Apart from this, they cause high maintenance costs. For this reason the CompactPCI is well-suited not only for critical Embedded Systems, but also for rough industrial environments. Proven technical features Three proven technologies PCI Local Bus, Eurocard mechanics and pin connections come together to form essential perequisites for an effective real-time data acquisition in the industrial control, automation or telecommunication. ADDI-DATA: The right partner for your system As for mechanical properties, the CompactPCI is based on the VME bus, i.e. it is protected against vibrations, heat and mechanical shock. The stable mechanics of the CompactPCI and the ADDI-DATA high-quality plug-in boards fulfill the highest requirements to be met in rough industrial environments. ADDI-DATA measurement and communication boards are used for applications that require fast computing speeds, a modular and rugged format as well as an extensive technical support. The ADDI-DATA 3U and 6U Eurocard boards represent a new standard, which can be easily built and configured into every CompactPCI system. Software support Real-time drivers for Windows TM NT, Treiber for Windows TM 2000/98 and LabVIEW TM, LabWindows/CVI TM as well as programming examples for C, PASCAL, Visual Basic, Delphi TM are supplied for a quick and easy programming. Programming of drivers for the real-time operating systems VxWorks and QNX is enabled through the delivery of I/O mapping, the source code and MS-DOS programming examples. Windows-CE drivers are now available for the digital I/O board CPCI-1500, and soon for other ADDI-DATA CompactPCI boards. 3 Data acquisition with Analog CompactPCI boards For the industrial data acquisition and controlling ADDI-DATA has developed the ADDIALOG family including 7 analog PC boards for the CompactPCI bus which are used for process control, measurement and monitoring as well as for multi-channel data acquisition. Different types of conversion (programmable timer, scan or external trigger signal) can support an automatical acquisition and make sure that the PC processor capacity is not fully utilized. Voltage signals and current inputs are measured most accurately up to a resolution of 16-bit. By means of a sequence scan list, the user can determine which analog inputs can be scanned in which order. Gain and input features (measuring rate, single ended/differential, unipolar/bipolar) can be programmed individually for each channel. Combined with the scan list, they allow the optimum settings of each channel according to the measurement requirements. All outputs are protected against short circuits and fitted with EMI filters. Each of the outputs has a separate ground channel. For the processing of digital 24 V signals, additional isolated digital I/O channels are available via a separate connector. 4 Communication with CompactPCI Multiport Boards PC-based communication applications In the automation industry many different tasks have to be performed with devices featuring serial interfaces designed according to the RS232, RS422 and RS485 standards or the 20-mA current loop: microprocessor-controlled devices have to be occasionally parameterized, data has to be cyclically acquired from measuring devices and sensors and so on. For these tasks barcode scanners, magnetic card readers, various types of sensors, counter and speedometer modules, displays, CNC machines, robots, SPC systems and much more are needed. With its ADDICOM board CPCI-7500, ADDI-DATA has developed an electrically isolated serial communication board for the CompactPCI bus with 1 up to 4 ports. Features like the high data throughput, plug-and-play capability and interrupt sharing have made the PCI bus the standard solution for rough industrial applications. Free configuration of the operating mode In order to flexibly adapt the hardware to the diverse requirements coming up in industrial environments, ADDI-DATA has developed a concept with MX modules. The base board is filled with 4 empty module slots, which can be populated according to the user s instructions with modules designed for RS232, RS422, RS485 or 20-mA current loop (TTY) interfaces. Due to the modular set-up each port can be freely configured. In this way the hardware can be adapted optimally to the changing conditions in industrial environments. Apart from such a high degree of flexibility ADDI-DATA has reached another goal: safety for your application. Industry standard communication All MX modules are electrically isolated up to 1 kv to make them interference-proof. In addition, the modules are protected against ESD, burst, and, in the case of the RS485 mode, short circuits. Highlights & features As a standard, data is transferred at rates of up to 115 kbaud, optionally of up to 1 Mbaud. 128-byte FIFO buffers for each channel make sure that even at high transfer rates no data is lost. Due to the common interrupt function there is never a lack of interrupt lines, even with many interfaces installed. Operation made easy The board is delivered with software which enables the user to put it into operation, parameterize it and carry out tests quickly and easily. The 32-bit program for Windows NT 4.0/95/98 automatically recognizes which module is fitted into which slot and displays the occupied resources. With the included standard drivers the interfaces can be accessed as usual COM ports by any kind of software even under Windows NT. Programming examples are supplied for Delphi, Visual Basic and Visual C++. 6 Counting and Control applications with CompactPCI boards The right hardware for your CompactPCI system! The function is not determined by the hardware of the board, but by the user, who decides how the board is to operate in a determined operation place. The board is activated by the user s hand. Its function can be programmed, i.e. determined by the user and therefore adapted to modified conditions at any time. The CPCI-1710 covers a wide range of applications for which formely many different boards were necessary. The functions can be freely combined and adapted to new applications. Software The configuration program SET1710 delivered with the board includes standard applications such as absolute value encoder (SSI: Synchronous Serial Interface), incremental encoders, period duration measurement or frequency measurement. Functions tailored to the user s needs can also be implemented. The board is delivered with drivers for Windows NT/98/95 as well as with programming examples in C, C++, Visual Basic and Delphi. 7 Positioning PC-board Axis control for 4 servo or stepper motors The board CPCI-8001 was developped in order to come up with the growing requirements in axis control and positioning. With this intelligent and flexible board, many control tasks from simple to complicated can be realised. The CPCI-8001 for the PCI bus is designed for the control of up to 8 servo or stepper motor axes and uses a CompactPCI-based CPU. Optical isolated board The baord is fitted with 4 stepper/direction output channels (16-bit D/A channels). They are isolated from the digital current supply and are used for the control of commercially available power amplifiers connected as speed controlling devices or current regulators. Each channel is assigned an input channel used for the connection of all common incremental or SSI encoders for reference switch. Digital PID filters with forward compensation and optional Notch filters or Langham controllers are also involved in the axis control. Applications The "open" controlling concept of the CPCI-8001 is intended in the first place for manufacturers of special-purpose machines and users which need a flexible integretation as well as a CNC solution.
