23 Commissioning Key Learning Precommissioning Wherever feasible, the interfaces should be tested prior to final commissioning Sequence of works SCADA commissioning is often programmed last but forms an integral part of the Flexible Plug and Play connection and should be delivered earlier G59 Witnessing The commissioning of the flexible plug and play equipment needs to be complete before the G59 witnessing Acceptance Period The flexible plug and play equipment will be operational over the customer acceptance period 23
24 Case Study: On-site Wind Generation Project Key Learning Precommissioning not possible Availability of technical resources Agreed intention to complete Flexible Plug and Play / turbine interface early, but struggled to engage with turbine control system supplier until later in process Final design completed later in the project due to the availability of technical resources from both project teams Satisfied overall Overall, Flexible Plug and Play offered a satisfactory and costeffective connection solution for the project Clear communication Familiarity with concepts was beneficial Progress throughout the entire process was well communicated by UK Power Networks project manager Wind Prospect were familiar with Flexible Plug and Play concepts and able to facilitate technical interface design between contractors - other customers may be less comfortable with Flexible Plug and Play issues 24
25 Key achievements of Flexible Plug and Play Engaged with 50+ DG developers Interviewed 20 Commissioned RF mesh wireless network for wide area comms Trialled two DG access principles: LIFO and Pro rata capacity quota Integrated and commissioned smart devices across 12 sites Made 40 connection offers: 15 accepted, 54.4MW enabled, 44m savings Developed analysis tool for investment options in DG dominated networks Installed and commissioned first quad-booster at 33kV Deployed IEC for interoperability between solution components Successful deployment of new commercial arrangements and interoperable smart grid components to deliver faster and cheaper DG connections For more information visit ukpowernetworks.co.uk/innovation 25
