2 Installation Sheet Description These instructions cover the installation and programming of a MONITOR XL ITI Wireless (RF) module. The ITI Wireless Module communicates with ITI learn mode wireless sensors. They transmit with Frequency Agile MHz spread spectrum radio transmissions. For each sensor s instructions, consult the ITI s instructions packed with each sensor. Each ITI Wireless (RF) Module supports a maximum of 32 wireless sensors (Remember: maximum of 128 input points per MONITOR panel). The ITI wireless module must be connected to the module bus to enable programming. Mount the module centrally to the wireless sensors. Install module away from large metal objects. Mounting the module on metal surfaces will impair performance. This module is intended for indoor use only. Use in outdoor applications may impair performance. Figures Figure 1: System overview Figure 2: Enclosure back plate Figure 3: ITI Wireless Module Power considerations For every 3-4 modules that do not include a power supply (LCD keypad, point expansion, etc.), a supplementary power supply will need to be added (13.7 V, 1 amp regulated). Each P/S will require a suitable transformer, plus a backup battery (as applicable). Tip: Cluster devices close to each power supply to minimize voltage loss through the cabling. Use a multi-meter to ensure adequate voltage is available at each device at least 12.5 volts (with any relays energized) to allow for reasonable battery backup operation during a power failure. Install additional power supplies if needed. Also: Install an isolating diode in the +12 connection(s) at the main panel. Note: For large current-draw devices with built-in power supplies, treat the +12V as a "pass-through". (Connect the incoming and outgoing Module +12 lines together, but do not connect to the +12 inside a door controller cabinet.) Module bus guidelines The RS-485 Module bus allows all expansion modules to communicate with the main panel. It also provides power for a small number of modules, plus auxiliary power for detectors connected to the aux-power outputs on LCD keypads. You can connect up to 24 modules to a system panel (via two bus ports/ connections). Cabling can run up to 610 m / 2000 ft. from each of the provided bus ports. In larger systems, try to reasonably balance the length of cable and number of modules on each port. For longer cable runs, and/or where many expansion modules are connected on one line, a 150 terminating resistor will need to be installed across the A and B communications terminals of the last module on the bus line (on each of the two ports, as applicable). Communications cabling should be a single run (per port as applicable) with modules daisy-chained onto the line. (No multi-splicing into new directions.) Cabling and cable specifications To prevent damage, run cables before mounting the specific modules. Earth Grounds: Recommended: 18 AWG, stranded & insulated. OK: Standard 22 AWG quad cable (use all 4 wires). Module Bus (RS485) Cabling (device comms & power): Recommended: 24 AWG, 4 wires, shielded, 120 impedance, low cap. (e.g., Belden 9842). ULC: 22 AWG, 4 conductors, shielded, low capacitance. Max. Length: Up to 610 m / 2000 ft. of cable on each of the two SNAPP bus ports. Cabling P/Ns: FT4 FT6 Module Bus (shielded) Preferred (24 AWG): ULC (22 AWG): Notes: Max. length may be less w/ 22 AWG. Mounting Use the unit itself as a template to mark a suitable height and location. Then, use screws and anchors as required to mount the unit. (Use 4 screws.) Caution: You must be free of static electricity before handling circuit boards. Wear a grounding strap or touch a bare metal surface to discharge static electricity. 2 / 8 P/N REV B ISS 05JUN14

3 Programming Overview The ITI Receiver has a 5-digit module serial number, attached to the PCB of the daughter board, which is programmed into the system module programming. ITI wireless sensors can be learned into the system through the LCD keypad. For systems with a Feature Set of 5 or above, local configuration programming at an LCD keypad cannot be done. Module enrollment and input point assigning must be done through the Director software and sent to the panel.
