CE conformity For CE conformity the RH and air temperature sensor RHT4nl -02 is identical with the RHT3nl-CA. Please consult the certification documentation for the RHT3nl-CA for use with the GP1 logger in the WS-GP1 Weather Station. If the sensor is used with any other measuring equipment, it is the responsibility of the user to ensure the EMC compliance of any such systems. FCC Class A Device The RHT3nl has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instruction manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense. Application The RHT4nl is a Relative Humidity and Air Temperature sensor with solar radiation shield that can be used in glasshouses, polytunnels or outdoor environments where these parameters need

3 Application The RHT4nl is a Relative Humidity and Air Temperature sensor with solar radiation shield that can be used in glasshouses, polytunnels or outdoor environments where these parameters need to be recorded. The RHT4nl-02 is an adaptation of the RHT3nl relative humidity and temperature sensor that forms part of the Delta-T Devices WS- GP1 weather station. For standalone use of the RHT4 with the GP1 logger, a bracket for wall or pole mounting of the RHT4 is included and the cable is extended to a length of 2m. Scope of this document This User Manual Addendum refers only to the independent operation of the RHT4nl with the GP1 data logger. Wiring connection and programming examples are provided. For other technical information you will also need to refer to the Delta-T Software and Manuals CD (SMCD) or to the Delta-T website: For full performance specifications and operation instructions of the RHT4 refer to the Technical Manual for the RH and Air Temperature Sensor type RHT3nl-CA. For operation and communication with the GP1 logger you must install DeltaLINK on your PC. If your PC does not have a 9-pin RS232 Serial port connector you will need to install a USB-RS232 adapter to make connection with the GP1. RHT4nl - Addendum to RHT3nl-CA manual 3

Mounting the Shield The angle bracket can be mounted directly on a wall or vertical surface or alternatively to a vertical or horizontal pole or mast with the U-bolts provided.

After the shield has been mounted, you can install the RHT4 in it using the sensor clamp nut. Thread the sensor cable through the clamp nut before wiring the sensor to the GP1!

4 Mounting the Shield The angle bracket can be mounted directly on a wall or vertical surface or alternatively to a vertical or horizontal pole or mast with the U-bolts provided. The sensor will be spaced approximately 17cm away from the vertical surface or 20cm from the pole or mast centre-line. After the shield has been mounted, you can install the RHT4 in it using the sensor clamp nut. Thread the sensor cable through the clamp nut before wiring the sensor to the GP1! You can subsequently remove the sensor for inspection by unscrewing the clamp nut, without dismantling the shield from the bracket. Wiring Connections to the GP1 The RHT4nl sensor requires the following: One analogue voltage channel for the RH reading One temperature channel for the air temperature reading. Power supply for the RH channel Temperature is sensed with a 10 kω thermistor which is ideally suited to the Delta-T GP1 data logger. The table below shows the options for connecting the RH sensor to either channel 1 or 2, and for the temperature sensor to either channel 3 or channel 4 of the GP1. Programming the GP1 logger You will need DeltaLINK software installed on your PC. If you are unfamiliar with the GP1 refer to the GP1 Quick Start Guide (from the DeltaLINK Document Library, or the SMCD). Establish communications with the GP1 logger via an RS232 COM port and cable. Create a new Standard GP1 program for the RHT4nl sensor. Select CH2 (for example) and set the custom voltage channel properties as shown in Figure 3. Select channel Temp4 and choose 10k Thermistor from the drop-down list of options. DeltaLINK also allows control of solenoid valves on an irrigation system via a built-in output relay, based on the output from the attached sensors. RHT4nl - Addendum to RHT3nl-CA manual 5

Data Output Example DeltaLIINK can display sensor data graphically in a wide variety of formats. See figure 4 below for an example. Figure 4: %RH and O C temperature charts from a GP1 data file.

Spares and Maintenance Full details are given in the RHT3nl-CA Technical Manual. Replacement plug-in RH & temperature module The Delta-T sales code for this item is RHT4nl-chp.
