1 Alberta One-Call Online Request Process Requesting routine locates online is a convenient way for excavators to submit their request at their convenience. Ticket confirmations are sent via once processed. If your locate is an Emergency or Priority, you must call Alberta One-Call directly at and speak with an Alberta One-Call Damage Prevention Associate. Here are instructions to help you with submitting your requests online. Please call Alberta One-Call directly if you require additional guidance. Go to: Click the Submit A Locate Request button in the centre of the page. Accept Disclaimer After reading the Alberta One-Call disclaimer, click the I have read and accept the above disclaimer button to proceed. P a g e 1
2 Select Dig Location and Client Type After accepting the disclaimer a new window will open. Ensure you are selecting the appropriate request type. 1) First select City or Rural as required for your dig location. If this information is incorrect it will create errors later on. 2) Then select either Homeowner or Contractor. If you are a business requesting a locate please select Contractor. If you are not a business or organization, select Homeowner. Client information Fill in ALL required information as indicated with the red asterisk (*). If you do not have an ID, input the required information. A user ID and password is not required to complete a locate request. Ticket Information will only be discussed with those indicated in the Contact and Alternate Contact fields. If you are a contractor that has requested Alberta One-Call locates in the past, you may have a Contractor ID. If so input your Used ID and password and Validate to have your personal information auto populate. P a g e 2
3 City Selection The key to the online locate request process is to ensure all drop down boxes are used. Type in the City and click the search button. If your city doesn t automatically appear, select the city required from the drop down box on the right. Insert and Select Street Next, type in the House # if required, and Street Name. If digging at an intersection, type in the road the work will be starting at, and if it continues to a second intersection, type that roadway name as well. Rural Selection When locates are required in rural areas, a legal land description is required. You will be required to input the quarter, section, township, range and meridian for all locates. Requests will not go through successfully without this information. Note: Please be aware that although you can submit up to 10 legal land descriptions per request, for them all to be included on the same ticket, they must all be adjacent or continuous. As well, all LLDs that are non-continuous will require separate driving directions. P a g e 3
4 Dig Information All tickets are required to have their property type identified. Please check all boxes that apply to your location information. Note: on Rural requests, you must still select Private or Public property type even if you have selected Farmland). Reminder: If your locate is an Emergency or Priority, you must call Alberta One-Call directly at and speak with an Alberta One-Call Damage Prevention Associate. Preferred Locate Date Please select the preferred date you would like the locator to be on site to complete their markings, and the estimated amount of time required for them to mark the site. Note: The locators require a minimum of two (2) full working days notice before a locate is performed, and the cutover is at 12 noon every work day. For example, if a locate is sent on Monday at 9 AM, the estimated locate date will be Wednesday; however, if sent on Monday at 2 PM, the estimated locate date will be Thursday. As well, requested dates may only be placed up to 14 days in advance from the day of submission. Reminder: This field will always default to the next available date. Work Type Either use the pull-down menu to select a pre-defined type of work, or enter your own work type in the adjacent field. Reminder: Generic terms such as Digging, Excavation and Holes will not be accepted. P a g e 4
5 Additional Information The Additional Information box should include information regarding the area of excavation, the maximum depth, dogs, locked gates, hazards that may block a locator from working, or any other important information pertaining to the dig location. Note: If your request includes Public Property, you must explicitly explain where, in which direction, and how far you will be working on this property. Failing to properly include this information may cause a delay in processing your request, or the failure to contact critical utilities. Click Next section unless you would like to attach a sketch or map (see next step). Attach a Map/Sketch It is possible to attach a PDF, JPG, PNG or BMP image file (5 MB maximum) of a map or drawing representing your dig location, as well as an XLS (Excel) file. Check the Attach or create an optional sketch? button, then the Next section button. P a g e 5
6 Upload Map/Sketch If the Attach or create an optional sketch? check box is selected, the below screen will populate. Click Choose File to select a file from your PC, and then click Upload to attach it to the request. Click Next Section when complete. Create a Map/Sketch This mini application allows you to draw the work area out. You may need to scroll down to see this feature. Select Country or Residential and Click Next Section to continue. Using the tool, sketch out your property and dig area as well as possible, and click Finish to complete your sketch. Review All Information Finally, review all the ticket information before sending. When data is confirmed, click Send Request. If you made a mistake, click Correct your information or Modify the file. P a g e 6
7 You will receive a WEB confirmation number that should be printed or kept for your records. When the ticket is processed by a Damage Prevention Associate, you will receive confirmation Alberta One-Call number(s) at the address provided. REMEMBER: Alberta One-Call members require a minimum of two full working days notice prior to routine locates. Locate markings are valid up to 14 DAYS (non-business) after being placed. There may be companies who have underground facilities in your work area that do not subscribe to Alberta One-Call. You are responsible to notify these parties of your proposed excavation, and also to locate or hire someone to locate any landowner owned (private) facilities in your work area.
