3 1: Introduction There are three versions of power supplies that drive the Pockels-cell in the Fluorolog - Tau-3: External Bertan DC high-voltage power supply. See the Fluorolog Tau-3 Lifetime System Operation Manual for information on this power supply. External ISA Jobin Yvon Spex PMT- HVPS highvoltage power supply. Internal highvoltage powersupply board, mounted within the SpectrAcq itself. The Fluorolog Tau-3 Lifetime System Operation Manual describes the system when the Bertan power supply is used. This addendum describes the changes when the PMT-HVPS or internal board is used. 3

4 2: PMT-HVPS Power Supply Basic operation of the Tau lifetime instrument is identical to that when the Bertan power supply is used. 5 3: Internal Pockels-Cell Power Supply Hardware In this configuration, the power supply for the Pockels cell is contained within the SpectrAcq, on a common high-voltage power-supply board. Terminals for connection from the back of the SpectrAcq to the instrument are labeled HV1 through HV3 or HV4. There are three coaxial connections for an instrument with a signal (S) and reference (R) detector; there are four coaxial connections for an instrument with a signal (S), reference (R), and third (T) detector. The extra connector is for the high voltage to the Pockels cell. Which connector controls which part of the instrument is governed by the layout in the software. 5

6 Software Instead of manual control, to set the high voltage for the Pockels cell use DataMax software. 1 In DataMax, open the Real Time Display. 2 If the High Voltage area is not shown, click the HV button. 3 In the High Voltage area, click within the pockels field, and enter the desired voltage to go to the Pockels cell. 4 To activate the voltage, click the HV On checkbox. 6
