4 System General Quick Selection PannelConnect General is an open communication network designed to connect factory floor devices such as photoelectric sensors, inductive proximity sensors, motorstarters, drives, valve manifolds, and simple operator interfaces together without interfacing through an I/O system. It increases the amount and rate of information flowing from plant floor devices to control systems, and has the potential to substantially reduce wiring costs. Up to 6 intelligent nodes can be connected to one network. The ability to remove and replace devices from the network while under power without a programming tool is a distinct advantage of the network. The network consists of a cabling system that provides both power and communication to nodes. Rockwell Automation offers a number of media products for device connection and communication needs. KwikLink Flat System The KwikLink flat media system provides a simple, modular cabling method with its flat, -wire cable and Insulation Displacement Connectors (IDCs). Designed to promote up to 50% savings in installation costs by offering a drastic reduction in labor and materials, the KwikLink system allows nodes to be added to the network quickly and easily without severing the trunkline. Cutting or stripping of the trunkline is eliminated, as is the need for predetermined cable lengths. KwikLink offers maximum simplicity while still supporting 6 nodes. General Characteristics Round Thick Trunk System Rockwell Automation's round media thick trunk systems are based on the use of thick cable for. Rockwell Automation thick trunk cable allows maximum trunk line distance and is the original system configuration. Thick trunk cable is available in bulk spools or as mini male to mini female cordsets or patchcords in varying lengths. A wide Round Thin Trunk System Rockwell Automation round media thin trunk systems are based on the use of thin cable for. The use of thin cable reduces maximum trunk line distances but allows for a more compact and cost effective installation for some applications. Rockwell Automation thin cable outer jacket material is either grey PVC for standard environments or yellow CPE for additional chemical resistance. Thin trunk cable is available in a wide variety of configurations including raw spools and both micro and mini cordsets and patchcords. Similar to Rockwell Automation thick trunk systems, compatible components include t-ports, DeviceBox, DevicePort, PowerTap, and a multitude of other components and accessories. This rugged industrial connector design incorporates a removable field interface cap in a multitude of connection types including micro, mini pigtail, cable pigtail, open style, and terminator styles, in addition to splice kits for joining two separate flat media trunk sections. KwikLink General Purpose connectors provide a simple low profile two-piece connector design for less demanding industrial applications. These micro style connectors are offered with an extremely pliable flat cable for maximum ease of installation and cable routing and are rated for use in IP67 environments. ArmorBlock MaXum I/O is also specifically designed to provide a direct interface to the KwikLink flat media system. A full complement of accessories is available. 6 System Flat General Quick Selection KwikLink Lite Flat System KwikLink Lite is the new, ODVA-approved solution for wiring networks. This new media makes wiring and cable installation both quick and easy, and extends the network into light-duty, IP0- rated applications. Drop-lines for connecting nodes can be easily added using the unique KwikLink Lite two-piece connectors. Additionally, the cable system supports the intermixing of cable types (thin-round with flat). Flat media was specially made for Insulation Displacement technology providing an alternate solution to media. Flat media has a 300V and A rating. It is suitable in commercial and light industrial environments (E and E noise environments according to MICE standards). This flat media should not be used with shielded cable. Using shielded cable will leave the shield unterminated, resulting in noise issues and a decrease in the overall performance level of the unshielded system. This cable should only be used with KwikLink Lite connectors. Connector, Drop-Line Connector, and Flat to Thin Round Converter, IDC General Quick Selection Must use trunk line connector (85P-KTG) with drop line connector, resistor, and flat to thin round converter Must use crimp tool for assembly The trunk line connector (which is configured quickly to create a drop off the main trunk) can be placed anywhere along the trunk. The drop line connector is plugged into the trunk line connector and creates a drop with flat media enabling the use of a 5-pin open style connector to plug directly into a node. So, based on the size of the flat cable conductors, the maximum current through the network must be no more than 8 A. For applications requiring 8 A in the field, a Class rated flat cable is available. The Class KwikLink cable is UL Listed for 600V and 8 A at V DC. For optimal chemical resilience and superior protection in harsh environments, KwikLink Class cable also features a TPE jacket for maximum toughness with excellent flexibility. Class (CL) Cable: For less demanding applications at lower currents, a PVC jacketed Class cable is available. More flexible than the CL cable, this design adheres to NEC Article 75, which states that for a Class circuit, the power source must have a rated output of less than 30V and 00V A. In the case of, running at V, the maximum allowable power is then 00V A/V or A. Therefore, KwikLink CL cable is rated to A at V DC. This cable can be used with all flat cable connectors. Auxiliary Power Cable (CL): In some cases, it may be desirable to run an auxiliary bus to power outputs (i.e. valves, actuators, indicators). To support such an application, a black PVC power cable for use with KwikLink connectors is provided. The KwikLink power cable is a Class cable capable of supplying V of output power with currents up to 8 A. This cable can be used with all flat cable connectors. 14 Flat System KwikLink General Purpose Flat Connectors General Quick Selection PannelConnect KwikLink General Purpose Allen Bradley KwikLink general purpose connectors are the next generation of the original KwikLink. The connectors are designed to interface drop cables to the flat cable trunkline with optimal plug and play capability at minimal cost. The KwikLink general purpose connectors simple two piece design results in a low profile housing and decreases installation time. The connector snaps onto the flat cable at any point along the trunk. Contact is made with the cable's four conductors by tightening four screws that drive the contacts through the cable jacket into the conductors. These connectors are sealed to IP67 requirements and provide a wide working temperature range for application flexibility. KwikLink general purpose connectors, similar to original KwikLink, are designed for single use only and, once installed, should not be removed from the trunkline. The hinged, two piece base snaps snugly around the flat cable at any point along the trunk. Contact is made with the cable's four conductors by tightening two screws that drive the contacts through the cable jacket and into the conductors. The upper portion of the IDC provides the connection to the drop cable and is available in several versions including micro- and open-style connectors. The PowerTap is a passive coupling device used to limit trunk current to agency specified values.
