2 Basic Tech Fee Overview The Basic Technlgy Fee, r BTF, is a campus-wide fee created t prvide a sustainable surce f funding in rder t refresh and supprt technlgy resurces fr the University. Histrically and prir t the BTF, each SIUC unit/department was independently respnsible fr basic technlgy csts. Further, fundamental infrastructure and services like Internet, cre ruting and switching, Wi-Fi, security, and strage were either insufficiently funded by anther means r funds were simply nnexistent. With the cntinuing centralizatin f technlgy services and persnnel acrss campus, it was determined that technlgy csts shuld be centralized as well. SIUC established the BTF as a mechanism t charge these csts back t units in a standardized and predictable way. BTF Calculatin The amunt f the BTF is calculated per full-time equivalent, r FTE, and charged t each unit. The csts are determined based n the same data used fr the calculatin f grup health insurance. Emplyees are classified as either high usage r ther based upn jb classificatin. Graduate assistants and student emplyees are nt included in the calculatin. BTF Distributin Details f csts are prvided t the Vice Chancellrs fr further distributin t their units each spring, fr the cming Fiscal Year. The fee is billed quarterly alng with the grup health insurance billing. Basic BTF Cverage The BTF cvers the basic technlgy needs f faculty and staff, including: 1. Data Netwrk Services 2. Prductivity Sftware, Tls, and Services 3. Desktp Replacement Hardware (currently suspended) 4. Data Center Services (See Basic Technlgy Fee Virtual Machine (VM) Services) 5. Private Clud Services 6. Infrmatin Security Services 7. Telecmmunicatins Services Services Outside BTF Cverage/Additinal Charges The OIT supplies the University with a wide array f tls and services that are nt funded by the BTF. These additinal services may be funded by ther areas f the OIT, may be prvided by OIT n a fee fr service basis, r may be the sle respnsibility and cst f an individual unit. All existing active netwrk prts will be included in the fee. New prts will be limited t ne per individual. Extra prts will be an additinal cst. Wireless netwrk. New cnstructin and remdeling prjects pay fr the initial installatin and equipment cst. Equipment t be determined by OIT. Internet 1 and Internet 2 cnnectivity (included, but nt currently funded by BTF). Windws 10, Enterprise (32-bit r 64-bit). Windws 8 Enterprise (32-bit r 64-bit). Windws 7 Enterprise (32-bit r 64-bit). Micrsft Office 2016 & Hme Use Prgram (HUP) - Micrsft Office prgrams t use n their hme cmputer fr bth wrk and persnal use at a nminal cst ($9.95). Enterprise Client Access Licenses (CALs). Windws Server CAL. Micrsft SharePint Server Standard CAL. Micrsft Exchange Server Standard CAL. Skype fr Business Enterprise CAL. Windws Server Active Directry Rights Management Services CAL. Page 2

The InCmmn Federatin is the U.S. educatin and research identity federatin, prviding a cmmn framewrk fr trusted shared management f access t nline resurces. Cmd SSL (server) certificates fr web sites frm Incmmn. Shibbleth fr single sign n (web applicatins). Desktp Replacement (currently suspended) When funding is available, desktp hardware and equipment is included in the BTF. Currently, the replacement prgram is suspended due t insufficient funding. A standard Dell PC will be replaced n a 5-year cycle fr each full-time staff wrkstatin. Any deviatins frm the standard wrkstatin and cycle will be up-charged. The number f cmputers fr each department will be set at the beginning f the Fiscal Year. Any additins during the fiscal year will be up-charged. Specificatins fr Dell standards wrkstatins are updated every year. Each standard PC will include mnitr, keybard, muse, and sund bar. Printers and all ther hardware are nt included. Page 3

