2 FP7 CBRN- Where do we stand? Around 350 FP7 SEC CBRN (of which 70 are classified) MAPPING UNDER WAY 1. Prevention, Preparedness, Protection Antibodies (botulinum toxins), protecting equipment (individual collective), understanding the cascading effect, modelling and simulation 2. Detection Early alert systems, CBRN detection (sensors, online) and identification, reference materials, standardisation, PTs, mobile CBRN labs 3. Response, crisis management Toolbox for CBRN crisis management, Survivors search and rescue, biodosimetry, psychological & sociological support, decontamination of large groups, toolbox for pandemics, CBRN forensics 4. Recovery post-crisis damage and needs assessment tool, reconstruction and recovery planning, decontamination of (individuals, assets or food/water supplies) + EDEN: Light House in the CBRN-E research sector

3 CBRN(E) in Horizon2020 (1) 2014 DRS Tools for detection, traceability, triage and individual monitoring of victims after a mass CBRN contamination and/or exposure with dual-use applications: Integrating existing tools and procedures along the development of novel solutions in order to rapidly determine, in case of accidents or terrorist attack, if victims have been exposed/contaminated or not (by a CBRN agent), what is the level of contamination/exposure, and developing a decontamination/ treatment/medical follow-up Possible synergies with EDA (dual-use), active involvement of end-users, possible use of classified information, EU contribution from 5 to 12 M DRS /2015 SME instrument topic: Protection of Urban soft targets: Smallscale demonstration of innovative technologies and tools to reduce vulnerability of urban soft targets (areas where large number of citizens are freely admitted, e.g. parks, markets, stations, historical, religious, educational centres, etc.), including screening of people and their bags, vehicles, potential CBRN-E threats. Feasibility study (phase 1) with a lump sum of 50,000, Innovation projects in phase 2 with EU contribution from 1 to 2.5 M (possibility to go straight to Phase 2).

4 CBRN(E) in Horizon2020 (2) 2015 DRS Addressing standardisation opportunities in support of increasing disaster resilience in Europe: Assessment of feasibility and expected impacts of standardisation in the crisis management & CBRN-E areas, taking into considerations priorities defined under the MP487 mandate. Standardisation roadmap post 2016 Coordination and Support Action DRS Protecting potentially hazardous and sensitive sites/areas considering multi-sectorial dependencies: Analysis of risks and strength/vulnerabilities, development and testing of qualitative methods, impact evaluation from a Seveso type accident (cascades effect) to improve preparedness and decision-making related to the potential severity of a CBRN-E accident Innovative Action, EU contribution from 2 to 5 M. FCT Mobile, remotely controlled technologies to examine a crime scene in case of an accident or a terrorist attack involving CBRN-E materials: Development of mobile, remotely controlled technologies to enable the assessment of hazardous scenes where the deployment of personnel is difficult as a result of an accident or terrorist attack, including verification of CBRN-E materials. Possible dual-use applications in synergy with EDA, active involvement of end-users, possible use of classified information, EU contribution from 5 to 12 M

10 Meeting aiming to: Initiate the organisation of regular "SPI" meetings to be held in Brussels twice a year (after the publication of calls for proposals and after results of evaluations are publicly known): o o Bringing policy DGs and science/industry representatives together for exchanging information about policy and FP7/Horizon2020 updates, followed by gathering of research projects representatives Ensure that information is widely spread through (1) webstreaming of the meetings, (2) annual summary of key policy features and developments, project updates (only key findings), new projects etc., and (3) mapping key players involved in EU and EDA projects, with contact details Link to webstreaming facility to boost the visibility of the events and improve communication of updated information in the policy and research sectors 10
