5 Project Key Functional Requirements 9 1. System shall use an NFC tag reader to detect NFC tags 2. System shall use an NFC tag reader to validate three valid and two invalid NFC tags 3. System shall use a fail-secure electric door strike to lock and unlock door 4. System shall use a 5V-DC laptop USB port to power microcontroller, relay board, and the NFC tag reader Project Key Functional Requirement Continued 5. 6 Project Key Operational Requirements System shall open a door by at least 45-degrees by using linear actuator 2. System shall close fully open door by using linear actuator 3. System shall lock door at all time when door fully shuts by using fail-secure electric door strike 4. System shall unlock door only for valid NFC tags by placing any valid NFC tag within 4 inches from the reader Sequential Operational Steps 1. A residence places a valid NFC tag within four inches from the tag reader 2. The microcontroller sends a digital signal to the relay input to unlock the lock connected to the relay s output 3. The microcontroller sends another digital signal to another input of the relay to activate the linear actuator connected to another relay s output 4. The linear actuator cylinder extends to open the door 12 6

7 Sequential Operational Steps Continued 13 5.Once door fully opens to greater than 45-degrees, actuator stops for 3 seconds to allow safe passage through door 6. Afterward, linear actuator cylinder retracts until door shuts completely 7. Once door completely shuts completely, the lock locks 8.
