2 Introduction ICT adoption in health in India dates back to late nineties in the form of indigenous technology development for HMIS & Telemedicine Deployment followed in due course First policy initiative taken up during 11 th Five Year Plan ( ) followed by 12 th Plan ( ) Several Green Field projects in place and several in different stages of Development System adoption of ICT in progress

4 National Rural Telemedicine Network Design, development and implementation of Low cost rural telemedicine infrastructure Village Tele-ambulance System and rural emergency healthcare services / Trauma care module Rural Health Knowledge Resource through web portal and e-cme module Technology platform for harvest, compilation, storage (Data Base) at Regional District Hub and Central Data Center at MOH & FW, archive and distribution across network

5 Mother and Child Tracking System (MCTS) Initiative of Ministry Health & Family Welfare Launched in the year 2010 To ensure tracking of every pregnant woman and child in the country for healthcare delivery services so as to bring down maternal and infant mortality Registered more that 10 mn pregnant women and 5 mn children, already MCTS is monitored on a daily basis Launch of MCTS by Hon ble Union Minister for Health & FW

6 A State Government Initiative : e-mamta Initiated by Gujarat State Government It is a management tool to track the health service delivery at the individual level The system aims to help the service provider (health worker or Doctor) by categorizing various health services

7 Govt. of India Strategy for ICT applications in Health during 12 th Five Year Plan ( ) Access to CME and skill up-gradation programmes, as well as back-up support on Telemedicine Deployment of Countrywide Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) The use of ICT in health education, public health status analysis and expansion of health related research All District hospitals linked by telemedicine channels to leading tertiary care centres m-health, the use of mobile phones to speed up transmission

11 To Summarize. Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Govt. of India has been promoting and financing ICT adoption in health systems Several states have been funded under NRHM for developing HMIS, MCTS and Telemedicine MOHFW, Govt. of India is implementing projects in Diseases Surveillance, Mother & Child Tracking System, NCDs (Ophthalmology, Cancer etc.), HRH (Education and Skill development through NMCN)

Planning Commission developed strategy and policy for HMIS, m-health, Telemedicine, IDSP, File Tracking System,, e-governance to improve health systems Implementation Guidelines have been defined for each projects in consultation with Technical Committees Govt. of India is providing NKN with high speed bandwidth connectivity to all educational institutions in the country including Medical Colleges, provided State Wide Area Network with connectivity from State to block level and now providing national Optical Fibre Network with high speed bandwidth connectivity from block to village level MoHFW shall leverage these Initiatives for NMCN, National Rural Telemedicine Network, m-health, Telemedicine on wheels
