10 Just Right. Good things come in small packages, like the HG1B operator interface. The full-touch monochrome LCD screen has 48 distinct touch regions with a response time of 300 msec. Not only does it have bitmap and graphic display capabilities or bar graph indicators, you can choose from a library of images and graphics to create the perfect screens. To help you communicate with operators, the HG1B has an internal buzzer and the screen can be configured to flash at different rates depending on the severity of the alarm. The HG1B can link to PLCs or other machines through RS232 or RS485 ports, both built-in, and drivers are also available for non-idec PLCs. 12 New in 2003! Sometimes all you need is a simple text interface, so IDEC offers the HG1X Series of text message displays. The three HG1X models all feature bright, backlit LCD screens, integrated function keys, and a flexible, user-definable program interface. The newest in this family is the eight-line version, a crisp, monochrome display with four function keys, an integrated numeric keypad, and navigation keys. The HG1X 8-line unit requires 24V DC power, and each unit has a serial port for printing screens and alarms. 14 Four By Four. The HG1X four-line text message display takes all the functionality of the larger eight-line display and condenses it. The integrated numeric keyboard makes this an excellent tool for applications requiring frequent data entry into PLC registers. Each of the eight function keys can be programmed for multiple operations using Wind-MSG software. The bright, backlit LCD screen can display data, alarms, errors, and data entry objects in several formats, from simple text to integer, unsigned integer, long integer, or float. Some data can be displayed as a bar graph. The smallest, most affordable model in the HG family, the HG1X two-line display has a bright, backlit LCD screen, and is ideal for interfacing with PLCs that lack integrated displays. The six function keys are user definable for several operations, and can have different functions depending on the active screen; they can also be used to navigate certain screens. HG1X displays are panel mountable, rated UL1604 and UL508, and are compatible with all IDEC PLCs and several other major manufacturers' controllers. They are also CE-marked for international compliance. 18 A Quick O/I Link Compact Flash Support for HG3F/HG4F With IDEC's newest touchscreens and software, it's easy to join multiple O/I units to one PLC with a Master/Slave network. With no extra software, no special cables, and only one additional module, you can create an O/I Link with any HG2F, HG3F, or HG4F and any PLC. Using this communication setup, the Master O/I can read data from the slave O/Is, and the slaves can write to the PLC via the Master. The Master will read data directly from the specified PLC devices and the slaves read through the Master. WindO/I-NV2 comes with all the tools you need to set up an O/I Link, and the only extra hardware you will need is an adapter module (part number HG9Z-2G1) for each touchscreen in the network. IDEC offers software to assist you in programming your HG family interfaces. Both programs use the same intuitive graphic user interface (GUI) and are uniquely tailored to suit the features and requirements of the different O/Is. The programs require a PC with Microsoft Windows 95 or higher, and at least a Pentium-class processor. 18

19 Positive Feedback Tactile Feedback Buttons When you want the flexibility of a touchscreen with the assurance of a pushbutton, then you need the HG2F-C with CC CLICK technology, developed and patented by IDEC Corporation. With CC CLICK, a plastic overlay with four distinct buttons covers the bottom of the screen. These buttons provide the tactile and audio feedback you can't get with other touchscreens, without sacrificing the programming flexibility of the HG2F. Use WindOI/NV 2 to configure the buttons to match your most frequently needed tasks, such as acknowledging alarms, starting or stopping operations, or checking status. Each button can have different functions depending on the active screen. CC CLICK is available only with the HG2F operator interfaces.
