1 Software Update Release Notes Important Notes: To ensure proper functionality, you should use the most current version of display software, Apex desktop software, or preferred partner desktop software. Please reference software versions at the end of this document. IF YOU DO NOT UPDATE BOTH THE DISPLAY AND DESKTOP SOFTWARE VERSIONS, DATA LOSS COULD OCCUR WHEN UNLOADING DATA. Go to GreenStar 2 and find your manual under product information. Documentation Setup and Settings Change With this software update the documentation setup and settings will now be saved by Implement Type and Name. Previously, this information was saved by a Field/Task association. Upgrading to APEX 2.6 will be required to view information as older versions of APEX will not be compatible with your 2600 information after updating to this newest version of display software. Therefore, if at any time you choose to back date your software after updating; returning to a previous version of APEX will also be necessary. It is recommended that you write down your settings such as offsets, COM Port settings if applicable, and other associated set up data before updating. If you are not using APEX as your Desktop Software Solution, ensure your software s current EIC is compatible with this software update (version 2.6). Contact your software provider for more information before updating your display. As a reminder, since all data is stored directly in the 1800 display, before performing any update it is recommended to back up your data to protect the information in the event of an error during the update process. Activations are non-transferrable in the event of lost, stolen, or destroyed equipment. It is recommended to insure your display at full value, including activations. 4 Software Update Release Notes Displays GreenStar Resolved Items Implement Width Implement width can now be entered in 0.01 increments instead of 0.1 increments for Metric and Imperial units to allow for increased precision. Sugar Cane Harvester 1 Row Header Now Supported The lowest number of rows that can be selected is 1 row instead of 4 rows. Known Issues Error 44 Occurrences Error 44 is notification that at least 1 byte of data did not load correctly either from the internet to your card or from your card to the display. Software update SU , July 2009, provided enhancements to minimize the error 44 event from happening. If you are updating from an older version of software 2.3, 2.2, etc. there is a slightly higher chance of an error 44 event. If this occurs, contact your John Deere Dealer for reprogramming. Headland Boundary If a Headland Boundary is created by the Top and Bottom Offset method, then after the display is turned off and on, the method will show as Driven. The Headland Boundary position is unaffected. Boundary Recording Error If boundary recording is initiated and then the machine rolls back slightly before moving forward, the display interprets the machine travel direction as reverse for a short time. Boundary points may be recorded in the wrong location and will be represented on the display as a pie piece cut out of the boundary. It is recommended to start the machine moving forward prior to pressing the Start Boundary Recording button to avoid this concern. Informational Items ISO Virtual Terminal Update Auxiliary Control - This update contains programming to allow connection to the newest ISO virtual terminal standard, VT3. If you have currently been using auxiliary control with an implement that required an earlier standard, VT2, you will need to update your VT software on the implement to VT3 standard to further use auxiliary control (e.g. Joysticks). Contact your implement vendor for this update. If an implement update is not possible and you want to proceed with Auxiliary Control, it is recommended to not update your display until your implement vendor can provide the necessary update. Surface Water Pro Plus Automation -- This software update will enable Surface Water Pro Plus scraper control to be automated by the igrade controller and GPS elevation data. (NA/AU/NZ Only) 3

5 Turning Activations ON/OFF Demo activations and normal activations can now be turned ON and OFF with check boxes on the GreenStar activations page. Un-checking an activation will hide all buttons associated with that feature. Demo Activations will not be turned OFF by default, with the exception of AutoTrac. Text on Buttons Text was added to the Softkey buttons within the GreenStar application and on the Cancel and Accept buttons. Additional Languages Greek, Icelandic, Serbian, and Slovenian can now be selected as the display language to support controllers such as the StarFire However, after selecting these languages some of the text within the display will remain in English. GreenStar Documentation Resolved Items Field Peas Available Field peas are now an available crop choice