Internet Society Identity Guidelines Introduction This guide provides specifications, camera-ready artwork, and electronic documents for usage and reproduction of the Internet Society Logo and corporate identity materials. It is essential that these guidelines be followed exactly to maintain consistency across a wide range of applications, to support the Internet Society identity, and to protect the integrity of the Internet Society trademarks. Included are guidelines for: Basic Elements of the Internet Society Logo Internet Society esignature and Endorsement Specifications Internet Society Chapter Banner Specifications Typography Internet Society Logo Reproduction Sheet File Formats on the Internet Society Identity Materials CD Internet Society Identity Materials CD Directory
Basic Elements of the Internet Society Logo Nomenclature The Internet Society Logo consists of the Internet Society Wordmark, the Internet Society Symbol, and a trademark registration notice. These three elements constitute the signature of the Internet Society and may not be reproduced separately. When the Internet Society Logo has been registered, an will be substituted for the current TM. Wordmark Symbol Trademark Registration Notice Uniform use of the Internet Society Logo builds visibility and recognition of Internet Society s mission and leadership. Consistent application also protects the Internet Society s legal right of ownership. Clear Area X X Maintain a minimum clear area around the Internet Society Logo equal to X (where X is the height of the upper case I in the Internet Society Wordmark). X X X Color Usage Place color swatch here. Internet Society Blue (Pantone 286) Do not reverse (print in white) the logo. Please note: This color swatch is the only true, calibrated representation of Internet Society Blue (Pantone 286) in this guide. All other color representations in this guide are uncalibrated. Color Formulas for Printers Coated Paper: Pantone Reflex Blue 75% Pantone Process Blue 25% Uncoated Paper: Pantone Reflex Blue 75% Pantone Process Blue 25% Spot Color for Commercial Printing The Internet Society Logo color is Internet Society Blue (Pantone 286). 4 Color Process Commercial Printing To create Internet Society Blue for four color process use: Cyan 100%, Magenta 60%, Yellow 0%, and Black 6%. Black and White Printing When neither Internet Society Blue nor four color process are available, the logo may be printed in black. Web and RGB Usage For electronic and film applications the preferred Internet Society Logo color is 0% Red, 0% Green, and 60% Blue (hex RGB ).
Basic Elements of the Internet Society Logo continued Desktop Color Usage for Informal, Limited Distribution Uncalibrated Desktop Printing Only To preserve the boldness and weight of the Internet Society Logo on uncalibrated systems, Navy or Reflex Blue can be used. Visually match the printed logo to the Internet Society Blue (Pantone 286) color swatch as closely as possible. Preferred Position When possible, the Internet Society Logo should appear in the upper left-hand corner of a page. A second choice is the upper right-hand corner. Usage with Other Logos When used with other logos, for example, to signify co-sponsorship of an event, the Internet Society Logo should be the same size (surface area) and carry the same visual weight as the other logos. When the Internet Society Logo is used as the only organization symbol on materials for events sponsored by the Internet Society (e.g., INET, etc.), the Internet Society Logo should not be less than 70% of the size of the primary event logo, with the surface area covered by each logo being the determinant of size. Incorrect Usage Do not reverse (print in white) the logo. Do not use the logo over a background pattern or photo. Do not use the logo in text as if it is a word. Do not use the logo to create a rebus. Do not split the Wordmark from the Symbol. Do not redraw the symbol or substitute other fonts into the logo. Do not use the logo as a background pattern or supergraphic.
Internet Society esignature and Endorsement Specifications esignature and Endorsement 1 1 /2 Align affiliation category text with leading edge of Internet Society Wordmark. Typesetting Affiliation: 8pt Helvetica Condensed Bold upper and lower case kern to +25/1000 of an em space Size:.6 Proportional to sample Examples:Professional Member Board of Trustees Headquarters Staff Chapitre Français Affiliate Sponsored Event The Internet Society esignature and Endorsement is used by Internet Society auxiliary units, chapters, organizational members, and individuals to signal their affiliation with the Internet Society. All Internet Society Logo Color Usage guidelines apply to Internet Society esignatures and Endorsements. See the guidelines for Basic Elements of the Internet Society Logo. Except for resizing and inserting affiliation category text in the specified font, no alteration to an Internet Society esignature or Endorsement is authorized. Do not redraw the elements or substitute other fonts into an Internet Society esignature or Endorsement. Generic esignature and Endorsement When no particular affiliation text is to be used, use either The Internet is for Everyone or as shown to the left. The text bar at the bottom of the Internet Society esignature and Endorsement should not be left blank.
Internet Society Chapter Banner Specifications Chapter Banners Alignment Align the organization name flush left at a distance from the vertical rule (and upper frame) equal to the height of the lower case i in the Internet Society Wordmark. Typesetting Name: Color: 13/13pt Helvetica Bold upper and lower case Organization name - black Frame and logo - Internet Society Blue The space allotted for the organization name can accommodate up to four lines of text. Internet Society Chapter Banners are used by Internet Society chapters, special interest groups, and auxiliary organizations to reinforce their visibility and recognition as part of the Internet Society. Internet Society Chapter Banners are approved for both web and print applications. All Internet Society Logo Color Usage guidelines apply to Internet Society Chapter Banners. See the guidelines for Basic Elements of the Internet Society Logo. Except for resizing the entire banner or inserting the organization name in the specified font, no alteration to an Internet Society Chapter Banner is authorized. Do not redraw the elements or substitute other fonts into an Internet Society Chapter Banner. As an alternative to Internet Society Chapter Banners, Internet Society chapters, special interest groups, and auxiliary organizations may use an Internet Society Digital esignature and Endorsement. See Internet Society esignature and Endorsement Specifications. Samples
Typography Primary Internet Society Font Helvetica Light Helvetica Light Italic Helvetica Helvetica Italic Helvetica Bold Helvetica Bold Italic Helvetica Black Helvetica Black Italic The Helvetica family of fonts has been selected as the primary typeface for the Internet Society, because of its compatibility with the Internet Society s Wordmark. The logo uses an adaptation of Helvetica Black. Helvetica is a modern sans serif typeface which is highly legible. Within the Helvetica family, there is a wide range of weights that can be used. See type samples to the left. Helvetica Condensed and Helvetica Compressed Condensed and compressed versions of Helvetica are not compatible in appearance with the Internet Society Wordmark or the rest of the Helvetica family of fonts, so they should be avoided. The one exception to this usage guideline is when content must appear for legal compliance reasons (for instance, a legal disclaimer or notice), and has an extremely limited space available to it. To comply with minimum point size regulations, Helvetica Condensed or Helvetica Compressed or their Arial equivalent may be used. Substituting Arial for Helvetica Effectively, Arial and Helvetica are identical. On IBM (PC) desktop systems that do not have Helvetica available, the Arial family of fonts can be substituted for Helvetica.
Internet Society Logo Reproduction Sheet Logo Sheet Internet Society Logos provided on the logo sheet are ready to clip and use. For best reproduction, reduce larger artwork rather than enlarging smaller artwork. Sample not for reproduction.
File Formats on the Internet Society Identity Materials CD Selecting the Right Format The variety of file formats on the Internet Society Identity Materials CD is intended to meet the demands of a wide range of applications.
