4 What is the Composer 2? Composer 2 is our online schedule and playlist management tool. Provides a way for sta8ons to share their program content with their listeners online. Toolset for sta8on staff to create, edit, and manage their program schedule(s) Toolset for as well as manually create or upload program playlists. Composer 2 widgets can be embedded into any page of a sta8on s website Widgets automa8cally embedded into specific pages in the Core Publisher Content Management System 4

13 What is a Program in Composer 2? Each radio show that you air at your sta8on will be created as a Program in Composer 2. Even your one- day or special/temporary programs will be created as new Programs. Click on the Programs link in your yellow admin bar to see a list of all of the programs that have been created in your Calendar. 13

14 EXERCISE Create a New Program in Composer 2 If you were using Composer Basic/Composer Pro, your program schedule may have been imported into Composer 2. However, you will need to create new Programs to ensure that your schedule reflects your current programming. Let s create a new Program.

15 Edi/ng a Program There are two ways to edit a program in Composer 2: 1) Click on Programs in your top yellow admin bar and click on the 8tle of the program that you want to edit. 2) Click on the 8tle of the program that you want to edit in your Calendar. Once you ve made your changes, click on the green Save bu[on to save your changes. 15

16 Removing/Dele/ng a Program If a program that you are airing ends, you will want to remove it from your Calendar. To do so, edit the program and give it an End Date that reflects the last day that the program will air at your sta8on. 16

17 Removing/Dele/ng a Program If you ever need to delete a program, we recommend giving it an End Date, as is no func8onality to delete a program from the schedule. You cannot delete a program to ensure that all playlists will be 8ed to a program. However, if ever need to delete a program from your schedule, please contact NPR Digital Services Support for assistance. 17

18 Managing Conflicts in Your Schedule A conflict lets you know that two or more programs are overlapping or were scheduled for the same 8me. Conflicts are normally created in two ways: 1) A user creates a new program to replace another older program but does not give an end date to the older program that is ending. 2) A user creates a new temporary program that will only air a few 8mes (like an elec8on special, pledge drive programming or holiday special). Conflicts are indicated in the Calendar by a blue exclama8on point icon in the Composer 2 Admin. 18

19 Module Two: Recap Workflow Notes: Create a new Program in Composer 2 for each program that you air at your sta8on. One- day or temporary special programming should also be created as a new program. Programs cannot be deleted from your Calendar, but you can give a program an end date to remove it. Conflicts represent when two programs have been scheduled for the same air8me and should be cleaned up unless they are created on purpose. 19

22 Crea/ng a Composer 2 User Click on Se3ngs in the top admin bar and select Users to see a list of all of the users that have access to your Composer 2 account. Click on the New User bu[on to create a new user. 22

23 EXERCISE Create a Composer 2 User You will be responsible for crea/ng users for all of your program staff and hosts who will need to be able to add playlist and program informa/on into Composer 2. Let s create a new user for one of your hosts.

25 Module Three: Recap Workflow Notes: Each person at your sta8on who will need access to Composer 2 will need their own individual user. You will probably have more Host- level users than Sta8on Admin- level users. Assign your Host- level users to the specific programs that they add playlists to to ensure that they are not able to mistakenly edit or overwrite playlists for other programs. 25

27 What is a Playlist in Composer 2? We recommend crea8ng a playlist for each program episode that includes songs. Your playlists will be displayed in your Composer 2 widgets, as well as your Core Publisher Program Pages (where applicable). There are two ways to get to the Add Playlist page to create a new playlist: 1. Hover over the episode that you want to want to create a playlist for on the Calendar page and click on Edit Episode to go to the Episode Details page. 2. Click on Episodes in your yellow admin bar and select the episode that you want to create a playlist for to go to the Episode Details page. 27

28 EXERCISE Manually Create a Playlist We recommend crea/ng a playlist for each program episode that includes songs. Let s manually create a playlist for an episode of one of your programs.

29 Impor/ng a Playlist into Composer 2 You can import your playlist for an episode as either a.csv or.txt file. If you use a tool like Spinitron or MusicMaster, you can export your playlists in a format that can be imported into Composer 2. 29

31 Edi/ng or Dele/ng a Playlist To edit a playlist, navigate back to the Episode Details page for the playlist that you want to edit and make your changes. To delete a playlist, click on the Clear Playlist op8on on the Episode Details page. 31

32 Expor/ng Playlist Data from Composer 2 You can export your playlists for a specified date range for repor8ng purposes. 32

33 Module Four: Recap Workflow Notes: Some users prefer to add their playlists live while the program is airing, while others prefer to add their songs either before or aver the program airs. If you add the playlist for a program before it airs, the songs will not be available in your widgets/on your site un8l the air8me that you noted. Pulling in the song from either the itunes or Arkiv playlist is the only way to pull in the song s album art. Make sure to use the import template (and don t make any changes to the fields and columns) to ensure that your playlist imports work. 33

36 Composer 2 à Non- Core Publisher If you are not using Core Publisher, you can use Composer 2 s widgets to add your programming data to your site. Click on Widgets in your top grey admin bar and select which widgets you want to incorporate into your site layout: 1) Now Playing 2) Daily Schedule 3) Weekly Schedule 4) Song List 36
