13 Global Hawk Operations Global Hawk imagery provides high resolution day time imagery as well as infrared for night or thermal detection Electro-optical (EO) imagery Infrared (IR) imagery 13 These images cover the same target t from the same angle at slightly different times. The IR image shows light rectangles in the parking lot which show that a vehicle recently moved from that spot leaving a cool thermal shadow visible to an infrared camera. Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited: 88ABW , 26 February 2016; Northrop Grumman
14 Global Hawk Operations Global Hawk can collect EO or IR imagery simultaneously with SAR providing unique intelligence collection possibilities Electro-optical Synthetic Aperture Radar 14 These images cover the same target location both in EO and SAR which provides the unique characteristics of both imaging methods to give a different level of situational awareness for intelligence exploitation Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited: 88ABW , 26 February 2016; Northrop Grumman
15 Global Hawk Evolution Global Hawk is modernizing and delivering several new capabilities Improving Mission Reliability Integrating the Garmin GSX-70 radar system for weather avoidance Flight testing and studies to determine the impact of icing Improving Mission Capabilities Demonstrations of legacy high altitude sensors Integration of new sensor capabilities Improving System Sustainability Ground station being modernized to use open system architecture using commercial off-the-shelf hardware Communications system being studied for improvements that enhance security and assure communications 15 Global Hawk is Modernizing to Increase Reliability, Capability and Sustainability Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited: 88ABW , 26 February 2016; Northrop Grumman
16 Global Hawk Innovation Global Hawk is being used as a pathfinder program demonstrating a new paradigm in the use of enlisted USAF aircrew to control aircraft We re targeting Global Hawk Operations. Today we re focusing on ISR. We ll see where it goes from there. Lieutenant General Jay Raymond, USAF What we learn from flying Global Hawks with Enlisted pilots under the supervision of rated Officers will inform whether we apply a Similar Approach to other weapon systems. General Mark Welsh, USAF Chief of Staff 16 Global Hawk s Advanced Capabilities Enable New Employment Opportunities Approved for Public Release, Distribution Unlimited: 88ABW , 26 February 2016; Northrop Grumman