for documentation. Overlap Control and Side Mount Moisture Sensor It was previously recommended to not use Overlap Control if a side mount moisture sensor was installed and recording concerns were being seen. This has been resolved with this update. Documentation Setup Information Retention Documentation Information Setup is now saved by implement name instead of by farm and field. As an example, after connecting to and setting up a planter with seed type, variety, etc., as long as the implement name remains the same, all documentation setup information is retained when changing the farm and/or field name. Prescription Rate Appears Blank with Recording Off This item has been resolved with this update. Prescription rate will now be populated when recording is off. Informational Items Individual Row Documentation With this update it will now be possible to document individual planter rows and record up to six varieties. More Possibilities for Background Maps With this update it will now be possible to have a choice of several different options for background maps. APEX 2.6 will also be required. As a few examples you will be able to use soil maps, management zones, elevation maps, or variety maps from planting as a background map during harvest. NOTE: It is possible that when loading the background map to the display it may take from seconds to complete. Global Prescription Limitation It is recommended to have no more than 120 global prescriptions loaded on the data card at one time. Known Issues 4

6 Variety Locator Performance with Multiple Varieties Documented -- With this software update it will now be possible to document up to six varieties by individual row. Since there is only one mass flow and moisture sensor on a combine, variety locator uses the center of the harvesting header as the reference point for choosing the variety it is going to document. Multiple varieties documented across the width of the header during a pass across the field will cause individual variety data to be invalid, frequent changing to varieties, large file sizes to be generated, as well as large amounts of the display s CPU being used and may result in slow map updating. GreenStar Resolved Items Implement Width - Implement width can now be entered in 0.01 increments instead of 0.1 increments for Metric and Imperial units to allow for increased precision. Known Issues DN345 Drawn Dry Box Spreader Compatibility Issue If using the GS display to control a DN345 drawn dry box spreader and the operator changes the spread width on the DN345 controller page, the Implement Width setting for the mapping in the GreenStar application does not update automatically. The operator will need to cycle power with the key switch for the Mapping Implement width to update. Swath Control Pro on/off check box not available when adaptive curve recording is paused -- The Swath Control Pro on/off button is not available on the GS GreenStar Run Page when adaptive curve recording is paused. If Swath Control Pro needs to be shut off, the operator will need to un-pause the adaptive curve recording. Receivers StarFire Receivers Informational Items Check for Reflected Antenna Power A check is now included to look at reflected power when a RTK radio is attached. If an improper antenna is connected an error message will be displayed. The 900 MHz radio requires antenna PF The 450 MHz radio requires PF Guidance Informational Items Shift Track Accumulator With this update a shift track accumulator has been installed. The total distance and direction of guidance line shifts can now be displayed. Vehicle Heading Arrow A vehicle heading arrow is included with this update. When the heading is less than 0.5 degrees error, a green arrow is displayed in front of the machine icon; when greater than 0.5 degrees, the arrow turns yellow in color. A heading error indicator dial is available to help the operator to manage overall system performance. This indicator is found in the guidance settings pages and may be added to home pages. 5

7 Resolved Items Vehicles Intermittently Turn from Path with Adaptive Curves -- An issue with adaptive curves was resolved that had resulted in the vehicle intermittently turning away from the path. All adaptive curve users should update their display to this version of software. Crop Solutions GreenStar Rate Controller (Does Not Affect Europe) Resolved Items Service ADVISOR can program multiple GreenStar Rate Controllers Service ADVISOR can now update multiple GreenStar Rate Controllers at the same time. Service ADVISOR will begin updating the GreenStar Rate Controllers one at a time, and when finished updating each controller notification will be given that programming is complete. Previously Service ADVISOR required one single GreenStar Rate Controller to be on the CAN Bus at any given time to update software. GreenStar Rate Controller NH3 Job