3 TMS Metrics / Analytics March 2017 Previously TxDOT Engineering Ops dashboard had 13 metrics, none on Traffic Management Published three priority metrics on Eng Ops dashboard Asset uptime %, incident clearance time, and level of travel time reliability Automating collection of display of Metrics Completed automation of metrics via Lonestar (first two metrics) and working on automating the INRIX data (Level of Travel Time Reliability) Expanding Metrics outside of the Metros Started with three metrics in the metros and expand to other districts in a staged approach over next year or two During Hurricane Harvey, the operational status of the equipment in the impacted regions was reported to TxDOT Admin daily Focusing on starting with performance metrics dashboard for coastal districts and hurricane evacuation routes Traffic Management Systems November

5 TMS Metrics / Analytics March TMS metrics implemented in FY 2017 TMS Asset Operational Uptime- measure how Districts maintain their traffic management equipment, is the most critical metric to improve in the short-term Incident Clearance Times- Measure mobility on our system, driven by District incident management processes in collaboration with regional partners Level of Travel Time Reliability- An FHWA MAP-21 recommendation, to measure impact on the public from traffic management strategies applied to on-system roads e.g. work zone management, DMS, etc. TMS System Coverage- Measure and understand what portion of onsystem roadways are adequately covered with ITS equipment and communications, or where coverage needs to be expanded Traffic Management Systems November

6 Tableau TxDOT s Data Visualization & Analytics Tool Why we bought Tableau and what does it do for us? Provides self-service analytics capabilities. Very powerful tool, can be used to used to quickly identify areas of strength & weaknesses. Data Lake Infrastructure Data Lake infrastructure has been stood up and being used to generate 3 metrics. Tableau Rollout and Training Schedule Available to TRF and the traffic sections of the Metro Districts Target completion in end of Nov 2017 for the rollout to the rest of the Districts. 11 Every Day Counts (EDC) 4 Program Every Day Counts (EDC) 4 Program Accelerated Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Data Collection to Improve Overall Traffic Incident Management Goal is to increase the amount, consistency and quality of TIM data collection to support development of performance measures for evaluating and improving traffic incident response. Five Key Issues: How can we capture more incidents on the freeway? How can we optimize TMC staffing and activities? How can we better record incident response as it happens? How can we better identify where TIM resources are needed? How can we show the benefits of incident management?