5 Data Center Services These Data Center Services are included in the BTF: Basic rack space - includes entry and mid-level servers up t 4 rack units in size. Rack munting kit must als be prvided by department. Virtual Machine Services. Generatr and UPS backup. Fire suppressin. Physical security. On-site mnitring f data center security and envirnmental cnditins. One 1GB netwrk cnnectin per server. Standard pwer, meaning 110V/208V single-phase, cnnectin; tw per server. Basic hands-n services. Basic service supprt that des nt require the pening f a server case. Mnitring f servers lcated in the datacenter. Private Clud Services These Private Clud Services are included in the BTF: Web Services - web Infrastructure system administratin in supprt f University Cmmunicatins management f University-wide web sites. SharePint Online (Micrsft hsted) web applicatin platfrm fr cllabratin, dcument management, wrkflw t be used by departments. A nminal amunt f strage will be included at n additinal charge. Cnventinal file services (files.siu.edu) Each department will receive a nminal amunt f strage free f charge based n department size fr typical file based strage (Wrd, Excel, typical files). Faculty and staff will receive a quta (2GB) based hme directry fr strage. Print Spler Service - centralized, redundant print spler fr Windws cmpatible clients (Windws 7 r higher). Departmental ID s, which are Netwrk IDs that begin with 9, fr specific department rles at n charge pending Infrmatin Security apprval. All data fr virtual r hsted services that utilize the IT managed strage will include data backups with a minimum f 30 days retentin. Data backup service fr cllege and department servers nt utilizing the OIT managed strage is nt available. Page 4

Updates and patches fr PCs running Micrsft Windws including OS, Micrsft Office, anti-virus and cmmn third party applicatins. Security assessments f servers. Incident respnse. Security cnsulting. Multi-Factr authenticatin services. Scam/phishing prtectin. Data Lss Preventin. Telecmmunicatins Services These Telecmmunicatins Services are included in the BTF: Phne hardware. Dial tne phne number. These additinal services may be funded by ther surces available t the Office f Infrmatin Technlgy (OIT), may be prvided by OIT n a fee fr service basis, r may be the sle respnsibility and cst f an individual unit. General Technlgy Services--Additinal Charges These General Technlgy Services are nt included in the BTF, but are available at an additinal charge. Cntact the OIT fr infrmatin n csts by entering a service request at Desktp Supprt Desktp Supprt (in mst cases desktp supprt will be prvided by existing OIT staff already lcated in the unit). Supprt and trubleshting fr nn-oit centralized cllege and department servers r sftware. Specialized Sftware and Sftware Develpment The cst f unique r specialized sftware. Custm applicatin develpment. Custm applicatin develpment assistance develping custm applicatin (web, mbile, scripting, etc.) may be prvided t clleges, departments, and/r units upn request. Cst will be determined at time f request. Supplies, Materials, and Labr There will be an upcharge fr a variety f materials and services. The upcharge applies t any nnstandard item r service. Example; a standard desktp cmputer with mnitr may cst $900. A persn in graphics design may need a unique mnitr which makes the purchase price $1,400. The Desktp Replacement Prgram, which is funded by the BTF, wuld cntribute $900 t the purchase and the department wuld pay the $500 upcharge. Printers, paper, and tner cartridges. A separate printer service is available at an additinal charge. Additinal hands-n services beynd thse scped as basic. Security Services--Additinal Charges These Security Services are nt included in the BTF, but are available at an additinal charge. Telecmmunicatin Services--Additinal Charges These Telecmmunicatins Services are nt included in the BTF, but are available at an additinal charge. Outside vendr csts (Frntier, AT&T, etc.) FX numbers. Off premise extensins. T1 s. Fire alarm circuits (2 wire r 4 wire circuit charges). Trunks. Elevatr phnes (dial tne and hardware). Curtesy phnes (Residence Halls) (dial tne and hardware). All materials and services prvided t nn-siu entities, fr example Steak & Shake, Chartwells, etc., residing n campus. Custmer will pay fr TDM (traditinal) fax hardware and assciated cst shuld they chse nt t use the included virtual fax service. Custmer will pay fr trubleshting and repair fr situatins where there is vert intentinal damage t the hardware r wiring. Page 7