Summaries and GS2 Display Totals are Corrected The Actual Nitrogen Check Box on the Rates Tab will determine the units that are referenced for the totals in the GS2 Display and the GreenStar Rate controller job summaries. Check this box for an actual N unit, for example lb N/ac. Uncheck this box for a NH3 unit, for example lb NH3/ac. Known Issues GS2 Status Error - A GS2 Status Error will occur if the GS2 Display and GreenStar Rate Controller(s) are updated to the software update and then the GS2 Display is backdated to a previous version of software. A continuous GS2 Status Error will occur until the GreenStar Rate Controller(s) is physically unplugged (power removed) and plugged back in, or a vehicle restart. Operators Manual Has Incorrect Units For NH3 The metric and imperial units are incorrect for the NH3 rates based on mass per unit of area in the GreenStar Rate Controller Operator s Manual. The correct units are listed below. Kg N/ha or kg NH3/ha (Metric Units) Lb N/ac or lb NH3/ac (Imperial Units) GRC does not retain PWM/PWM Close Settings when Software is Updated --The GRC PWM/PWM Close settings coil frequency, high limit, and low limit will not be retained when the Rate 6

8 Controller is updated from 3.10F to 3.20N software. These settings will revert back to the default numbers. The control valve calibration number will be retained. It is recommended that customers using the Rate Controller with a PWM/PWM Close control valve document their below PWM/PWM Close Settings. The Rate Controller will not function without a PWM Hi Limit number, so the settings will have to be updated before the system will function. Defaults Informational Items GreenStar 2 Rate Controller Name is changing to GreenStar Rate Controller--The GreenStar Rate Controller will no longer be called the GreenStar 2 Rate Controller. The number 2 has been dropped from the name to have consistency with future compatibility. There will be a transition period where you could see both names while we work to make the required name changes. Liquid Manure Compatibility - The GreenStar Rate Controller software has been enhanced to be compatible with liquid manure applications including dragline and tank systems. System components need to meet the GreenStar Rate Controller component compatibility that is found in the Ag Sales Manual or the latest GreenStar Rate Controller Operators Manual which is located on StellarSupport.com. The Implement Type of Liquid Fert Tool should be used for manure applications in the GreenStar Rate Controller setup. o GreenStar Rate Controller liquid manure applications without a Control Valve need to select None in the Control Valve Type drop down. o When the operator has None selected as the Control Valve type indicating they cannot stop flow, Swath Control Pro is disabled. This ensures that the volume of manure applied is correct, however the acres applied will include all areas overlapped and can be slightly higher than the actual field size. o For manure applications using a dragline (does not have tank) ensure the tank volume is set to zero. This will remove the tank icons and tank level warnings. The tank volume will default to 1000 gallons. o For manure applications using a Krohne Flowmeter, ensure the pulses/gallon are set to 2 or higher. Please see the Krohne Operators Manual for further detail. 7

9 Implement Switch Requirement Changes For this software update an implement switch will be optional for Liquid Fert and required for NH3 and Planter implement types. In previous software, an implement switch was required for Liquid Fert, NH3 and Planter Implement Types. Implement Switch Wording Changes With this software update the wording has changed as follows. Previous Software New Software GreenStar Rate Controller Predefined Rate Changes The letters located on the top left corner of each Rate button (Rate1/Rate2/Rate3) represent the short-cut buttons that are available when using a Display Control. GreenStar Rate Controller Manual Rate Changes The rate previously named Manual has been changed to more accurately represent the volume or mass per unit of area based on the operator defined units. There is also a plus and minus button on each side of the rate input box for easy on the go adjustments. 