3 Session 1: Building Smart Sustainable Cities From Vision to Reality and Future Perspective main conclusions Sustainability is key to smart cities. ITU-T Study Group 20 provides a well-structured hierarchical structure where all the stakeholders can meet and develop standards that enable IoT deployment Citizen should be in the center of any smart city project. They enable data-driven decisions by the municipalities. Resilient infrastructure is critically important Centralized planning and public-private partnership allow comprehensive implementation and efficient use of resources Capacity building is essential to enable deployment of IoT technologies 3 Санкт-Петербург, июня 2017

4 Session 2: Use Cases of Smart Sustainable Cities main conclusions Key factors to enable IoT: connectivity, cloud computing, big data and trust Typical smart cities and societies use cases: road control, mobile sensing (collecting data through smartphones of individuals) Challenges in implementing smart services at the national level include poor coordination between public entities, lobbyism, fragmented ecosystem and lack of resources Set of rules is required prior to wide IoT deployment, otherwise we will face huge cybersecurity risks 4 Санкт-Петербург, июня 2017

5 Sessions 3 and 4: Security and Trust in Smart Sustainable Cities main conclusions Data are the main asset in the modern era Key challenges for trust in IoT are: highly interconnected IoT infrastructure; assuring continuous trustworthiness; data transparency; trust, security and privacy become tightly coupled; integration of the physical, cyber, and social worlds Threats are expected to be huge, highly probable and diversified due to high complexity of IoT systems and large number of devices Challenges in defining trust lies in the fact that there is no agreement on how to distinguish between the antecedents of trust & the construct of trust itself 5 Санкт-Петербург, июня 2017

6 Sessions 3 and 4: Security and Trust in Smart Sustainable Cities main conclusions In the rush to monetize customer data, companies risk diminishing trust users have in their products & services. Trust should be considered as more valuable than customer data Identification systems are essential enabler for trustworthy IoT solutions Cooperation between public entities at national level is critical for cybersecurity There are many proven cases of remote hacking of modern cars Measures should be implemented at both software and hardware levels to mitigate the risks related to remote car hacking 6 Санкт-Петербург, июня 2017

7 Session 5: Data Processing and Management to Support Smart Sustainable Cities main conclusions Smart cities and communities allow to increase citizen engagement and enable datadriven applications Mature smart city enables individual citizens, businesses, NGOs and the municipality itself to both contribute and extract data, and to create and make use of applications based on that data Successful smart city use cases already exist in such areas as built environment, water and wastewater, waste, energy, transportation, education, health, socio-economic development, public safety, policing and emergency response 7 Санкт-Петербург, июня 2017
