5 GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Linear Actuators are designed to control the position of the fan frame and/or feed gate from the cab. This manual covers instructions specific to linear actuator setup and operation. Refer to the New Leader 7 manual for general operation instructions. This product is intended for commercial use only. 5

6 GENERAL SYSTEM LAYOUT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS The diagram below shows typical components, cables and available options of the 7 linear actuator. System Layout 6

7 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS CONTINUED MODULE CAUTION CAUTION All holes in the truck cab walls, floor and firewall for control wires, hoses and cables are to be grommeted, plugged and sealed to prevent entrance of engine fumes, dust, dirt, water and noise. Make sure drill will not puncture gas tank or harm any other obstruction before drilling holes. Mount actuator module to right side sheet in front of endgate. If holes have not been drilled, see Side Sheet Modification illustration below. Side Sheet Modification After mounting all other system components, connect control cables to the modules (see System Layout illustration on previous page). Be careful to route all wire harnesses where they will be protected from pinching, rubbing, sharp edges and exhaust systems. Use sufficient tie wraps to fasten the harnesses securely. Make sure all components are connected. Attach power cable to battery. Connect red conductor with fuse holder to battery positive and black conductor to ground. 7

8 SETUP APPLICATION FAN FRAME ACTUATOR APPLICATION Fan Frame Calibration This section outlines the fan frame position calibration process. Step 1: Fan Frame Actuator Calibration Press Setup navigation button on right edge of 7 display. Press Application and Controller tab. Select controller from list to make Fan Frame Actuator button visible as shown at left. Press Fan Frame Actuator to start the Fan Frame calibration routine. Step 2: Fan Frame Actuator Calibration Press NEXT. Step 3: Fan Frame Actuator Calibration Check fan frame position on scale and enter as Position 1. Press NEXT. Fan frame should move at this time. 8

9 Step 4: Fan Frame Actuator Calibration SETUP APPLICATION FAN FRAME ACTUATOR Check fan frame position on scale and enter as Position 2. Press NEXT. Step 5: Fan Frame Actuator Calibration Calibration is complete. Press FINISH. 9

10 SETUP APPLICATION FEED GATE ACTUATOR Feed Gate Calibration This section outlines the feed gate position calibration process. Step 1: Feed Gate Actuator Calibration Press Setup navigation button on right edge of 7 display. Press Application and Controller tab shown at left. Select controller from list to make Fan Frame Actuator and Feed Gate Actuator buttons visible. Press Feed Gate Actuator to start the Feed Gate calibration routine. Step 2: Feed Gate Actuator Calibration Press NEXT. Step 3: Feed Gate Actuator Calibration Measure opening from bottom of feed gate to top of conveyor and enter as Position 1. Press NEXT. Feed gate should move at this time. 10

11 Step 4: Feed Gate Actuator Calibration SETUP APPLICATION FEED GATE ACTUATOR Measure feed gate opening and enter as Position 2. Press NEXT. Step 5: Feed Gate Actuator Calibration Calibration is complete. Press FINISH. 11

12 APPLICATION Spreader Control Actuator Settings RUN APPLICATION SPREADER CONTROL This section covers actuator controlled fan frame and feed gate settings. Refer to the applicator setup and spread pattern testing manuals to understand each settings impact on accurate product application and machine performance. Refer to the 7 manual for other spreader control instructions. IMPORTANT! The Spread Width, Spinner Speed and Fan Frame settings can only be accurately determined by performing a spread pattern catch test. Spreader Screen for Single Product Granular Application IMPORTANT! Actual spreader settings must be verified and 7 values changed accordingly, prior to product application. Use the calibration wizards as described under Setup Application to make sure the fan frame and feed gate are positioned as set. Setting Fan Frame Feed Gate 1 Opening Description Represents the fan frame position required for accurate product placement in relation to the spread width setting. Represents the feed gate opening being used for product application. Check the Fan Frame box if an actuator is installed. This will allow the system to automatically adjust fan frame position to the setting entered. Check the Feed Gate box if an actuator is installed. This will allow the system to automatically adjust the feed gate opening to the setting entered. 12

13 RUN APPLICATION SPREADER CONTROL When the fan frame or feed gate setting is different from its current position, the following warning will appear: Linear Actuator Movement The fan frame or feed gate may move at IMPORTANT! this time. Please keep everyone clear of the fan frame and feed gate. OK Actuator Movement Message The message in red at the top of the screen will show which actuator is Out of Position. Press OK when the area is clear to allow the actuator to reposition. 13

14 TROUBLESHOOTING Problem: Application rate per acre is incorrect Feed gate position doesn t match setting Fan frame position doesn t match setting Cause/Solution: 1. Check that actual feedgate opening matches active configuration setting. 2. Check that actual spread width and driving centers match active configuration setting. 3. See troubleshooting section of controller manual. 1. Calibrate feed gate per instructions under Feed Gate Calibration in Setup Application section. 2. Check connections. 3. Faulty sensor. 1. 15 INSTRUCTIONS FOR ORDERING PARTS Order from the AUTHORIZED DEALER in your area. 1. Always give the pertinent model and serial number. 2. Give part name, part number and the quantity required. 3. Give the correct address to where the parts are to be shipped, and the carrier if there is a preference. Unless claims for shortages or errors are made immediately upon receipt of goods they will not be considered. Any part returns should be directed through the dealer from which they were purchased. When broken goods are received, a full description of the damage should be made by the carrier agent on the freight bill. If this description is insisted upon, full damage can always be collected from the transportation company. No responsibility is assumed for delay or damage to merchandise while in transit. Our responsibility ceases upon delivery of shipment to the transportation company from whom a receipt is received showing that shipment was in good condition when delivered to them, therefore, claims (if any) should be filed with the transportation company and not with Highway Equipment Company. If your claims are not being handled (by the transportation company) to your satisfaction, please call the Parts Manager at Highway Equipment Company ( ) for assistance. 15