10 GreenStar Rate Controller New Rate Based On Flow There is a new rate option in the rate drop down menu for a rate based on flow. There is also a plus and minus button on each side of the rate input box for easy on the go adjustments. Implement Type US Units Metric Units Imperial Units Liquid Fertilizer gal/min L/min I Gal/min Sprayer gal/min L/min I Gal/min NH3 gal/min L/min I Gal/min Calibrate Flow Meter Test Changes There are now two Calibrate Flow Meter tests for the GreenStar Rate Controller o o Calibrate Flow Meter Catch This test allows the operator to catch product and enter the exact amount caught to calibrate the flowmeter. This test is available for sprayers and liquid fertilizer applications; it is not available for NH3 applications. The Calibrate Flowmeter Catch Test will function just like the Calibrate Flowmeter Test did prior to this software update. Calibrate Flow Meter Applied This test allows the operator to apply a known amount of product and enter the known amount to calibrate the flowmeter. This test is available for sprayers, liquid fertilizer, and NH3 applications. Configuration Test Changes - When an operator completes the Configuration Test, the flow displayed in the test screen will be utilizing the operator defined rate smoothing percentage. The rate smoothing percentage can be 3-15% (default is 3) and is setup on the GreenStar Rate Controller Rates Tab. All Sections Enabled After Completing a Flowmeter and Pressure Sensor Calibration Test - When an operator completes a Flowmeter and Pressure Sensor Calibration Test, the system will automatically re-enable all sections. In previous software, the sections that the operator disabled during the Flowmeter and Pressure Sensor Calibration test would remain disabled until the operator manually re-enabled them. GreenStar Rate Controller Speed Requirement Changes The GreenStar Rate controller now requires a vehicle speed greater than 0.5 km/h ( mph) for all the implement types except planting and seeding implement types. In previous software, the GreenStar Rate Controller required a vehicle speed greater than 1 km/h (0.62 mph) for all implement types except planting and seeding. NOTE: GreenStar Rate Controller requires a vehicle speed greater than 0 km/h (0mph) for planting and seeding implement types. Due to GPS drift, the GRC considers speeds of 0.3 km/h (0.19 mph) or less to be equal to 0 km/h (0 mph). NH3 Energize System Test Changes The NH3 Energize System Test will now enable (command open) for 3 seconds for Fast and Fast Close Valves and 8 seconds for Standard Control Valves. In previous software, the test would enable for 3 seconds for Standard, Fast, and Fast Close control valves. Minimum Flow Rate Removed for NH3 The Minimum Flow Rate requirement for NH3 has been removed with this software update. There is only a Minimum Flow Rate requirement for Sprayers and Liquid Fertilizer now. 9

11 Swath Control Pro (Section Control) Resolved Items Swath Control Re-Enables Automatically Inside 4.50 Mile Condition Swath Control Pro will disable itself if the machine gets 4.75 miles or farther from the field reference point. Swath Control will then re-enable automatically when the machine gets 4.5 miles or closer to the field reference point as long as the system was not disabled by the user. In previous software, the machine would not automatically re-enable when the machine got 4.5 miles or closer to the field reference point, the user had to manually re-enable Swath Control Pro. For further information on how the reference point is determined please reference the Swath Control Pro section of the GS2 Basics Operator Manual. Swath Control Percent Overlap Increased to 125% - Swath Control Pro can be set from 100% to 125% to achieve increasing amounts of overlap. This will allow the operator to achieve desired results and prevent skips by creating intentional overlap. It is not recommended to utilize the Turn on and Turn off times to achieve intentional overlap as this can cause additional system complications. The overlap percentage range is 0 125%. Previously it could only be set 0-100%. NOTE: It is not recommended to utilize the Turn on and Turn off times to achieve intentional overlap; this can cause additional system complications. To achieve increasing amounts of overlap utilize the Percent Overlap between %. This will allow the operator to achieve desired results and prevent skips by creating intentional overlap. Known Issues Swath Control Secondary Operation Sections Commanded To Off If using Swath Control Pro with multiple operations at once and a Client, Farm, and Field is not selected, Swath Control will only work correctly for one of the operations. Selecting a Client, Farm, and Field will correct the issue. This issue will only affect customers operating a GreenStar Rate Controller. Memory Usage Percentage Will Not Update From 0% (1800 Only) - If the operator views the Swath Control diagnostics page on the 1800 GreenStar Display, the memory usage percentage will not update from 0%. Swath Control Background Map Resets - If the operator sets the background map to aerial or variety, then navigates to the Swath Map View, they will see Operation 0/x (x-number of operations). As soon as the operator presses the Operation Toggle Button once to navigate away from the 0/x, the background will set to either Rx if in use or to if no Rx is in use. The issue will only occur on the Swath Control Map View page and the Swath Control homepages. Operation Toggle Button 10
