and. Defines the type of object being monito and includes: Cluster, VirtualMachine, and. Defines the event(s) that trigger the alarm and defines the notification severity. green normal 12 Alarm and events overview

13 yellow warning alert Tolerance thresholds (Reporting) s Provides additional restrictions on condition and state triggers thresholds that must be exceeded before the alarm is trigge. Defines operations that occur in response to trigge alarms. SimpliVity provides sets of pefined actions that are specific to inventory object types. SimpliVity Alarms have the following severity levels: Normal Warning Alert green yellow Alarms 13
