2 Description The Loctite LED Array System is a powerful curing system for light curable products. The Array Light Sources are available in two wavelengths and two different light output patterns. The optimum operating distance is approximately 100mm from the target and the output patterns available are 100mm x 100mm or 25mm x 150mm. One Array can be controlled by main Controller (Item# ). For each additional Array to be added (up to four channels total) an Expansion Module (Item# ) needs also to be added to provide its current output. The system can run as individual stations, with individual cycle times and intensity settings, by connecting up to four footswitches or all channels are controlled from a single footswitch connected to Channel 1 (Master/Slave). For integration to automated systems, there is a Master I/O 25-pin D-SUB connector on the back panel that allows start control to each channel and feedback for timing and faults. 2.1 Items supplied The CL20 Controller comes with (1) Footswitch, (1) AC Power Cable, (1) 26-pin Communications Cable and (1) Equipment Manual. Each CL20 Expansion Module is supplied with (1) AC Power Cable and (2) 26-pin Communications Cables. The CL20 LED Power Cable to the LED Array light sources are purchased separately (see Accessories and Spare Parts). 2.2 Features Up to 4 LED Arrays can be powered from one Controller (with Expansion modules) Individual Channel operation or Master/Slave mode from Channel 1 Each Channel is intensity adjustable Four line operator message display Internal Fault detections 4

If any shipping damage is found DO NOT USE THE EQUIPMENT - return it to your supplier immediately. Steps 1 5 should be followed before connection to the main power supply: 1. For Channel 1, connect the 26-pin Communications Cable ( ) to the Array from COM1 on the controller. 2. For Channel 1, connect the CL20 LED Power Cable ( ) from the OUTPUT TO ARRAY 1 connector on the controller to the input connector on the Array. 3. For Channels 2 thru 4, connect a 26-pin Communications Cable from COM 2-4 on the controller to the INPUT of each of the Expansion Modules for Channels 2-4. Then connect another 26-pin Communications Cable from each Expansion Module OUPUT to the respective Array For Channel 2-4, connect the CL20 LED Power Cable from the OUTPUT TO ARRAY connector on the Expansion Module to the input connector on the respective Array. 5. Connect the footswitch(s) to START 1 thru 4 as required. 6. Connect the Controller and Expansion Modules to main power supply using the provided Power Cords. 6
5 Operation Before initial operation of the system, there is a setup procedure for the controller and an Array Evaluation function for the light source(s). Once an initial Array Evaluation is done, parameters are stored and displayed for that particular Array. At regular intervals to be determined, there is a Verification function that should be performed which repeats the testing of the Array and checks to see if any characteristic parameters have changed. This could indicate a faulty LED in the Array and a change in electrical performance. If it is determined that sufficient light is still available for curing, performing the Array Evaluation function again will reset the numbers to the new values and this becomes the new benchmark for operating this particular Array. Operator Control Panel: 5.1 MAIN MENU SYSTEM IDLE Pressing the MAIN MENU button on the operator panel will bring up the Main Menu screen onto the four line message display and take the system out of the Run Mode. The screen will display the following: Main Menu- System Idle Run Mode Controller Parameters Array Evaluation By default the cursor will be on Run Mode so using the up and down arrows, the cursor will be moved to a different selection. 7
