2 Syllabus Instructor: Lewis Franklin Lecture / Lab # : RM.SSH-116D Monday & Wednesday 2:00-4:50 Course Description: Introduces Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator for image manipulation and creation. Students will be introduced to tools used in both applications. Investigate capturing, processing and publishing for different digital image types. Projects will investigate various aspects of shapes, paths, points, fills and gradients. Emphasis will be placed on file management, printing and color management. Student projects, notebooks, reading and exams will be required to complete the class. Course Outcomes: Create a vector illustration. Use layers effectively in file construction. Identify and minimize safety threats in the work place. Create and export Photoshop documents. Use Photoshop to repair and or modify images. Use opacity and blending modes for Online an print documents. Identify file types and file size management. Credits: 4 credits, 6 hours of class per week. 3 Syllabus Cont... Article Review: The article review (1) for Fall term will be on an illustrator. There is a separate handout for this project. Method of Evaluation: The method of evaluation will be based upon completion of all assigned projects, a midterm, a final,one article review and a class notebook. Cheating and Plagiarism: You are required to do 100% of your own work from start to finish. This means that you may not use any part of the work done by another student or give your work to another student. If you are involved in any kind of cheating or plagiarism then you will be subject to discipline, up to and including automatically failing the assignment, failing the course or disciplinary action by the Dean of Students. Please refer to the LBCC Student Code of Conduct. Grading: A: % B: 80-89% C: 70-79% D: 60-69% F: 50% and below please consider a different field I do not issue Y grades and Inc grades will require a valid reason. LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED BUT CAN NOT BE REWORKED. I will conduct a one-on-one with each student at the mid-term point. This will serve as a notebook review and allow some feed-back on the class and your success level to that point. Your notebook will include all handouts in the order received. It will also include all notes, projects and collected illustrations. You will need to collect 50 illustrations and 50 Photoshoped images then put them into a letter size format so that it will fit in plastic sleeves for your note book. There is a separate handout for the notebook but please note that this is not an Internet image search and print project. You will be responsible for producing a color cover by the mid-point review. Policy: In the event that there is room, those on the wait list will be added in the order that they appear on the wait list I welcome open class discussion, and will be the first to admit I do not know everything. We will progress so as not to loose anyone with this being a first class. My office hours are posted next to my door. 6 Notebook Notebook Minimum Standards: 10 points at mid-term 40 points for final notebook turn in No Later Than your sections final. The notebook will have an original front cover created in Illustrator that contains the basic information of what the notebook is for and whom it belongs to. The first page inside the notebook will be a title page containing the following information: Course name, class number, CRNs Section, term, year Your name Instructor name The second page will be an index page showing where all the materials are located within the notebook. The index will show and list the sections listed below. You can scan images from books that you do not want to damage and then print those. The format is letter size sheets in sheet protectors and you may place up to four illustrations or images on each page.

7 Article Review The article review will be concerning a news article that is at least 3 pages long, on an illustrator. Please use a serif font and at least 12 Pt. type. The actual length of of the review is up to you but I will grade based on content. It would be helpful if you would attach a copy of the article so that I can read it. Watch your due dates and don t wait till the last minute. You are welcome to lay it out however you would like and graphics are welcome. You may use any application to create this document. The following is the minimum to be included in the paper so that I can look up your article if need be: Please include a copy of the article if possible. Article Name Magazine, Book title or web address (URL) Page numbers (If periodical, include Volume and Issue) Your name Date Class Number and class title Section # Organize the article in the following format... Introduction Tell me how you found the article, why it struck your interest, and so on... Body Short overview of the article. Closing Tell me about what you learned form the article. This is not a writing course but you are expected to use proper grammar and check your spelling. Due no later than (NLT) Friday October 30th.
