I want to use an "Assistant Application" (Mercalli 2) I create a new project and import a clip with no audio, since the surely needed re-import with audio is not possible (at this time). I create an Edit I set the Application Assistant, as described in the manual on page 138th Exe: Mercalli.exe Name: Mercalli 2 Output directory: G: Assistant Applications Question: Is that the directory where the application should then print the modified file? 1 / 7

2 In (00:01:00.00) and Outpoint (00:02:00.00) is set. Effect Mercalli 2 "call, Region Section Marked"> Add "Change output directory"... Question: Why? This was done even during setup of the effect? No? Furthermore, there is always an "old" input (LW can not remember the entry?) Why is here not the already given output directory registered? "In the Project File text box, define a project or workspace you want to associate with this effect."??? Which Project? / workspace? The effect is still on the clip in the project work that I want? No? These data are available yet! No? So why enter again? Above all, WHAT type (project file? Original clip? By importing copyed? By importing created link? By "flatten sources" maybe created clip?) "To generate new pieces of material exactly the same length as the effect, click Flatten Sources." So I have the biggest problem. After I click on it, please where's the clip created? Would here be anything created? I can find nothing... And what is that good? How does it work if I want to occupy only a portion of the clip with the effect? The use of In and Outpunkt has no effect on the "sources list"-to-find file (or if not I've done completely wrong)? And, the "source flatten" it by perhaps created File not find. 2 / 7

3 That the re-import then isnt working is an other story... Can you help me? I readed the manual 10 or 20 times and tried, and tried, but can not realy understand the workflow... Maybe im a fool...? No, i can not ignore it. The app needs to declare, what have to do and where the files to deal with reside. Therefore again (sorry if im annoying]: These data are available yet! No? So why enter again? This datas should given to the app over LW, i think... Or the manual has to declare it a little bit more exact (for dummys how me ). I still dont know the meaning from "workspace", "project" and were i can find the right datas (without trying many times). In my case, i linked to the "original clip". Sorry, i dont understand again... When has the effect to be "flattened". What is that doing? Cut back in my edit? After or before to be changed in the app? 6 If i want to change only a piece of my clip ( e.g from 00:01:00.00 to 00:02:00.0), how my App is knowing what is to do? She gets still only the whole clip if i give the reference in the projectfile text box to the original clip, and i dont have an other (maybe my fault, therefore my question referring to "project/workspace") I think "flatten" should give the piece of the clip to the app, that should be changed? No? But, how/where can the app (or i) find this "piece"? I can find in the source list this "pieces" after "flatten" the clip, but that referes still only to the whole original clip! I can never find the rendered (flattened) pieces to give them to my app!? What have i to give to my app as an input? And where can i find that, if it is really needed to do it for myself and LW isnt be able to do it for me? Thanks again for a explanation... Posted by Hammerhead - 04 Feb :00 Here's an example : 1. I have my edit and a region where I'd like to use some output from my assistant application 2. To make things easy once I've launched my assistant app, I can flatten my sources (which will render any effects and make/insert a new clip which is the same length as the effect : 6 / 7

7 3. Now I can 'list sources' to so that when I launch my assistant app, it will know which source media to use. 4. After authoring my new media inside my assistant app, I come back into Lightworks, right-click my assisant app effect and choose 'replace with import' and then choose the file rendered by the external app, leaving me with : Does that help? Posted by Besser - 04 Feb :13 No, sorry... I will waite, as far as LW can reimport my Appfile (not possible at the moment) and then try and see what happens...