5.2 ARRAY EVALUATION AND VERIFICATION The system must be in Fault Latching Mode. (see SETTING CONTROLLER PARAMETERS page 10) From the Main Menu, use the Down Arrow to move the cursor to Array Evaluation and press ENTER. The display will show Channel 1 thru 4. Move the cursor to the channel desired and press ENTER. You have the choice to perform the Array Evaluation and reset the baseline performance parameters or to select Verify Evaluation. Move the cursor up or down to make the choice and press ENTER to begin the process. The selected Array will be cycled several times with steps of increasing light intensity. Data is internally collected and a line is computed from that data. Slope (m), y intercept (b) and linear regression (r) are displayed at the conclusion of the Evaluation for that channel. When the Verify Evaluation is done some time later, the new m, b and r numbers are displayed on the same screen as the original Evaluation data for a visual comparison. During normal Run Mode operation, the data is used to tell the controller how that particular Array reacts to current/voltage so that current control is precisely maintained at any light intensity setting. 5.3 SETTING CONTROLLER PARAMETERS CHANNEL PARAMETERS From the Main Menu, use the Down Arrow to move the cursor to Controller Parameters and press ENTER. The display will give the option for CHANNEL Parameters or SYSTEM parameters. Press ENTER with the cursor on CHANNEL Parameters and the display will show Channel 1-4. Move the cursor to the channel desired and press ENTER. The screen will be displaying the Channel number and mode, the type of Array that is connected, the cycle time and intensity % settings. 8
Channel Mode With the cursor on Channel, press enter to change modes. Using the up or down arrows step through the selections: DISABLED, TIMER or MOMENTARY. Press ENTER to make the choice. If TIMER is selected, the cycle On Time in msec is displayed on the third line of the screen. For Channels 2-4 another mode is possible: SLAVE. When any channels are in SLAVE mode, they will come on for the duration of Channel 1 which acts as the MASTER for this mode. Any channel that is set up in either TIMER or MOMENTARY mode will work independently using its own footswitch to trigger the cycle. Array Type The array type is automatically detected when it is connected via the 26 pin communications cable to the controller or expansion unit. The light pattern and the wavelength of that array are displayed. If no array is connected, the type is undefined. On Time (msec) If the channel mode is TIMER, the current on time for a cure cycle is displayed. If the mode is SLAVE, the cycle time will come from the Channel 1 timer value. To change the cycle time, use the down arrow to move the cursor to ON TIME and press enter. Move the cursor right or left to position over the digit to be modified and use the up and down arrows to change the value. When done press ENTER. The time displayed is in milliseconds so, for example, 5.2 seconds will be displayed as 5200 milliseconds. Intensity % Each Channel has its own intensity setting. This allows for precise adjustment between different arrays to dial in each one so all have exactly the same light output. To change the Channel Intensity, use the down arrow to move the cursor to INTENSITY % and press enter. Move the cursor right or left to position over the digit to be modified and use the up and down arrows to change the value. When done press ENTER. The maximum allowed value is 100% SYSTEM PARAMETERS From the Main Menu, use the Down Arrow to move the cursor to Controller Parameters and press ENTER. The display will give the option for CHANNEL Parameters or SYSTEM parameters. Press ENTER with the cursor on SYSTEM Parameters and the display will show if the Fault Latching feature or the POWER UP RUN is ENABLED or DISABLED. Move the cursor and press ENTER to change either of these with UP and DOWN arrows and Press ENTER to accept. 9
FAULT LATCHING ENABLED means the system cannot run in any fault condition, it comes out of the RUN MODE and indicates the nature of the FAULT. CLEAR FAULT button must be pressed before restarting after the FAULT has been corrected. FAULT LATCHING DISABLED means the system will indicate faults on each cycle but the next start trigger clears the fault (except for over temp faults) and allows the system to continue to run. Restarting does not require operator intervention. POWERUP RUN DISABLED means the system will display the Main Menu after power is turned on and from there the RUN MODE can be selected. POWERUP RUN ENABLED means after any power up of the system, it automatically goes into the RUN MODE awaiting a trigger signal. Pressing MAIN MENU or the occurrence of any FAULT (with Fault Latching Enabled) will take the system out of RUN MODE. 5.4 RUN MODE After the ARRAY EVALUATION and CONTROLLER PARAMETERS have been set, return to the Main Menu and the cursor will be over the RUN MODE selection. Notice that the SYSTEM READY light on the operator panel will be illuminated (green) if all the enabled channels are properly connected. Press ENTER and the system will go into the Run Mode awaiting a Start Signal from a footswitch or external signal to begin. The display will show the Channel Modes for each enabled channel. Press the MAIN MENU button to exit the Run Mode and stop operations. 5.5 INDICATORS AND MESSAGES Green LED System Ready This panel light on the controller indicates that at least one channel is enabled and that the connections to the Array are proper. There is another green light on the front of the Array that also lights when the channel is enabled and connected. For Channels 2-4 an Expansion module is needed. The green light on the front panel of the Expansion module lights when that channel is enabled. Blue LED Cure Light On This light illuminates whenever any LED Array is ON Red LED Fault When trying to enter the run mode, the Red Fault light will come on if no channels are enabled. A text message is displayed explaining the fault. 10
If at any time, the Array fails to reach the desired output current, the Red Fault light will illuminate. A text message is displayed to specify the problem and the Channel affected. If any of the Arrays overheat, the channel will shut down and the Red Fault light will illuminate. A text message indicates which Array has the problem. LIST OF ERROR MESSAGES: The channel is immediately turned off for any of these reasons. After fixing the problem, messages are cleared by pressing the CLEAR FAULT button which clears the error text message from the display and returns to the Main Menu. ARRAY 1-4 OVER MAX VOLTAGE ARRAY 1-4 OVER MAX CURRENT ARRAY 1-4 COMMANDED VOLTAGE OVER MAX RANGE ARRAY 1-4 OVER CURRENT TRIP NO ARRAYS CONNECTED NO ARRAYS ENABLED ARRAY 1-4 NOT CONNECTED ARRAY 1-4 DISABLED ARRAY 1-4 CALIBRATION OUT OF LIMIT ARRAY 1-4 NO FAN VOLTAGE ARRAY 1-4 CURRENT LOW ARRAY 1-4 CURRENT HI ARRAY 1-4 THERMAL FAULT ARRAY 1-4 INTERLOCK OPEN CAUTION: The LED Array is best suited for vertical use with the light exiting downward. This gives the assembly the most efficient cooling. Horizontal use is also acceptable but the unit will run a bit hotter. Vertical use with the light exiting upward is not recommended unless the duty cycle is less than 80% at 100% output intensity. Exceeding this duty cycle could result in over temperature and THERMAL FAULT conditions. 6 Using External Control 6.1 Using START Inputs for Automation Integration The four START inputs on the rear panel of the Controller are for Footswitch connections, or any contact closure to initiate a cycle. The 9 pin D-SUB connectors utilize pins 1 and 9 to make a contact closure via the footswitch to start a cycle. Pin 1 puts out +5 VDC and pin 9 takes it to ground. 11
In addition, for each channel START input, pins 3&4 provide a N.O. contact that closes to indicate when that channel s Array is ON. Also, pins 6&7 provide a N.C. contact that indicates the system is enabled, ready to run and in the Run Mode with no Faults present. Any system Fault that occurs opens this contact. 6.2 Using MASTER I/O for Automation Integration On the rear panel, the 25 pin D-SUB connector is available to create a single I/O connection point for all channels. The pin out definitions are below: Pin number Description 1 +5 VDC out to start switch, Channel 1 2 Return from start switch, Channel 1 3 Channel 1 Array ON, N.O. contact closure to pin 4 4 Return 5 FAULT, N.C. contact closure to pin 6, opens on any fault 6 Return 7 +5 VDC out to start switch, Channel 2 8 Return from start switch, Channel 2 9 Channel 2 Array ON, N.O. contact closure to pin Return 11 FAULT, N.C. contact closure to pin 12, opens on any fault 12 Return VDC out to start switch, Channel 3 14 Return from start switch, Channel 3 15 Channel 3 Array ON, N.O. contact closure to pin Return 17 FAULT, N.C. contact closure to pin 18, opens on any fault 18 Return VDC out to start switch, Channel 4 20 Return from start switch, Channel 4 21 Channel 4 Array ON, N.O. contact closure to pin Return 23 FAULT, N.C. contact closure to pin 24, opens on any fault 24 Return 25 spare NOTE: Pins 5&6, 11&12, 17&18 and 23&24 have duplicate functions.
